    Busthind.

Sarcel hated this place as much as she loved it. The scenery was breathtakingly dangerous; it set off a spark in her heart that made her adrenaline blaze, but it evoked a certain gentleness too. The snow here swallowed up all the sound. It felt like if she didn't proceed with utmost respect—utmost softness—that the entire mountain would collapse under her shoes. It was a beauty best appreciated from afar. Sarcel was gall enough to get up close and personal.

She didn't make the voyage that often these days. Her new status in the military kept her busy enough (between that and scouting for her new projects), and even then she made it a point to keep her downtime scarce. Downtime gave her time to think. Downtime gave her time to consider. She was a strong, well oiled machine, but the second she stopped she crashed. It was better to keep moving.

Some might argue that she'd crash without a moment of respite too, but she considered that crash far easier to pick up after.

Needless to say, she miraculously ran out of things to do back in NHC, and feeling pensive she found her way out here. The snowfall was gentle and light, but the frost that had already fallen was slick under her boots. Today wouldn't be the day that she made it to the top (A dream of hers, one she intended to see through), but today was just good enough for a winter hike.

For a troll that avoided self reflection, she felt strangely at peace with it among the isolation of the cliff side. Her bloodcolor wasn't immediately visible on her winter gear, but her scarf was checker boarded with blue that seemed to blend in with the black. Her symbol was tucked under her jacket, bold on her shirt if not for the cover up.

She exhaled, smiled softly at how her breath looked in the chilly mountain air, and kept crunching forward.

With the sun finally descended, Malice set off on her usual evening run. She hadn't been out too long, but she could assume Dragondad flew overhead within the clouds surrounding the peaks of Busthind. But that was irrelevant. She could handle herself. With the sharp mountain hair filling her lungs, Malice continued up her usual path. Directly in her line of sight, another troll appeared to be also be taking this particular trail. She panted out an exasperated sigh.

"Out of my way!" Malice yelled, contrasting the serene quiet of the mountain.Pedestrians blocking her path disrupted her training. After maneuvering herself around the troll and kicking some snow in their direction, Malice shot them a scowl from over her shoulder. It had only been a few seconds before a lightbulb clicked on. "Huh?!" Slowing her pace slightly, she looked behind herself once again to get a better look at their face. Did she know them...? Malice attempted to skid to a halt, but caught a patch of ice and was sent sliding near the edge of a cliff. "Sh-s**t-!"

Malice flew over the ledge, disappearing from visual sight. As if given mercy from Alternia's elements, the cliff only descended a few yards, with a large mound of snow catching the girl's falling body. Below was the shape of a child indented in the snow, lost beneath.

Sarcel stopped at the sound of a shrill, vaguely familiar voice. Suddenly a tiny... troll came barreling past her, seemingly unattended, and very angry. She raised her eyebrow, but her expression immediately winced when the blueblood slid forward and off the side of the cliff. She sort of stood there in a dumbfounded sort of way, wondering if she had just watched a child die on accident.

That would be unfortunate and mildly unpleasant.

Sarcel peered over the edge of the cliff with concern etched onto her features, blue fringed bangs falling out in front of her face (stupid short hair wasn't short enough). All that was left was a comic indent in the snow bank below.

"Hello?" She cupped one hand around her mouth as she called down to the fallen child. The fall didn't look as terrible as it could have been, but... She shook her head and began to slowly descend the cliff face.

...except a rock gave way under her hand and she slipped too, landing ungracefully in a pile of snow next to Malice. It wasn't as deep, but she didn't have as far to fall. "For <********> sake..." She swore on occasion, but now she felt just as stupid as the child probably did. If they were still alive anyway. She sat up and shook the snow out of her hair before peering over to the hole adjacent to her.

In the hole, Malice laid still. It was Cincil. The troll was Cincil. She had heard Cincil call out to her, but she did not respond. Despite hearing and feeling the fall beside her, Malice preoccupied herself with attempting not to scream from a barrage of emotions including: Shame. Embarrassment. Pain. Fury. On top of its ******** cold.

The child's face turned a deep shade of blue as her cheeks puffed up, nostrils flared, and lips clamped down as her voice erupting from her throat. Blue watery tears welled at the corners of her eyes. Clearly, Malice was struggling. The pain engulfed her tiny body, accompanied by the blistering cold walls of snow and ice surrounding her. She inhaled deeply through her nostrils and the tightness from her mouth lessened.

      "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"

Coming from quite a distance, a similar, yet much more menacing screech came from the clouds above.

Well, if Sarcel wasn't hurt from the fall, now her ear drums were decidedly hurting from the guttural screech that emanated from the hole. Seriously, what was in the tap water these nights? Things that small shouldn't be capable of making sounds that loud, it just didn't make sense. Now, the screech from the clouds was a little more worrisome, and Sarcel's eyes were fixated on the overcast. Nothing descended from them. An echo maybe? Or...

She rubbed the side of her head.

"Look, uh," She peered into the hole again, "If you can scream that loud then you're clearly going to live. C'mon—" She reached in, grabbed a fistful of whatever fabric she could, and yanked up.

Sarcel was not necessarily an epitome of tact.

After being yanked up, Malice bit her lips to prevent herself from shrieking again. She scowled, refusing to look at Sarcel and shrugged her off once she could get back on her own two feet, however not without a slip or two here. Damn this ice.

"What are you doing up here?" She suddenly asked, disregarding the other girl's utter rudeness with her own. The accusing tone had been an accident.

Before Sarcel could get a word in, another terrifying screech echoed from the sky above. Malice's gaze turned upward and, unusually, flickered between fear and annoyance. Straightaway, the younger blueblood huffed a resentful growl and began to move towards what appeared to be a small grotto, mumbling, "I don't have time for his bullshit right now."

"What?" Sarcel made a face, her lips pursed and her eyelids narrowing slightly, "What do you mean, what am I doing here. I'm--

Sarcel jumped again at the louder, booming screech. Alright, what the ******** was that? She looked up when Malice did, but then she was stomping off. Sarcel supposed she should have let the kid go, but she was confused. And curious. But mostly perplexed as all hell.

"Whose bullshit? Wait--" She followed after Malice. "Where are you going?" What if she slipped and fell somewhere else? "What's making that shriek? Is it your lusus?" She hoped it was, maybe she could leave then.
