    the areas.

These are the descriptions of the places the swan boat will be traveling through for your romantic Tunnel of Love ride.

      AREA ONE
Once you step into the swan boat you immediately realize that one) those are totally real feather and two) that somehow you have traveled down the water to what looks like a romantic garden area.

Soft music plays, you hear the laughter of couples, and there is a table and chairs with a pair sitting across from each other and leaning forward to press their foreheads together and whisper sweet nothings to one another. The scene plays out and the paused swan boat moves forward once more.

      AREA TWO
As you come around the bend clouds blow in, hiding the ground and water. Building tops are visible, the moon high in the sky (does it have a face? is it singing?) as a pair dances across the clouds without a care in the world, their eyes only on each other. They dance and eventually have a romantic moment on top of a giant elephant.

        It’s a little weird.

      AREA THREE
Leaving the pair of dancers behind, the sound of swords clashing and fighting fills the air. Not all the parts of the ride are apparently for the disgustingly romantic sort and instead, it’s a battle as two people fight back to back, prepared to do whatever it takes to keep the other safe and see them live through the day.

A large beast appears after they’ve knocked down their foes and, with a battle cry, they charge an face it together. The scene fades as the boat is once more pulled forward on its watery path.

      AREA FOUR
The lighting dims, the flicker of a fireplace the only thing that illuminates the area. There’s a couple sitting close to one another on a stuffed unicorn. The boat does not linger long in this area, instead only giving you a glimpse as things appear to be getting heated quite quickly.

      AREA FIVE
As the ride comes to the last area, the path of the boat becomes unclear- water is everywhere. There are small craggy rocks in the water, flowering vines hanging from above, and the drip of what sounds like a deep cave.

Yet that feeling ends as one by one, paper lanterns start floating by and then a few float down from above landing in the water and continuing down the path the boat came from. In the distance you think you see another boat and another pair but look away as you realize they’re just about to kiss.

    ambiance.

When you roll your 1D6, these are the environmental things that happen to add ambiance to your ride.

1 - a light drizzle falls from above (?!), the sound of thunder cracking drowning out conversation, and something moves among the area that you cannot quiet see.
2 - flower petals fall from above, showering you in a sweet smell that relaxes you (unless you’ve got an allergy and then it’s little bits of glitter).
3 - something stalks the area you are in, glowing eyes watching you. you cannot see it, not clearly and it makes your eyes water, but you hear the growls and swear you hear it whisper a name, your name.
4 - stepping forward from the scene (out of nowhere), the something that runs the ticket booth appears and hands over a romantic present (your choice of present to give to your partner or keep for yourself!)
5 - an eerie voice echoes through the ride. it sounds barely human and everything in the area seems to darken ominously.
6 - a slightly chill breeze blows through, making you want to press close to one another (or hug yourself).

    outcomes.

When your ride comes to end, either due to malfunction or because it's simply come to an end, this is what happens.

        a perfectly romantic ride.
tab If all goes well, the swan boat ride comes out the other side of the Tunnel of Love and it’s exactly where you started. There’s no one there now, the ticket booth saying CLOSED, but as you go by you notice that your phone buzzes. Somehow there’s photos of you on instagram on the ride and there’s several very nicely done, flattering pictures of you (and whomever you went with) looking super adorable (together).

        a perfectly malfunctioning ride.
tab If things do not go well and the ride malfunctions … The swan boat creaks and protests, the sounds of gears grinding as you hear rushing water. Looking over the side you realize that a whirlpool (what the hell?!) is forming right underneath the swan boat and there’s no way to get away from it, some force trapping you in the boat. The boat, along with you, are sucked down into the whirlpool …

Only to blink your eyes and realize you are outside once more. Standing in cold water of a small picturesque pond that was nearby. A overly done archway is above you (it’s supposed to be romantic) and flowers and vines hang down from above all over again. You hear the snap of a camera but see nothing. Yet as you step out of the pond, to dry off and make sure you’re not covered in flowers, you feel something in your pocket. You reach in and discover that there’s a photo-booth style set of pictures of you (and whomever you went with) that have been done up with that super kawaii phone app. There’s also a bag of candy hearts in your other pocket. For once they taste amazing.

Preacher was exceptionally nosy, so she knew when a 'tunnel of love' mysteriously popped up just in time for the holiday. For her, however, the real holiday was in the days following the fourteenth - discounted chocolate days. She didn't indulge very often, but sometimes chocolate when a long way.

So this nosiness had her winding her way to go stare at the tunnel and wonder what the ******** all it was about. Like, it was free. It was probably a ********' trap. Luckily for Preacher, she found just the right person to get dragged into a trap with.

"That looks highly uncomfortable, 'Lexis." She leaned against the concrete post, slanting a look up at them.

"Don't call me that," Alexis huffed, their voice mildly irritated; their hair was separated into dual braids, ribbon twined through them (Nasir's handiwork, doubtless), but it clashed with their dark jeans and mussed-up red sneakers, and their hoodie was dark grey and starting to be threadbare in the way that spoke of years of wear, probably. It was hardly a romantic outfit, but Alexis was hardly a romantic - so it all worked out.

(There might have been something odd about their eyes, but it was hard to tell, from this angle -- maybe it was heavy eyeliner. But that seemed unlikely. Or maybe it was bruising patterning their eyelids - more likely, but still - it didn't match up. It didn't fit.)

"'m comfy. Whaddya want?"

Likewise, Preacher was not dressed for any sort of romantic interlude. She was currently being swallowed up by a jacket, a hoodie, and an over-sized sweater. "Three syllables is a long name, y'know." She looked up at them again, considering.

"There's a free thing in town, but ya gotta do it with someone. Come w'me. I wanna see how nasty it gets." It was, in fact, extremely nearby as well, so that was a double plus in her book.

"Compared to what, two?" Alexis fired down incredulously; it was an ambivalent sort of anger, hackles up all for show, and there was nothing to fear about it except their aura of ambient danger. "Fine, though, but you gotta get me fries or some s**t after. 'm easily bribed."

Besides, they needed something to do; their legs were getting stiff from the perch, and they made their way down the concrete with a huff of breath, giving Preacher a once-over when they finally stood before her. (Their eyes were strange-dark, this close up, it was so clear: all dark on the rim, abyssal black, with pale pupils just on the edge of white.)

"Yeah, yeah, I'll buy ya the good curly fries n' s**t." She started to head off, the nglanced back. And did a double-take. Preacher knew it; something was weird.

"Who tha ******** did ya kill to get those eyes?"

Alexis pulled back with a sharp exhale - so very suddenly their heart was racing in their chest, ready to run, and they didn't want to at all - it was stupid, they thought, to react so strongly to just a few words. Just a few words.

(They had the feeling they'd be having that reaction for weeks, at least. It wasn't something they could just try and get over so quickly like the other times.)

It was a few seconds before they replied, snappish, a little uncomfortable: "Non'ya business, that's who. You want me to do something stupid with you or what? It's not a free country, kid."

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, c'mon. And it is a free country, less they changed more s**t than I thought during that sigil bullshit." Preacher almost reached out to grab their arm, then hesitated. Touching seemed weirder than normal. Instead, she flicked her thick braid over her shoulder and shot them a glance.

"You'll love it. Follow me." Alexis would probably not love it.

"Freedom of speech don't mean I gotta listen," Alexis snorted, their voice hitting low and gritty registers, rubbing their chalky hands on their jeans in smears of white dust. For however unreasonable they might have been, they recognized the need for climbing chalk - but that wasn't the point at all.

"I'm holdin' you to that food promise." They followed her a little behind and to the left, never to the right.

"O' course, o' course." Preacher never went back on a promise. She glanced back at Alexis. Then, they arrived and she spread her arms.

"Tada," Preacher said, voice monotone. "Let's go get a ********' boat."

Alexis raised one eyebrow, very pointedly, and moved to get into the boat - they flicked the air and a bead of water shot up and plinked off of Preacher's face, getting her cheek a little wet. Their hands were a little enamored with the feathers, to tell the truth -- they felt nice.

"Shouldn't we date before we get married," they said, equally monotone back to her. "Who's gonna be our best man, Zac? Mercer?" Alexis' voice was level, but their dark eyes were impish with mischief.

"Stop makin' me wet. N' definitely Mercer. Y'know Zac would be our third anyhow." She rolled her eyes. Music wafted through the air and the scene of a couple on a date appeared. Gross. If this was supposed to be romantic, it wasn't hitting the right buttons for her. She was in the boat wtih Alexis, too, so romance wasn't really on her mind. In fact, she couldn't think of anyone she'd take out on a date.

"These boats are ********' weird. N' did ya want me to whisper sweet nothin's in ya ear just like them? I can do that." The boat lurched, a chill wind blew, and she leaned close to Alexis. "Nothin', nothin'," Preacher whispered, then blew into Alexis' ear.

Alexis' face scrunched up into an expression of total disgust - partially from the couple, partially from Preacher's words. "Why've you gotta make this gross. I can be gross on my own time. N' none of us are marryin' Zac, he's gonna go date a Disney prince, probably."

When she blew in their ear, they leaned over and licked her face. It was absolutely not sexy at all and...kind of gross, actually.

"Are you implyin' I'm not a ********' Disney prince? How ********' d-" Then she shrieked as Alexis licked her. She shoved them back, then swiped furiously at her cheek.

"You prob'ly have rabies! I don't need ya cooties!" But Preacher was laughing because it was all terribly ridiculous. Abruptly, she grabbed their chin and lick Alexis right back. Licks begat licks.

"I don't turn into an animal," Alexis protested, dipping their hand over the side of the boat and calling a few more droplets of water to splash onto Preacher's face and hands - "wine and dine me first, lady!" They were leaning back far enough after shoving her back, away from them, that they would have fallen over the side if their legs hadn't been appropriately braced (and if they hadn't had the confidence the water would catch them without worry).

"Come on, boat --" they rapped it with their knuckles -- "let's go mock some more romance."
