Evelyn"Eve"Chamberlain Kingdra House Future Pokémon Researcher
Evelyn and Yamask waited for the next round to begin. Grabbing something to nibble on before the announcement sounded she wondered who her next battle would be against. Fortunately she didn’t have to wait long as Mona appeared on the screen again. She had a bug type with her which Evelyn found pretty interesting. It wasn’t one she recognized but it was pretty cool. Watching as the flash revealed her next match up, the dark haired girl adjusted her glasses.“Looks like, we’re facing Kirsi and her Growlithe.” She said looking to Yamask with a small smile. “Let’s give it our best okay.”She added brightly. The ghost type floated next to her and gave her yet another nod. “We really need to work on your vocal skills.”
With that Evelyn got up from her stop and headed for her area. Finding her spot on the battlefield, the Kingdra looked to the ghost type next to her. “Let’s win this for Ichiro and Tsutarja.”She suggested brightly knowing that if Ichiro had been there he wouldn’t have stood much of a chance against a fire type. Why not win it for him since he was the one who got them there.“Ya~”(Okay~) Yamask spoke causing Evelyn to smile even brighter. It wasn’t often that he spoke (except for in battle apparently) but at least he agreed. Though she knew that if Growlithe won they wouldn’t be too disappointed. They were lucky they even got this far in her honest opinion.

Kirsi was halfway out the entrance to the stadium center when she remembered something. She was out of sight of Cyril and the stadium's audience, so she quickly grabbed her pokedex and double-checked Chance's move leer. "Lowers...defense..." she mumbled under her breath. Grateful she wouldn't be second-guessing herself for another battle, Kirsi put her pokeger-dex away and walked the rest of the way out.
When she got to her spot, Evelyn was already there across from her. Kirsi was trying her hardest to get her mind off Cyril. The yamask by Evelyn's side was doing the job, making Kirsi's heart bump up and down with fear and excitement. The energy of the stadium along with a realization that she had actually won her first battle got Kirsi's head buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. Here in the right light with so many people around, Eve's ghost pokemon wasn't too scary. Kirsi let Chance out of his pokeball. "Okay Chance, you ready?" Chance faced Kirsi and barked, then faced Eve and Yamask and barked again in greeting. "Hi Eve. Let's have a good battle," she said, finding it easier to talk to...literally anyone that wasn't named Cyril.
As Kirsi looked at Eve's pokemon though, a though bubbled it's way up into her head. Would a normal move like leer affect a ghost type? ...Crap.

Olivier the Referee
The first round had been a huge success and the audience witness some amazing battles taking place. Olivier was able to see the battle up close and he got to witness the excitement and thrills from each battle. With the winners declared, they would be moving to the next round and once again he would get to see the action up-close. Olivier entered the stage carrying his red and green flags in each hand as well as a smile on his lips.
"This battle is about to start! The competitors are summoning their Pokemon right now. A hot battle will soon commence so trainers get ready!" Olivier spoke with a clear voice into the mic that was on his ear. This allowed everyone in the stadium to listen to his voice. Once both trainer and pokemon were ready, Olivier raised his red and green flag in the air.
"Let the battle...begin!"

Kirsi sure hoped the complete and utter brain fart of apocalyptic proportions didn't show on her face. Why is this so hard?? She hadn't expected battling to be easy, (she had), but there was so many things she just kept questioning! This isn't fair! I haven't taken battle class yet! she wanted to complain to someone, and surely would have gotten red-faced and angry if she weren't about to be in the middle of a battle. Kirsi did not want to look stupid, even more than usual because of Cyril. Even...even if it doesn't work, it should startle Eve's pokemon, right? Maybe it'll keep it on the other side of the field...far away from me. That sure sounded nice.
Kirsi had made up her mind by the time the referee, Olivier, announced the beginning of the battle. Chance bristled in anticipation, looking intimidatingly confident (or maybe it was just the canines poking out of his mouth that would be intimidating). "Okay Chance, use leer! And start getting closer!" she added at the end, mirroring her battle with Cyril. Chance responded by spreading his feet and lowering his head, narrowing his eyes into a powerful leer. He then kicked is back paws against the ground, padding towards Yamask in a crescent path. Bite is good against ghost...I think. So we get closer to try and bite. C-can Chance even bite something like that?

Seeing Kirsi, Evelyn smiled. “Hi Kirsi, you bet.” She agreed. The Kingdra girl hoped she could give Kirsi a good battle. This was only her and Yamask’s second battle. No where she that make her experienced in Pokémon battling. However she’d give it her best shot. She had too for Ichiro who was cheering her on from the sidelines she was sure. Yamask floated between his trainer and Chance. “Yamask.”(Good luck.) The ghost Pokémon replied back to the pup. There was once again the one time that her Pokémon would ever speak.
Turning her attention to the ref, Evelyn got ready. She knew that Yamask would do his best. She just hoped she could be just as good. Adjusting her glasses as the battle was called to start she watched Chance’s ability kick in. Feeling intimidated by the fire type Yamask was slightly nervous, his positivity lessening. ‘So she’s going with leer first…’ Evelyn thought. Now not only would Yamask’s attack go down but so would his defense. Not off to a good start…
Watching as Chance moved towards Yamask in a crescent path. At this point Evelyn had two choices; offensive or defensive. Astonish or Haze? Both options were risky but she knew she wouldn’t get anywhere without taking a chance (no pun intended). Yamask glanced over at his trainer. The ghost type wasn’t sure what she would have him do. The stare he was getting from Chances wasn’t helping either. Evelyn decided what she was going to do. Risk or not it was a risk she’d have to take. “Yamask let’s do this Astonish!” She called out. Yamask shook off the feeling he was having and charged forward towards Chance with a loud cry. They did this before they could do it again.

With Evelyn as her opponent, Kirsi was finding it easier to get into the battle. Imagining Cyril in the crowd watching threatened to have Kirsi tripping herself up, second-guessing everything. But she also thought of Koru, having her own battle right now- Kirsi had to win for her too, so if Koru won they would face each other. Kirsi didn't really want to face Koru, but if there was anyone she was okay losing against, it was her. Across the field, Yamask let out a loud cry. Focus on the battle! Kirsi thought.
Yamask was acting a bit like Aisha by not dodging; except instead of attacking in place it was charging Chance. That made Kirsi wonder if Yamask didn't have any long-range moves, because after battling Cyril she assumed Yamask would use them if it had them. Or dodge if dodging was the better option. There must be some trick then. Kirsi had no idea what that might be, though, and no way to counter it even if she did. She'd just have to believe in Chance.
Yamask slapped its hands against the sides of Chance's head, its shout still ringing in his ears. Chance hesitated, his paws beginning to trip over themselves as he started to come to a stop. "Chance, use Bite!" Kirsi cried out, "Keep going!" Chance's remaining momentum carried him forward, and he snapped out of it. He opened his mouth wide, barreling into Yamask and aiming down for his bite. He sure hoped this time his chomp wouldn't leave him with freezing teeth.

Evelyn watched as Yamask charged forward. As he smacked Chance in the head, the dark haired girl thought they were off to a good start. Chance was definitely put off by the ghost type Pokémon’s cry. She didn’t know how effective it would be but it didn’t matter. Evelyn knew they still had a shot even if it seemed impossible. Sadly the Kingdra didn’t have time to celebrate the good hit her partner made. Why? Because Kirsi wasn’t going to take the hit sitting down, not that Evelyn thought she would.
Deep down Evelyn hoped that Astonish would have cased Chance to flinch like it had Tsutarja. However that didn’t happen. Hearing Kirsi call out the move Bite, Evelyn adjusted her glasses. This was exactly what she was waiting for! “Get ready Yamask!” She called out to her ghost type. Watching as Chance came forward she needed to time this just right. “Now disable!” She told him. Yamask was seemingly on point as the dog Pokémon bit down on him. When Chance’s teeth bit down, Yamask’s eyes began to glow a light blue. His body outlining in a similar blue light before Chance’s body did the same. The light faded shortly after leaving Evelyn with only one predicament.
“Okay, shake him off Yamask!” She instructed her ghost type. Yamask had no idea how he was going to do that. Floating up into the air, Yamask flailed around to get the fire dog off of him. With his arm in the pup’s jaw he could only hope that disabling the move helped loosen the hold on him.

Kirsi watched as Chance hit home, the orange ball of fluff colliding with the dark figure of Yamask. It was a direct hit! But Eve yelled out a command, and Yamask began to glow. What? What is that!? Kirsi's fear of ghosts had her on edge, and the way it was glowing sent shivers up her spine. The glow spread, rushing up Yamask's body and flowing over into Chance from the head down. "Chance, get back!" she yelled as quickly as possible.
Chance felt a strange tingling in his jaw, and Yamask was suddenly floating, pulling his front paws off the ground and threatening to drag his back paws off too. He let go at Yamask's first swing, landing on his hind legs and making a few stumbling steps backwards before the front of his body fell to the ground. Remembering Kirsi's order, he turned and ran back towards her. He panted, jaw hanging losely. It felt all funny, like he couldn't close it strong enough.
"Chance, use bite!" Kirsi was wary of getting close again, but bite was her best option of attack. "Chance?" The growlithe whined, shaking his head and scratching at the ground. Kirsi's confusion was overwritten by the announcer. "That was disable, folks! It stops the target from using its last move. What will Kirsi do now?" Kirsi was glad it was so bright here or she would have started shivering. That blue light, disable... ghosts were so creepy.
Without bite, leer wasn't helpful anymore. Roar couldn't help in a battle like this. Her only option was ember. "Chance, stay back and use ember!" she commanded. Chance nodded and let his mouth fall open, spewing fiery embers at Yamask.

Watching at Chance went flying to the ground, Evelyn was glad to see that her plan had worked. What little of a plan she had worked anyways. “Great work Yamask! Keep it up.” Evelyn said brightly. The ghost type seemingly smiled at his trainer’s praise. Yamask was grateful that Chance was no longer hanging onto him by he’s teeth. It wasn’t the most comforting experience that was for sure.
Listening as Kirsi did the same thing Ichiro did during their battle with each other, Evelyn knew bite wasn’t going to work. Luckily that was the case, since it was a move that Yamask had a real problem with. As the announcer gave an explanation of what had happened, Evelyn wondered what Kirsi would do next. Another leer certainly wouldn’t help her cause. Now with Bite out of the way Chance had to be running out of options. “Stay focused Yamask.” She told him knowing to prepare for anything, especially fire type moves.
When Kirsi called out for the use of ember, Evelyn knew just want to do. “Yamask block the flames with your mask.” The Kingdra girl called out. Yamask was nervous… What if something happened to his mask? He had to trust his trainer knew what she was doing. Taking it with his hands the ghost type held it up as a shield to block the attack. The embers that did manage to get past hurt Yamask a bit. However at least the damage wasn’t near as bad as it would have been, had the attack hit dead on.
“Okay, use astonish, close the gap between you.” Evelyn called out knowing they had to keep on the offensive. They couldn’t just be sitting ducks and play on the defensive. Yamask nodded in understanding before crying out and charging forward. The ghost type was certain he was going to hit Chance like he had earlier. Evelyn secretly hoped that it would cause the fire Pokémon to flinch but only time would tell.

Kirsi frowned, watching as Yamask cowered behind its mask as Chance's ember pelted it. Cyril did something similar, except by dodging instead of staying still. At least that was fair, she thought sullenly, It's not like Chance has something he can just hide behind. Would it be against the rules for her to give him something, like a shield to wear on his back? Probably. It was unfair in Kirsi's opinion, since she didn't have an advantage like that. Then again, Chance was pretty awesome so that had to be worth five masks.
"Chance, circle it!" Kirsi commanded, intending for him to let out an ember while he ran, making it difficult for Yamask to sit in one place. Eve was fighting back against her strategy, sending Yamask in close. "That's fine Chance! Wait until its near and then use ember!" Chance slid to a halt and a moment later Yamask was on him, yelling with its arms ready to hit. When it slapped down, Chance had the opening Kirsi was expecting, but instead of letting out a point-blank ember attack his jaw just opened and shut limply. "Chance, get a hold of yourself!" Kirsi called out, sure that he was startled by how frightening Yamask was. Honestly, she really couldn't understand how Eve could stand to be near such a scary pokemon all the time. In the day it wasn't that bad, but the thought of waking up to see it floating above her bed at night? No thanks.

Evelyn was certainly glad that Yamask had a mask to block with. It might not have blocked all the damage but it blocked at least some of it. Now with Astonish the dark haired girl really wanted to cause Chance to flinch. It would be beneficial in her opinion. Definitely would give her an opening to use haze and remove the status effects of the battle, or even continue with her assault unharmed. Adjusting her glasses, Evelyn watched as Yamask made his move. Rushing forward and messing with Kirsi’s plan, the ghost type Pokémon came forth and nailed Chance.
Not only that but it seemed that Yamask had managed to cause exactly what Evelyn had been looking for. When ember never happened, the young researcher looked to her Pokémon again. “Nicely done Yamask, just what we were looking for.” She praised him. “Keep it up and use astonish again.” While she had intended to use haze when the moment arouse Evelyn had ultimately changed her mind. Something told her if she let up on the opening to attack it wouldn’t be very good for her battle strategy. Besides distancing herself from Chance would hardly be a good idea. With ember it was a real danger, then again one could say being to close was also a danger.
Remaining close to Chance, Yamask cried out again before slapping the fire type once more. He hoped his looming would continue to scare the puppy Pokémon thus saving him from what was to come. Evelyn believed in him though in the back of her mind she wondered if perhaps she was making a critical error in this battle.

There wasn't really much Kirsi could do, watching Chance unable to move. Flinch, was the word for this. His bite attack could have caused it too, but didn't. "Chance, move!" Kirsi called, hoping her voice could snap him out of it again. Eve, instead of having Yamask fall back, commanded it to attack Chance again, slapping him while he was helpless. This is so unfair, Chance can't do anything! It made her chest feel all tight and red-hot with frustration. It was one thing to lose to someone like Cyril, who used tactics that Kirsi admittedly found impressive but it was another thing entirely to lose to someone just using the same attack over and over. Between Yamask's ghost typing and the situation this flinching caused, Kirsi couldn't help the budding of a grudge against Evelyn, even if the other girl was simply following the soundest strategy that Kirsi herself would have likely used in the same situation.
The only solace Kirsi had was that Chance stood strong and firm even if he was hesitating to move. Astonish seemed to be an attack that focused more on intimidation;; Chance's own Intimidate had also helped to ensure he could weather more blows. Looking at Chance standing there, Kirsi got an idea. It wasn't much, but it might help... "Chance, drop to your belly!" Kirsi yelled. Chance found it much easier to simply let his legs go than to try and force them to move. He dropped down, protecting his belly and pressing himself flat against the ground. The solidness of it helped him to feel better and calmed him down.

Again the gods were with Evelyn and Yamask. Okay maybe the gods weren’t but they sure were lucky despite the norm they usually ended up having. Course as far as battles were going luck seemed to be on their side. Evelyn wasn’t about to complain about such things. No, she’d take the luck at least this once. Watching as her ghost type Pokémon hit Chance, Evelyn wasn’t expecting another round of flinching. However apparently Yamask was really listening to her, not that she doubted he wouldn’t. The ghost Pokémon always listened aside from popping out of his pokéball.
If Kirsi was made at Evelyn for what she was doing she didn’t know what to say. This was just what she had to do. She couldn’t give up just because Yamask was limited. The Kingdra hoped that Kirsi at least understood the matter of limitations and working with what they had. After all Kirsi didn’t know what moves Yamask had at that moment in time. Pushing those thoughts aside she watched as Kirsi had Chance drop to the ground. As he lay on the ground sprawled out like an area rug, Evelyn wondered if it was helping the dog Pokémon. If it did that was pretty interesting to her. Though it wasn’t like she could call out and ask right?
Taking a breath Evelyn could see that Yamask was putting everything he had into the battle. Win or lose he was a winner to her. “Yamask don’t stop!” She called out. It was the only attacking move she had unfortunately. So it was the only thing she could do. Hopefully Kirsi would understand as Yamask cried out again and attacked with yet another astonish.
