Concerning the Sages•••
Those touched by the Weaver...

"The past is the key to the future... even at this early age, there are events that transpire that cannot, for the sake of the future, fade into the mists of the forgotten. I will reach my hand down as the Newly-Woven begin to rise from the earth and touch their eyes as they begin to open for the first time. To each of these, I will grant a name only others can see... a name that will open their minds to the mysteries of the past. My dear ones, you will not allow your brothers and sisters to forget. You will walk alone, loved and hated, but this is a burden that you must bear.."

Before reading on...

All information regarding how to obtain a Sage can be found here along with a summery of their abilities and limitations. Before reading on, we highly suggest that you read over the rules there as we will reference them within this guide.

oo1 || The Physical Aspects •••
Biologically speaking, Sages are set apart from normal B'alam in only one way- their eyes. Every sage woven into being is born with a unique symbol (which will come to be known as a Sage's Rune) within their eyes in place of a normal pupil. The pupil is there, technically speaking, but the color is so muted within the eye, especially under the rune, that it's difficult to see.

About half of the woven sages will be physically blind, but this is up to the player's preference. When woven, a new sense is introduced to the B'alam. Sometimes they have the physical and spiritual strength to adapt quickly and retain both their spiritual sight and their physical sight, but in some cases the B'alam's body rejects one sense for the other.

Blind Sages, like other blind B'alam, will adapt to their disability by having a slightly better sense of hearing and spiritual awareness. As mentioned in the Beginner`s Guide, all B'alam are able to sense each other's half-spirits when they're in close proximity to one another.

oo2 || The Mental Aspects •••
Sages will, at first, have no way of knowing that they are different from any other B'alam. It must be through actual encounters that they realize that something is very different about them. Initially, most B'alam should be a little put off by the Sages. There is no explanation for them and the lack of pupils should be a little jarring at first. In short, Sages will have no idea that they are different, unique, "cursed", "blessed" or anything else without actual character development. The Weaver gave them free will, just as any other B'alam, and wants to see them discover their own being for themselves.

Other B'alam may feel "exposed" when they fall under the mysterious abilities of the sage. Depending on how the sage is played, it's possible to assume that if a sage can look into the past of a B'alam they are encountering physically, the B'alam who's past is being glanced over can feel like they're being looked through. Depending on the B'alam, this could lead to some unfortunate situations.

As for the sages and their own mental health in dealing with the effects of their abilities- that is up to the player to decide. Some B'alam may eventually go mad due to seeing memories that are not their own, witnessing atrocities, or even living life through the eyes of others. Blind B'alam may have a little more difficulty mentally processing the visions they are given. Blind B'alam do not have a normal perception of the physical world, so when they are presented with memories that gives them a glimpse into the physical world it may rattle them more than it would their sage brothers and sisters who were blessed with both supernatural and physical sight. Imagine getting a few minute glimpse at a universe with colors and shapes that don't exist on our own. It may be very hard for you to describe what it is you've just seen. This is very much like how a blind sage may react to what they see.

Memories, like every other aspect, is really up to you. Some sages may just spout out what is is they see in the moment and forget about their visions the moment they return to the present, some may have a carbon memory of everything they've ever seen. It's up to the individual.

oo3 || The Spiritual Aspects •••
The ability of the sages is a spiritual one that comes directly from The Grand Weaver himself. The sight is not something that appears in their mind, though the mind is forced to make sense of the spiritual impulses they are given, nor is it something that they physically are present for. The visions play directly through the B'alam's spirit. Because their spirit is working a little more than most other B'alam, Sages tend to be a little more sensitive to the spiritual realm.

Seers can sense the half-spirits of their brothers and sisters in a little more detail. For blind sages, this helps them navigate around their fellows. Some sages may actually have their visions activated by being around other B'alam. Again, these effects are up to the individual.

Disclaimer

While we are leaving a lot of decisions up to the player, there will always be ways to godmode. Because of this, if there are problems with how your sage is manifesting their abilities you may be contacted with suggestions on how you can play your sage in a more reasonable manner. We don't want to nerf or limit anyone's creativity or plots, but we do want to keep a fair balance for everyone involved.
