It appears only at night during the weeks that lead up to Halloween. At first people pay it no attention until they realize that much like how the Shore Mansion disappeared, a strange house appeared out of nowhere. Looking for it during the light of day is impossible because it’s never there until after sunset.
The house looks old and rickety, as if a strong wind could blow it over. Hay bales and pumpkins and spider webbing decorate the front of the house. Candles glint in the darkened windows and there is a sign on the front door.

To successfully make it through the HAUNTED HOUSE you must survive five rooms of unspeakable horrors!
You start out with 0/18 FEAR. With each room you roll a 1D6 die to determine what you’re facing as well as add that number to your fear total. Should you go over 18, it’s game over! When you exit to the next room you will find yourself back outside.
You don't have to play it out as if your character is actually afraid or experiencing fear. They could just as easily be very annoyed with everything that's going on. Fear is just the obvious emotion with some of the things you might run into ...
You will be making your own thread to do this in! Upon completion, or failure, please post back in this thread with a link to your RP to claim your prize. You’re more than welcome to do this with someone else but there is only one dice roller and you both share the same fear total (and you both get a prize if you both complete it).
You must RP out each room (if you’re doing it with someone else, they must also RP it out). You cannot do all dice rolls within your first post.
This mini-event will be open until October 31st @ 11:59pm PST.
It does not count as an event credit but you do get a RP point for your thread if it's over 500 words!
Both civilians and Visitors can participate!
YOU CAN TRY THIS ONCE PER CHARACTER, BUT ONLY ONE PASSING CHARACTER MAY WIN A POWER If you run with multiple characters and all of them pass, please only pick one to claim the power.
IF YOU FAIL you may try it one more time the opposite way that you did so. So if your character went in with a friend, then they must now try the haunted house alone. If they went in by themselves, they must now go in with a friend. This obviously isn't an issue for people with multiple characters (who get multiple tries) but for those with just one- we're looking out for you.

When you roll your 1D6, these are the things that are are going bump in the night and trying to scare you.
1 - A puppy and a kitten hiding under a witch’s hat. They are horribly cute and playing together. 2 - Snek. A big snek. It might want to eat you. 3 - A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth. 4 - A scarecrow. It’s eyes glow eerily and it never stops laughing. It’s mocking you. 5 - A nurse. She cries. Blood leaks from her eyes and off of her hands. 6 - Your shadow grows behind you, taking shape into something eldritch and unspeakable.
It’s a hallway. There is only one way to go and you’re not sure how it even works because you could have sworn there were windows on either side that looked into a living room. A table sits to the side, a rocking chair next to it. The lights flicker and go out. It’s when they come back on that you realize you’re not alone.
Something is behind you and a door down the way creaks open.
Lightning flashes across the sky and you can see it through the skylights that are part of the ceiling of this room. It’s a dining room with wax figures sitting at the table and forever caught in what looks like an animated discussion of politics.
You assume it’s politics. There’s a television in the corner that looks like there’s a debate playing. It’s possibly scarier than what appears next as you turn your gaze to the door that opens.
... it’s a room of ghosts, actual ghosts. Except that they’re college students lounging about on couches. One of them is doing caricatures and another pair plays beer bong. You’re absolutely not interesting to them at all. There’s another ghost in the corner by the door that opens. It seems kind of pervy.
Also it’s pointing to something behind you.
Somehow you’ve found yourself in a garden?! Fog rolls in and despite looking you cannot, for the life of you, find the fog machine. The moon is strangely full (even if it’s not the night of the full moon) and it’s reflection is clear in the water of the fountain in front of you.
A pair of skeletons sit together on a bench, their heads together as if they died while conversing with each other. You ignore them until you hear bones creak and they both point to the hidden doorway that leads out.
This time it’s something out of the corner of your eye that catches you off guard as you’re trying to slip away.
You enter a pitch black room. The floor seems to feel solid and flat under your feet but waving your arms touches nothing. There is music blasting and the chaotic sound of many people talking; the noises of a party. You don’t touch or bump anyone, though as you walk voices get closer and farther to your ears as if you are truly passing through a crowd.
The techno music comes to a head, there is a siren, a sudden light goes off revealing the exit. The invisible crowd cheers but something grabs you before you reach the door ...
Exiting the final room puts you right back outside. A chill goes up your spine as a voice whispers in your ear, “Not bad, not bad ... I’ll have to do one better next year. Hopefully you’ll enjoy your prize.”
Should you become too scared in any of the above rooms, when you go through the door to the next one you will find yourself back outside. The house is dark, the door won’t open, but there is a bag of candy and a commemorative photo of you (and friends) waiting for you upon exiting. Later on you’ll notice a note pinned to your back that reads: BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR.

For those that complete and make it all the way through the house, you will roll a 1D10 to determine which one of the following Halloween themed meta powers you receive (please do this with your link post should you have successfully made your way through the house)!
1. Sweet Tooth - While other things may be detrimental to your teeth, sweets and candies are not. You can eat as many as you want without a problem!
2. Costume Make-Up! - It doesn’t seem to matter what your skill is, when it comes to doing make-up for someone’s costume, it’s always flawless and amazing. Zombie? Perfect. Werewolf? Perfect. Cthulhu? Absolutely perfect. (That is, of course, assuming you’ve got what you need to do the make-up. You can’t make things appear out of thin air. No supplies? You’re SOL.)
3. At What I Do I Am The Best - You've mastered the jump scare. Undetectable and always in the right moment.
4. Infrared Goggles - But not really! You’re now in possession of a old fashioned pair of red-blue 3D glasses that let you see things in infrared.
5. Friendly Monsters - The creatures of other ashdown, for some inexplicable reason, like you. In varying levels. You've been warned. (This does not mean that they do not still want to eat you/kill you/maim you. It just means they will do it with love. It is for the best, they say.)
6. The Fog - You’ll never need a fog machine again. When you’re feeling particularly spooky a low rolling fog comes in and blankets the area around you.
7. What Does The Fox Say - You have the ability to perfectly mimic the sounds, howls, and cries of one type of animal. (You can pick which animal. This doesn’t mean you can understand them but they can understand you. Hopefully you weren’t rude.)
8. Reverse Vampire - You glitter in the moonlight.
9. What’s In The Box? - You now are able to guess, by shaking a package, what's inside. Of course you don't know until you shake it so don't shake too hard just in case it's delicate (or alive D : )! You also have to go ‘What’s in the box? What’s in the box?!’
10. Doing the Batty Bat - Those bug ridden summer nights aren’t such a problem anymore. Bats seem to really like you and hang around at night, cleaning the air of bugs around you. No more mosquito bites on those romantic late night dates! Plus you also dispel that ridiculous myth about them getting stuck in anyone’s hair.
For those who do not make it through, fear not! You also get a prize! You are now in the possession of a never ending trick-or-treat bag of candy. … except it’s all that odd off brand candy that not everyone likes.
You also get a commemorative photo of you (and friends) waiting for you inside the bag as well.
