This subforum is to be used for all in-character RP that takes place in High Reaches Weyr. If you are planning an open RP all we ask is you make sure people know where the thread is taking place, to avoid confusion. If an RP makes it way from the Weyr to another Hold or Hall, that's fine, but if it continues to go on at length we do as you make a new thread in the appropriate Hold & Hall subforum.

Please use the appropriate Subject Heading when setting up an RP in the suboforum.

[PRP] = Private RP i.e. [PRP] A Sunny Day (D'mon & Valas)
[ORP] = Open RP i.e. [ORP] Let's Dance! (Everyone!)
[SRP] = Solo RP i.e. [SRP] Foggy Heart (C'nat)

Private RPs are meant for only a select group of writers and their characters.
Open RPs mean anyone is welcome to jump in and play!
Solo RPs are written up only by the writer about their characters.

Zheria and D'mon, on the surface, are your stereotypical power-couple. They have lead High Reaches Weyr for the past seven Turns, and both were firm believers in the return of Thread. They are considered weyrmates, but it's quite a loose definition. Their dragons might share a weyrledge together, but D'mon has fathered many b*****d children within High Reaches, and Zheria has been known to warm many of her admirers beds.

While they both have their flaws, they rule with a bit of an iron fist. High Reaches is their Weyr, and it shall be run accordingly. Getting in their good graces is a good way to rise up in rank, or at least find oneself with more comforts. Those with metallic dragon's might find themselves offered a Wing, or suddenly find their ideas and thoughts and voices heard. For chromatic riders, one might find themselves or their dragons better amenities, less rigorous sweeps, or more free time.

Those who are defiant or bring trouble to the Weyr will find life more difficult. Both are stubborn and dead-set in their ways; and their Second's have been trained accordingly. Either you fit into High Reaches Weyr or you don't; and those who don't find the Weyr to be a chilly place, indeed.

Zheria is a very dominant and aggressive woman. She gets what she wants, regardless of the price. She is not just a gold rider but the Weyrwoman of High Reaches, and anyone who doesn't treat her with the respect she deserves will feel her wrath. While she is devoted to those within her Weyr, she believes in the old traditions. Goldriders are the top of the top, with every other color well beneath them. Her fellow gold riders who devote themselves to High Reaches fall in a pecking order beneath her based on their usefulness and her interest. Begin to cause trouble and you might find yourself suddenly turned out or assigned elsewhere.

Furthermore, Zheria likes attention, and power. She is an attractive woman, and often entertains men that she finds worth her attention. Why shouldn't she deserve the best of the best? She is Weyrwoman, and no man had better forget it. Vain as she might be, Zheria is well aware with the happenings with her Weyr. She is crafty and will do anything to ensure that things run her way. With the return of Thread, she doesn't hesitate to remind Pern that they were prepared. They were the ones who had kept up training to defeat Thread. They were the ones who suffered the least amount of casualties, and had been prepared when the silver Threads inevitably returned. Benden might have been cream-of-the-crop during the 9th Pass -- but not these days. High Reaches is the Weyr to follow, as far as Zheria is concerned.

D'mon is terribly good-looking, charming, and very cut-throat. While this might be Zheria's Weyr, and he does humor her in thinking that, he is no blind follower or admirer. He is ruthless against Threadfall, and believes without a doubt that this is the natural order. He is fiercely loyal to those within High Reaches, but will not hesitate to turn out those who openly dissent against the way they operate. He does not look down upon the blue- and green-riders of his Weyr, but he does believe that they Impressed to such a color for good reason. They are the followers and fighters, while the larger dragons are the leaders and thinkers.

There is a natural order in High Reaches, a strict hierarchy, and those who do not follow it are sent elsewhere. The Weyr indoctrinates those into the fold from an early age, and those who leave are considered traitors. Faranth forbid a traitor return for any length of stay, for their reception would likely be icy, indeed.

D'mon doesn't take crap from anyone. It is his way -- and Zheria's -- or the highway. He will listen to the other ranked men and women, and might keep their council in mind, but ultimately will do what he thinks must be done. While his conservative ideals are strict, he truly believes that his Weyr is most fit to protect Pern. He finds Western Weyr backwards, and can't imagine the confusion that its riders must have when a Wingleader can't even serve to fight the full length of Threadfall, much less the Weyrleader.

Life in High Reaches cuts out the confusion. Everyone knows their place, and he aspires to have his Weyr run like a well-oiled machine. It is effective and militant, but the emotional costs --particularly for those low on the chain -- can be trying.

D'mon is suspicious of outsiders, and has no problem being the bad-guy if that's what it takes to keep his riders and Weyr safe. He well unerstands that he doesn't have to be the most well-liked Weyrleader, but the most efficient and competent at his job. He expects his assigned Wingleaders to do their jobs and do them well. . . and will not hesitate to switch out his leadership if they fail to meet his expectations.

Description: High Reaches Weyr is known for it's cold temperature and frigid winters; but the same can be said about its riders and neighboring Holds. After the end of Thread, these obstinate Northerner's continued to predicate that the great enemy would return. They are very old guard in fashion -- they tend to be suspicious of outsiders and transfers from other Weyrs or Holds, and can almost be considered militant in their training.

They are serious, no-nonsense, and have perhaps become bitter at being laughed at for their beliefs. For those who prove their belief in the cause, those of High Reaches are fiercely loyal, and will defend their own with tooth and claw. High Reaches Weyr wouldn't hesitate to turn dragon-against-dragon if they thought it were necessary. While outsiders and strangers might find themselves in a bit of distant company, once brought into the fold, those of High Reaches are good, hardy riders and weyrfolk.

They do believe that dragon's know best, and tend to favor and glorify the metallic riders of their Weyr. Perhaps that's why gold and bronze riders are so plentiful within the Weyr's walls -- to automatically have power, a voice, and to be revered by the weyrfolk and neighboring Holds and Crafthalls is a difficult thing to resist. Such praise and adoration is only heightened should the metallic riders be offered actual rank -- such as Wingleader, or Wingleader Second.

Chromatic dragons and their riders aren't outwardly disrespected by the weyrfolk, but a green rider's of either gender will likely struggle more than their esteemed peers, and women riding blues is considered backwards and peculiar. As their dragons are so common, they are thought of as nothing more than Threadfodder -- greatly needed, but nothing more than a foot soldier. If a man can't impress better than a green, clearly they weren't meant for much. It is common for weyrlings to demean Candidates when eggs are hardening on the Sands by telling them they won't Impress or might only manage to walk away with a green at best, as if there's something wrong with being picked at all!

Often this is the chain of respect/celebrity:

Sr. Weyrwomen
Weyrleader
Weyrwomen Second
Weyrleader Second
Jr. Weyrwomen
Bronze Wingleaders
Bronze Wingleader Seconds
Brown Wingleaders (rare)
Brown Wingleader Seconds

Male Brownriders
Female Brownriders (very rare)
Male Blueriders
Female Blueriders (rare)
Female Greenriders
Male Greenriders
Whiteriders (very rare)
Weyrlings (with their own hierarchy based on dragon color, similar to the one above)
Weyrfolk // Esteemed (high ranking) Guests
Visitors // (average or low-ranking) Guests
Drudges
Candidates

Notes of Interest: High Reaches Weyr is one of the most conservative and traditional Weyrs. The men and women who sabotaged AIVAS's plan originated from High Reaches Weyr and the neihboring Holds. The Weyr called for Thread's return for the past thousand turns, and had been scoffed at and dubbed to be fools before its return. Now that Thread has returned, other Weyrs are looking to it to get their riders in line and to follow their lead.

They are a very militant Weyr. They tried to maintain the Weyr to its truest definition -- the dragons always know best, with metallic's proving the weight of a man (or woman's) worth. Chromatic riders are still looked upon with more favor than those without dragons, but the life of a green, blue, and even brownrider can be difficult. Some riders have drunk the spiked klah and truly believe they are somehow superior or inferior just because of who they've Impressed. On the flipside, there are others who don't easily fit in the mold, but they are often either transferred out, or turned on by their peers. Those who cause problems with the system often are stripped of their rank -- because at the end of the day, many within High Reaches are brought up by this way of thinking and don't want to change.

There are more liberal Weyrs all over Pern -- let them take root in one of them.

For some, High Reaches Weyr is a paradise. Dragonriders are respected and glorified as the heroes they truly are! Hadn't the Weyr been the only Weyr to prepare for Thread's return? Hadn't other Weyr's come to them for training? Hadn't men and women transferred to the neighboring Hold's just because they could count on being protected?

Yes, for all that Pern had believed High Reaches to be crazy, it was this Weyr that had the last laugh. When Thread did inevitably return, it caught most of Pern off guard . . . except for those who heeded High Reaches warning. While the consequences were deadly for much of Pern, High Reaches and its Hold's suffered the fewest casualties, and are considered some of the best Threadfighters and aerial tacticians thanks to their Turns of training.

Climate
High Reaches Weyr is formed near the northwest coast of the Northern Continent in the High Reaches mountains. It is formed a relatively young caldera, and is the Weyr with the highest elevation.

The winters are harsh given its northern climate. Snow falls early in High Reaches, and tends to stay late, with blizzards and snow-storms quite common during the fall, winter, and spring months. Summers are often hot and dry with ample sun, but can give way to flash-floods and severe storms. Afternoon thundershowers and lightning storms are common during the summer months.
