Night had rolled across the way leaving day with in its wake. Like always Kalani was the first one up out of his family, aside from his sister Kalista. She was already gone and off to her early training once again it seemed. Kalani was close to his sister, closer than he was to the rest of his siblings; they had a bond one that he did not really share with any of his other siblings. Each of them had their own goals and dreams were this pale blue cub did not have any of the sort. Aside from never growing up, though that was not really a goal, but an unattainable dream, sooner or later he would have to grow up and he had no choice about it.

His nocturnal eyes drifted towards the entrance of the ‘den’ pulling him out of the depressing thoughts of his. Perhaps he would be brave enough to go and search for Kalista again. But that thought slowly disappeared at the memory of how nerve racking it was last time. Then it appeared again as the positive outcome of that trip came to mind. He could leave himself; it had been done and could be done again. Slowly the dark tribe cub moved lifting paw over paw and he silently moved to the entrance. Hesitation was clear in his movements as he reached the door, his ears shifting back upon his head as he glanced once more over his shoulder towards his sleeping family. He could do this he knew it, as long as he did not run into any sandworms.

At the sound of movement in the ‘den’ Katrina cracked an eye open. This was the second time she had been woken in her sleep by movement. First by Kalista heading out to her earlier training and now by Kalani Lifting her head slightly she saw as one of her cubs left the den. This was normal she had become quite the light sleeper after their first two cubs, however she was still exhausted from the night before. Putting to bed four eager cubs was much harder than putting to bed two highly energetic cubs. The clan was safe, it was common fact since nothing ever bad seemed to happen around here. It was peaceful.

Laying her head back down, she nuzzled closer to her mate who was still deep in sleep along with their blood brother Zeke. Each were tired from their nightly duties as knights and protectors of this place as well as dealing with the four cubs on top of that. Raising children was quite exhausting, however she did enjoy it seeing their bright faces eager to learn lightened any exhaustion she had for the night.

As long as they stayed within the walls of the clan they were the safest one could be. Yet this was Kalani so she was not worried about him leaving the territory at all. He seemed to be the most lax out of his siblings, the one who did not wish to grow up, sooner or later he would have to face that. However seeing him leave on his own accord was quite uplifting, possible he was getting a bit better at being more independent like the rest of his siblings.

After several moments which seemed to be ages the little one left the den, stepping out into the evening. Bravery it was something that was growing into him. With each step away from their home he could feel himself getting a bit stronger. Perhaps now he could be more use to his family. Slowly he kept to the shadows of the rough structures of the clan. Each step was as nerve racking as the last, but as he moved his movements become more fluid and less shaky. Yes, he could do this. Seeing a moon moth flutter in the sky he began to chase after it, perhaps if he caught one for each of his family members they could all go to the moon and forever stay together. The thought of the big scary sandworms his sister described to him long ago were no longer in his thoughts.

The thought of his family staying as one pushed him further from home then he had ever been to before, even crossing out of clan territory was easier than it had been in the past when he was with his siblings and parents. They always took them on small trips to see new things so they could expand their horizon. He chased the insect very far into the plains as he zig-zagged in and out of the tall grasses. Every once and a while he would try to pounce at it, only to make it flutter farther causing the cub to once again chase after it.

Following the moon moth had brought him quite far, in fact by time he realized how far he had gone he was out of sight of everything that was familiar to him. Panic soon settled with in the small dark cubs being. Where was he? Which way back was home? Lost, that is what he was. Soon his bravery from before was gone. His heart began to beat even faster the normal, more then what it was when he was running after the bug. Kalani’s entire being began to shake, as one of his panic attacks began to begin.

Note: Sandworms are imaginary creatures his sister Kalista created in one of their past rps. Moon Moths is something they call the whitish moths they used to chase.

User Image Night had finally decended upon the land and removed the vile blinding light of day. There was a crisp scent on the air this night. Change of season was upon them. The soft buzz and chirps of bugs quieted down lately during the evening and gave way to the gentgle chorus of the rattling leaves in the breeze.

Cain had been scouting this area for a few nights now. He still needed to atone for his sins against his great leader. Three newly ascended magi had bright him down, the last one had nearly cost him his life. Fire was surely a force to be reckoned with.

Despite the loss of most of his left ear, left eye and nearly half of the left side of his face, he had made a full recovery and showed no signs of emerging weaker from the encounter. His body was riddled with burn scars and gnashes, wings torn (but not enough to cause any trouble with his flight), but he was as strong as ever, if not wiser from the experience.

His head turned toward a sudden shuffling of grass. A small cub rattling as if he was one of the leaves clinging to the trees. He narrowed his eyes and folded his wings tight to his frame than made his very cautious approach.

"Young lad are you alright?" Cain inquired in a deep yet slightly raspy voice.

The sense of impending doom fell over the young dark member. His breathing came in short spastic breaths. What if he couldn't find his way back? What if the sandworms where near and got him? How would his parents act with him gone? This and several more ran through his head as he felt like the world was crashing down around him. His wing clenched tightly to his back, there was no way he would be flying in his 'condition', so finding his way from the air would be impossible.

The sight of another only seemed to make his shaking even worse. He wanted to run from this newly arrived stranger, but his paws wouldn't move. Aside from his shaking his entire body wouldn't budge, aside from what his mind was telling him. Kalani tried to speak but nothing would come out of his maw but a bit of a whimper as his legs collapsed under him.

Despite observing that the other was like him, well mostly like him, just bigger, and with scars. His wings were bit torn like his, causing the young one to wonder if he two was born like that. Like both his parents. However the young one's mind went towards the worst of it all, perhaps this one was here to eat him? But, maybe he had it all wrong maybe this one could help him get home. The little bit of hope in that thought began to calm him a bit. Enough that he was able to finally get words out.

"Lost" was all that was able to be squeaked out of him this time. His telepathic voice trembled as much as his shaking body.

Cain eyed the cub carefully with his good eye. Nothing about this cub bursted confidence, but he did not seem afraid. At least of the B'alam standing before him. The cub himself seemed a little tattered around the wings, perhaps he was a woven cub who had been fending for himself? Cain could have swore that he had seen someone like that cub before though.

No matter. There was no use in dwelling on such things. Here was a perfectly good cub and a good candidate for Morning Star's ranks. Lost? What better opportunity to become found.

Cain drew in a soft breath before slowly kneeling down. Ever since his encounter with a young rambunctious cub that left him with tiny scars across the bridge of his nose. A constant reminder that anything in this world could turn on a dime. He would always be ready for a sudden sign of aggression, even from a cub.

"Perhaps I can help you little one." Cain offered calmly. "I know these lands well."

Which was not far from the truth. Cain had spent most of his life scouting the lands and becoming familiar with them. The only thing that had changed was the inhabitance. New b'alam were appearing constantly and making their homes wherever they pleased.

Raised in a good family where nothing ever seemed to have gone wrong. Kalani was a bit naive about the real world around him. Naive about how evil would tend to lurk in the dark places of the world. As you could say this little cub saw good in everyone he came in contact with as that is what he grew up around. The calm tone of the other did give him hope that this one could help him find his way back to his family.

The calm tone of the other did help him calm his own nerves slightly. His shaking was still there, but it lessened as time went. It would never fully be gone, not until he was back into the comforts of his own home. He could try to be brave but his bravery always ended up in this way. Hopefully one day he could be brave like his siblings and parents, but that would involve growing up and the cub did not want that to happen just yet.

"Could help?" he questioned with a small squeak, potential hope with in his small soft voice. His sentences were not complete but it was to be expected from the small light blue cub. It was the best he could muster at this time, but hopefully it would be relayed to the other before him. "Find Family?"

Those two simple words that the cub uttered was all Cain needed to hear. This one was separated from those who could possibly protect him from being taken in. Or perhaps there were more cubs that were included in this 'family'. Either way, it would be too risky to find out at the moment. Cain could always return to scout the area after he brought the cub to Morning Star.

Cain's ears twitched before he looked around the surrounding area. He could feel no other soul present. Just the young cub. So if there were more b'alam around they were quite a distance away.

"Yes, Little one." Cain responded as he turned his focus back to the small cub.

Thankfully the cub did not seem offset by the grotesque deformities plaguing his face. Cain had discovered the burn marks to be far more disfiguring than a mere slash. For him it was a visual punishment to his failures when rightly he deserved death for them... A thought left for another time. Now, he had to focus on bringing this young one back to Morning Star. And he seemed willing to accept help even from a mangled one-eyed b'alam.

"Stay close." He instructed. "Your family, do they look like you?"

Though the inquiry seemed honest enough, Cain didn't really care. If this kid were not going to struggle he best believe that the help being offered was sincere. It was rather a pain when they struggled... Cain wanted to avoid that at all costs.

The light blue dark's teal orbs seemed to brighten up at the others comply to help him. "Really?" he questioned. Although he was still shaking he was feeling more and more comfortable around this other dark tribe member. He had a friend here who would not leave him. It was then he realized that he did not know the other's name. "Kalani" he stated giving his own name, hoping the others would comply with his own name.

The cub didn't mind the disinformation of the other, he himself had been awakened with such in his wings like the other. It was a curiosity on to how he got the wounds or if he was born with them but Kalani was not one to pry into other's affairs with out good reason to.

Trying to keep to his paws he kept with the pace of the other. Keeping close to the adults' paws. "Yes, Black and orange though." The tiny cub rubbed himself close to the as he spoke about his parents and uncle.. "Father Strong, Mother Kind. Uncle kind. " he continued.

His comfort zone with the other was growing and it showed as his words formed better sentences. "Protect me from Sandworms?" he questioned. "They are large creatures who eat cubs." he explained.

"Cain" Cain responded as briefly as his young captive.

The fact that he was warming up to a stranger so quickly lead Cain to believe this young one was likely very new to this cruel world. Which was a boon for him. Regardless if that was true or not, he was pleased that this was going along well. He also did not mind someone so young knowing his name. Surely he would learn it later under Morning Star. There was nothing to hide in his identity...

Cain listened carefully to the cub as he described his family. So there was another cub out there? That was at least good new, there would be more to possibly come back for. The thought, however, was very brief. When the young cub mentioned his parents Cain believed it might not be a task he could complete unless that cub became lost as well. At some point, someone will miss this young lad. By than it will be too late...

He paused in step and glanced up a tree. It would be sturdy enough to launch from. And the young cob just provided a wonderful reason to fly. Cain had never heard of a "Sandworm" before, but he could run with the story.

"That will be my first priority, Kalani. I will protect you." He assured the cub.

"It may be safer to scan the sky. I can fly very high, where they cannot reach, no matter how large they are. But I must carry you."

Sir Cain, Mister Cain or just Cain, Kalani wondered which one the adult preferred. However he did not ask. As the sandworms which he had so thoughtlessly brought up instilled new fear into the small cub. The way his sister had described them caused them to be quite terrifying for the semi skittish cub.

As Cain reassured him with his comforting words Kalani was beginning to like this adult even more so. In away this adult reminded him of his uncle, Zeke. Caring but with a strong presence.

"I..I can...can fly" he spoke softly. Well it was more like glide, he needed more practicing flying. But he also didn't want to make the other seem like he was completely useless. Even so, even with his 'gliding' he most likely would not be able to do that now. Not with the tremors which seemed to continue to shake his body as well as how his fear had his wings clenched to his back.

"That I do not doubt, but only those with wings as big as mine can fly high enough." Cain attempted to convince the cub.

Playing games was not something Cain had favored. The less words and the sooner a task was completed the better. Here he was playing hero to a young lost cub, whose family should soon be looking for them. At least, that is what Cain figured. He still could not feel the presence of another soul which meant he was still in the clear.

"It is no burden, Kalani. I have promised to protect you." He once again assured the cub of his "most purest" intentions. "I will hold you by the back of your neck, you may feel slightly drowsy. Sleep if you must, there is no shame in it. I will keep an eye out for your family and bring you home safely."

He turned his head toward the cub than carefully proceeded to try and pick him up by the scruff of his neck.

The adult did speak the truth. Kalani never has gone high enough to fly over how big these sandworms were suppose to be. "I..Suppose" he whispered. At least he tried, and well for him that was all that really mattered.

"You did promise," He replied with a bit more confidence "And promises can't be broken" the small cub gave a small smile. Well that was his belief anyways that promises couldn't be broken, little did he know that they were broken all the time, and that going with this stranger would in fact break a promise he had made with his older sister. Kalani nodded at the last statement of the others, he trusted him completely and there was no doubt in the small naive cub's mind that this one would fulfill his promise and return him home.

The light blue cub did not resist as the other picked him up by the scruff of the neck. Sleep did take the small cub, quite quickly too. One of the few reasons why this happened was because this entire whole ordeal exhausted the timid little cub. Both mentally and physically. Another was that he trusted this one explicitly so he felt at ease, almost like Cain had become a part of his 'family' with their entire encounter.

'A promise should never be broken', for some reason those words caused Cain to pause in mid action. No, one shouldn't ever break a promise. The word "protect" was broad enough. There could be a plethora of things in this world to be protected from. Still, it bothered Cain that he had to even stop and think about what the cub had said. Morning Star would not be pleased about this hesitation.

Very carefully, Cain grabbed the by the scruff of his neck than lifted him from the ground. He couldn't ask for a better scenario. The cub was asleep and more than willing to follow.

Without any more hesitations Cain found a good launch point and as carefully as possible made himself airborne. His large wings spread wide as he climbed in altitude and made his way toward Morning Star's island. It would be a long flight, but one possible to make before dawn. Even at the pace of a dark b'alam. Cain had made the trips so many times the return home seemed like the mere blink of an eye.

The caves within the mountains were deep enough to live in. They were also tall enough for even Cain to stand and stretch his wings without scraping the walls. Soft sand covered most of the floor. The newly rising sun from the outside world could not be seen from where they were within the cave. Which was just fine with Cain. He had set the cub down and lay down beside Kalani, his wing unfolded to cover the young one while he slept.

Sleep had kept the small cub still through their journey in the sky. For the post part they were dreamless, unlike the past few days of sleep he had been getting. Lately his sleep had been plagued with daymares. Mainly of sandworms and other creatures his siblings made up to scare him.

Wehn they landed and he was placed under Cain's wings he snuggled closer to the adults fur and warmth, however he did not wake. Slept took the young one peacefully until the daymares returned and once again he was fighting and losing to a sandworm. Just as he was about to get eaten by it he woke with a jolt.

Groggily he shifted himself his lower lip trembled as he was on the verge of tears. No he didn't want to return to his dreams, they too were scary. The familiar scent of Cain drifted over him calming him a bit but poor little Kalani was scared out of his mind. Usually his parents would help calm him down during one of his daymare scares but this time he did not have the luxury of it.

Not once did his mind think to question where they were. Shakily the small cub moved to his paws and moved close to the good side of Cains face. "Cain" he whispered softly his voice trembling as he spoke, he poked him with gently with his paw trying to wake the other.

GunSniper
I don't mind at all. Weather he was asleep or not he trusts Cain enough.

Like the young cub, Cain had usually no dreams. He occasionally had a daymare, but they were too few and far in between. Tonight was no exception. His slumber was more like a simple blink and time had passed once again. He could feel the distress of Kalani and was oddly inclined to tighten his wing around the cub when he felt the slight shifting than shaking.

Cain looked about with his good eye, his head having to turn completely to the left to get a full view, to be sure that moron Kagi or the other cubs were not around. Their spirits could not be felt, so that was also a for sure sign that none were close. Heaven forbid any of them see what he was about to do... or was doing.

"... Yes, Kalani?" Cain responded while he lowered his head once again. "What troubles you?"

The fact he inquired was even odd to himself. The cubnapping had taken place and it was time to drop the act. He was still waiting to present the cub to morning star... Normally he would have dropped the cub with Kagi and reported to his lord as soon as it was possible. Now it would seem as if he would personally be introducing the cub to Morning Star. Perhaps this one was worthy enough to be-

Cain cut his thoughts short. Having a personal apprentice would be the decision of his lord and his lord only.

"T-The s-sandworms" he stuttered. It was quite obvious that his fear and uncertainty was back as his sentences were once again fragmented. "E-eat m-me." He would not be able to fall back to sleep now, for fear that his dream would continue and the sandworms would really get him.

He pushed himself closer to Cain trying to find some comfort for his fears, usually when he was like this his mother would stay up and comfort him. Mother. Boy did he miss her, especially at a time like this. "I-I w-want m-mother," he whimpered softly tears beginning to form on the edges of his eyes.
