Hermit in Training
Kaleb was raised a city kid, but his kind heart and quiet demeanour had no place in the loud and competitive world he was born into. Having a goal sustained him in his childhood, he wanted to be a surgeon just like his father, and that innocent desire to make the world a better place was his shield against the cynicism of life.
He was still young the first time he fainted at the sight of blood. It was a reaction that persisted as he grew older, and derailed not only the expectations and dreams his family had for him, but the future he had imagined for himself.The absence of a dream had to be filled by something, and his parents pushed him towards the next best measure of success, achieving more than his peers wherever and whenever possible. The forced competition with no direction weighed on his insecurities and left him feeling confused and lost, drifting more and more towards solitude. His departure for college was not a quest to find himself, it was a desperate retreat from a life where gentle souls could only toughen up or get crushed underfoot.
Even with the fresh start in a new place, he can't quite shake the feeling that retreating from society is the only way he'll ever survive. The surface he presents to others is friendly enough, but Kaleb always tries to duck out of human interaction long before anyone gets to know him.

When Kaleb needs a little peace and quiet for reading, study, or just an emergency introvert recharge, he seems to find it.
