Where: Deep Space
When: The Year 3022
The Story: There is an object hidden deep in the core of a planet said to reside at the far edges of space. The only problem is, no one seems to be able to find it. Pirates and Government alike have become lost in the recesses of space searching for the planet. However, one ship, the Omega, has recently acquired a strange map. They have not yet figured out how to read the little cube, but the small crew of pirates is unknowingly closer than anyone in the universe to uncovering the treasure of a lifetime...
Who:

User Image

Name: Holly Lundqvisk
Nickname: Half-Life Holly
Age: Twenty
Specialty: Navigation specialist, and the pilot of the ship.
Weapon of Choice: Holly carries a high-powered blaster that she stole with the ship, and an old-fashioned pirate sword. The thing fascinates her, and she can't bring herself to let it go, even though it's not the most practical these days.
Short Bio: Holly was the daughter of a government scientist on her home planet. When she was a child, they implanted certain technology into her brain, hoping to use her as a government weapon in whatever wars might come their way one day. Her fighting skills are good, and her navigational skills are better. When she turned Nineteen, they put her in charge of a ship, The Omega. Not wanting to be a government rat in an intergalactic war, Holly commandeered the ship and was out of her own galaxy before they even knew what had happened. She has since taken up Piracy, as the navigator, pilot, and map expert of The Omega. She travels with a single companion, and she dreams of finding the lost treasure at the end of the universe.
Other: Holly's nickname comes from the fact that she has technology in her brain. People tease her about being only half a person.

Name: Gyro Cratos
Codename: Virax
Age: Twenty-Five
Specialty: Battle Specialist and Tactician. Sniper
Weapon of Choice: Gyro wears a special suit built by him that fits only him. This special suit includes wrist lasers paired with advanced targeting systems that allow for pinpoint accuracy. He of course designed this suit himself in the ships hull from the technology that had been pillaged from the many places in which they have stolen from. This special targeting suit also is made of a special carbon fiber that makes the wearer extremely agile, but sacrifices a lot of armor. He did fashion metal plates on the vital areas to protect them, and areas that weren't joints, but he kept his joints free for the greatest movement.

He also carries a high-powered Beam (Sniper) Rifle in which reaches up to ranges of 2300 yards, customized with a retractable scope. The scope has a variable magnification of 10x, 20x, 40x, 80x, 100x, the last setting used for strictly extremely long range shots. Of course, the beam starts to fade at about 2000 yards because the light particle separation. He also has forged a kitana, forged of the strongest, but lightest metals in the entire galaxy, with enough sharpness and swiftness to even cut through small bits of steel. Last but not least, his beam pistol that he carries which has an effective top range of 70-100 yards...100 not having real killing ability. In close range, it is extremely deadly.

Short Bio: Gyro is the son of an engineer on the planet of Syrna. Brought up to be an excellent tactician and excellent inventor, the boy known as Virax was raised to become one of the top military officers of Syrna, brought up as the what would could only be described as the master of war strategy. What a chess master was to chess, he was to war. And as he grew, they forced him into the role...and the problem was, he flourished. He flourished too much and at the age of sixteen, got to watch the destruction of planets happen because of him. Masses of people left dead whilst the army was under his command. He grew emotionally hardened, but part of him remained intact, not wanting to do it anymore. And that's what happened. He fought his way out after resigning and found himself in a life on the run, constantly being hunted by Syrna imperial forces, but he did find Holly on the way and together, they took up piracy, which yes wasn't far off what he had done in the past, but it was on a small scale and much more tolerable.

His name Virax comes from the way that he would get his troops into some places without anyone even batting an eye. He would instill viruses into computer systems to bypass certain firewalls. He has gotten so good at it that he has became known as one of the most intelligent hackers to ever have graced the galaxy and remains at large, pirating and doing what he does best.

Holly Lundqvisk

Holly sat in the control room of The Omega, her feet propped up on the console. She was tossing a small cube up in the air over and over again. The cube was silver, with small indentations on each face. A dim green light glowed through the etchings. The thing baffled Holly. She knew it must be some kind of code, or writing, or that the cube must be able to open somehow. Yet try as she might, she was unable to figure the thing out. So she just stared at it. Maybe if she stared long and hard enough, she would have some great epiphany about it. So far that idea had worked out as well as all of the others.

She knew she wasn't paying enough attention to her ship, but as far as she was concerned they were still heading in the right direction, and all of the gravitational fields were too far from them to cause any real problems. For now they would be alright.

The Omega drifted smoothly though the stars. It was quite a large ship, for a crew of only two: Herself, and an ex military officer called Virax. It required a lot of effort to get going, as it resembled a large wooden ship. Although the controls themselves were electronic, the two had to open all of the sails on the deck before taking off, and make sure everything was tied down properly. It was kind of a pain, but Holly refused to give up the ship she had taken on her own, and Gyro could leave any time he wanted if he decided it was too much for him. But for now their arrangement worked out nicely for both of them, and kept both of them on the move, and away from any searching officials.

Virax walked into the control room of the Omega, knowing that it was where Holly was. He had brought a few computers to run decryption codes on the cube, thinking that maybe he could tackle what exactly the cube was saying, or other information it might hold. Up until that point, it just about fried every computer he had and he was sure that it would do the same with next, that is, unless he got the decryption right. Looking over at Holly, he took off his helmet and gave her a small smile. "Holly, I need to run a decryption program on that cube. Hopefully I can get us closer to figuring out what it is. Honestly though, I'm expecting it to fry this computer too, but maybe I can get a little closer to unlocking it for us," he said, holding his hand out for the cube.

He awaited her answer, keeping his helmet off for the time being, knowing that he didn't need it because they weren't in danger at that very moment. Plus, he'd much rather talk to holly with his helmet off than him sitting there with a robotic sounding voice. Because that was just the microphone putting effects on his normal voice. It made it immensely deeper and was very threatening. Holly of course he didn't want to sound threatening to.

Holly did not look up from the cube as Gyro came into the control room with his computers. She passed it back and forth between her hands, giving it one last hard look, before holding it out for him to take. She didn't really want to let go of it, but she wasn't really getting anywhere. "Do you think we'll ever figure this thing out?" She asked. The suspense of it was killing her. She had never in her life been this dumbfounded over anything before, but this technology was not something her brain was equipped to handle.

After releasing the cube, Holly turned her attention to her monitors to make sure they were still in the clear; There appeared to be no impending problems. The gravity field around their ship was ay-okay, and their shielding looked in good shape as well.

Holly stood from her chair at the console and stretched out, her body stiff from sitting for so long. Then she walked over to the little window that looked out in front of them. She stared out at the sea of stars before them, and far across the way was a brightly colored, cloud-like nebula. It looked like it would spread out and swallow them up, but the thick shape remained completely still, suspended in space.

Virax could only shrug his shoulders as she asked whether or not they would ever figure out what the cube was. Part of him liked to think that they were, but Virax was as close to finding out what the cube contained as he was when they first got it quite frankly. All of his decryption programs failed and he was left to figure out why. He was confident about the program he had that he was about to run, but he knew that there was a 99% chance that it would fail. "Holly, I'm just as close to figuring out what it is as I was when we first found the d*** thing," he said to her as honestly as he could. Shaking his head he then looked at her. "But that being said, I'm sure we will get it...someday we will...whether it's tomorrow or two years from now." He took the cube from her hands and went his computer, running its network wires to the cube, hoping that he could get the cube to actually do anything on his computer, unlike the first time he tried.

He watched with a smile as the cube responded to the program, but within a few seconds...but much longer than his previous attempts, his computer shut down and was overloaded with the information that was fed into it. To anyone else, it looked like a complete and utter failure, but to him, he was another step closer. "Anything short of a super computer is going to be overloaded by this cube unfortunately." He looked at her then and then said something else. "But...this computer took quite a bit longer to overload; so that means it wasn't exactly broken by the pure power of the cube, rather a tidbit of information that flowed into it. That means, part of my decryption code. Part of it...a part in which is miniscule, worked. The bad part is...I have no idea what part it could be and there is thousands of lines of code in this special decryption too. It's progress."

Holly raced over to look over Gyro's computer at the now empty screen. Even though he counted it as a win, Holly couldn't help but be disappointed. She banged her fist on the edge of her control console before spinning back to face the front-facing window once more. For a moment she was silent. Then something occurred to her.

"Virax? What if we're approaching this all wrong? We have such analytical minds... What if this thing responds to organic activity? Rather than electronic?" Holly asked. It sounded strange, and kind of crazy. But the universe was a large place, whose to say this thing didn't come from some civilization that revolved around organic manipulation? Not every planet had to be advanced technologically.

Holly took up the cube in her own hands again, looking it over for any kind of pattern or symmetry, or anything she might have missed that could indicate the object being responsive to touch or an organic material. There was nothing she could see outright, but she had a few ideas. "I'll look into it..." She muttered, more to herself than to Gyro.

The cube entranced Holly. It was the most interesting, mysterious, infuriating thing they had ever come across. It was a challenge, for both of them, and that made it even more intriguing. Not much could go as far over their heads as this thing had, between the two of them. They were a force to be reckoned with, when they put their heads together. But this cube, this small little glowing thing that fried their systems and had no obvious key to unlock it's secrets, was leaving them dumbfounded.

He watched Holly bang the edge of her console, obviously in frustration. He felt a little bad for the girl because Virax knew she really wanted to know what was behind the cube and it was testing her patience. As she faced the window, she had not said a word and was facing the window, but fortunately, she didn't stay silent for too long. And when she did, the girl made an observation that could be plausible. He gave her a nod, pointing his finger at her. "That...that could very well be true. It could be like one of the old stories they used to tell us back at the academy. That when searching rooms, a lot of the more advanced races that didn't have access to technology would make response triggers to an object being in a certain place. For all we know, this cube could fit on some pedestal in the Outskirts of this galaxy on an asteroid," he commented, thinking about it a bit as he said it. That would surely make their search even harder because there were many planets and there were many asteroids. "Unfortunately, a search for that would include an extreme stroke of luck to fulfill. It could happen. Then again, there could be another organic manipulation, but that always seemed like the prominent ones"

He watched as the girl had taken the cube back into her hands and seemed to be messing with it. He wouldn't stop her because he was done with it for that moment. "We'll figure out what it does soon enough. When we do, it'll pay off," he said finally, hoping she would understand that.

Holly shook her head when he suggested the possibility that they would only figure it out with a stroke of pure luck. "That can't be it! It can't be that difficult! There has to be another solution." She poked at the thing some more, hoping it would do something, anything. She would stay up all night trying if she had to. The thought of this thing taking months, or even years to figure out killed her inside. Holly had to figure it out soon, or she thought she might very well explode. She sighed. "I'm sorry, Virax... I don't mean to be so hotheaded. This thing just uses all of my patience, and you know I don't have much to begin with..." Holly tended to get easily frustrated with anything she couldn't understand, since most things were so easy for her to understand.

The girl seemed to have gotten a bit...frustrated by the his notion that maybe it would be pure luck to find truly what the cube was. And he could definitely feel why she felt that way. She was getting a bit impatient with it...that he knew. Holly was impatient...and quick triggered to say the least, while Virax was extremely patient and not easily frustrated at all. It was actually interesting to see how different they were. They both balanced the other out it seemed. "As much as I want to say that there is a better one, I couldn't promise you such a thing...you know that," he said calmly.

As Holly apologized, he waved it off. "It's quite alright. I know that you are just itching to find out what is behind it," he said to her, walking over to her and placing his hand on her shoulder. "But know that this isn't ordinary technology. We've traveled many galaxies and I have yet to see anything that even remotely resembles this cube. It's going to take time. There isn't a big sign somewhere telling us what to do with this one." He took his hand off of her shoulder as he finished, walking over to the central mainframe to check on weapon stability and readiness, just in case they were to run into something.

"I should be making contact soon with a friend on the planet Hassan. He might know what exactly this cube is. He is a very wise elder that my father had sent me to learn from for a few years. If anyone knows where to start with this...this cube...it's him," he said, pressing a few buttons on the screen and pulling up a console to try to get in contact with Nazeem. "And before you ask, we can trust him. I trust Nazeem with my life. He sheltered me after I ran away from the military, even when I was a wanted criminal."

Holly nodded to her companion. She trusted Virax, and she would trust anyone that he thought they could trust. As much as she wanted to figure the cube out for herself, she knew that she needed a nudge in the right direction, at least. Even if they could just find out what civilization it came from, she might be able to do more with it than she was currently able to do. "Alright, alright. But I end up with a knife in my back, I'm blaming you." She joked, knowing full well that if he trusted someone with his life, they would not be likely to get rid of her.

Holly sat back down in her chair, waiting for Virax to get in touch with his contact. She still poked and prodded at the cube in the meantime, on the off-chance that she might be able to get it to do something. Even just a change in the cube's glow would be a start.

He gave a chuckle at the girl's joke, finding it a bit amusing. Playing along, he said "At this point, I don't even think a knife to the back will stop you from figuring out what this cube is." Smiling as he said it. "I suggest that you direct the ship towards Hassan. I'm sure you know the coordinates off the top of your head by now."

He cycled through the contacts and then pressed Nazeem...to which the man seemed to be expecting them. His hologram pulled up onto the screen, large enough for Holly to see. "Master Nazeem...it is great to see you," he said aloud, putting his fist to his heart and bowing his head to the man in which he learned his fighting style from.

"And it is great to see you my student," the hologram stated with a smile. Gyro then cut to the chase, just so his message would not be intercepted. The least amount of time he spent on the machine, the better. If his message were to be intercepted, proving Nazeem was linked to Gyro, the wanted criminal, then his old master would surely be put to death by the planet's king.

"Master, my companion and I came across a...cube of some sorts. A cube in which...well, we can't decipher. I have tried many different decryption softwares and none of them have done the trick. None of them have even put a dent in it. It seems the power of the cube alone was enough to completely fry my computer," Virax said, looking at his master, hoping he had the answers in which he sought.

"A cube you say. I will have to see it for myself before I can make my judgement. Bring it to me on Hassan. I will be within the Nunji temple, in the old dojo you used to train in. I bid thee farewell my student, for I must go. May the Power of Nunji guide you safely," Vyrax's master said with a smile and then the line ended, the hologram fading.

He looked over at Holly. "Well, you heard the man. Let's get to Hassan! He might know something," he said excitedly.

Holly turned to her console, letting the cube rest in her lap for a moment. She hit a couple of buttons, swiped her fingers across the screen, hit a few more buttons, and then punched a much larger one. The ship was set to head to Hassan. "The government couldn't stop me from finding out what this cube is." She grumbled, knowing that was the thing they both feared most.

The ship turned slightly, angling itself more towards the planet they were headed to. Holly turned her attention back to the cube. She sighed. "I should probably eat something. I've been so focused on this thing I haven't eaten yet today..."

Vyrax looked at her for a moment as she mentioned that the government couldn't stop them...chuckling. "The government won't get within three-thousand meters of without us knowing with the sonar I've built out here. But the galactic government's hold on Nazeem is strong so we will need to lay low a bit. We will have to land outside of the city of Harem, where the temple is located, because the government will notice us if we don't. Then in the city we'll have to be very careful. Nothing too conspicuous. Not like our usual jobs," he said with a smirk. Usually, they would just be able to rush in and still walk out relatively unnoticed...yet, this time, they would have to move carefully and preferably with a distance between each other. There were probably wanted posters all over the city with their faces on it; so he would have to lose the suit he was wearing and go for a more common person look.

He never noticed just how into the cube she was until she said she didn't eat that day. He had no idea what time it was because the essence of time didn't really apply in space really, but they had been up for a good while. "Yeah, you definitely should eat. And not near the cube either. You need to take a break from that thing for a little while. You're staring at it like it's the only thing in this whole entire galaxy," he said jokingly, running computer scans on practically everything on the ship to make sure everything was functioning properly.

Holly listened to Virax explain the plan for getting to his friend unnoticed. She rolled her eyes at having to be so careful. Holly was good at blending in with a crowd and sneaking around, but that didn't mean it was how she preferred to do things. She was more of a "guns ablaze" kind of girl. If she wasn't noticed, where was the fun in getting away? Besides, it gave her some small satisfaction to know that, somewhere, her father and her government would see the bigger things and know it was her. She would be gone again before they could make it there anyways.

When he told her to take a break, she sighed, giving the cube one last, longing look. "This cube IS the only thing in the entire galaxy. The only interesting thing, anyways..." She mumbled, frustrated. Finally she placed the cube back on the edge of her console and walked away from it - not without one last glance in it's direction. "Shall we make something to eat, then?" She asked, curious if he had already eaten his meals for the day.
