Down by the water's edge, Suicune stood with Shiisa. The legendary dog reached out with a slender leg and placed it atop the water. Ripples danced from its paw and left the water rolling gentle in their wake. It stepped forward, moving out onto the water.
Shiisa whined from the shore, unable to follow. Suicune looked back and shook its head, telling Shiisa to wait. It turned back to its task, no longer looking when Shiisa barked once, upset.

Suicune was no more than forty feet onto the lake before a great splash sounded from behind. Turning, Suicune saw the great dog's head poking above the water, creamy mane clinging to her head.
A look of endearance passed across Suicune's face. Exasperation flickered as well. Suicune turned, and in one bound closed the distance between itself and the Arcanine.

Suicune helped Shiisa ashore but then leaped out across the water before the wet dog began to furiously shake her coat. When Shiisa finished drying herself and realized Suicune once again stood upon the water she began to whine. This time, however, she stopped and sat on the shore, accepting the wait she would have to endure.
Satisfied Shiisa would no longer try to follow where she could not go, Suicune turned and began running to the lake's center.

It did not take long for Suicune to return. It carried a blue slate in its mouth, cool to the touch like a wet rock, though its surface was dry. Suicune laid it down in the grass and Shiisa sniffed it, considering the plate with interest. Suicune lifted the plate and put it back in its mane. It had recognized Shiisa had the amazing potential to make use of the plate despite her fire typing. But it was not yet time. The plate would go to the human child, for now.
The "human child" in question was currently quite unaware of the find Suicune had made, nor its subsequent decisions. Arezu was content to lay on her back, gazing at the clouds while one hand rested on Ai's side.
Ai shifted carefully, craning her neck to get a look at Arezu's face. The girl had finally fallen asleep. Cringing, Ai slipped from underneath the girl's fingers as best she could. She looked back, taking in the sight of her trainer. The warmth of Arezu's hand followed her the entire way to the trees.
A man waited in the brush, hidden in the shadow of the tree. Ai avoided his gaze, choosing to look out across the lake in the direction opposite where Arezu lie resting. "So you decided to grace me with your presence, huh?" Ai's ears flicked and she almost looked behind herself. The voice was not the one she had expected.
"I know you can talk," the man said, voice matter-of-fact but damning all the same. Ai stared across the meadow. What did you come here for? Her clear voice echoed in the mind of the man. She was calm, but there was a hardness there too.
The man detected her feelings. "So it's true then. You've joined her for real?" It wasn't a question. Ai nodded. She heard him shift in the tree. "...I see."
"You've grown quite a bit." Ai's tail flicked. "Did you come here just to say that?" He chuckled. "It always was hard to beat around the bush with you, Ava." She finally turned to look at him. It's Ai now.
"Is that so?" He leaned back, dark hair covering his eyes. You've let your hair grow long. Ai had gone back to watching the lake, so he allowed himself a smile at that. She may have found a new home, but perhaps she hadn't cut her ties yet. "Well, you know I really do like it this way. And it's such work to cut it." He knew she liked it that way. As an Eevee, she'd always been one to nibble on the longer strands.
The leaves rustled as his stood. Ai turned. You're leaving? she questioned him. He looked past her, gazing towards the lake. With a start, Ai realized he was looking in Arezu's direction. "I came by to see you and Adem. Though the little one's busy, I guess. It's good that he finally made a friend." He looked to Ai's face for encouragement, but found none there.
"Either way, it's time I left. Be careful, Ava. The world is a dangerous place for those such as us." He turned to leave. Wait. Does this mean...that the plan... He smiled, a mixture of tease and charm. "Now now Ava. You know it's more exciting this way." With those last words, he disappeared into the trees.

Ai stood and shook herself, not really sure what to think of the encounter. As she padded pack through the long grass towards Arezu, she tried to decipher his last statement. She got the sense they would be safe, for a time. But she should make no mistake: the mission's goal had not been abandoned, even if the mission itself had been.
Taking a place by her trainer's side once again, she looked down to the shore where Shion stood with Hakuren and Raphael. Adem and Avalon... it had been so long since we'd heard those names. She smiled warmly at Arezu and curled up in the crook of her outstretched arm. I think Shion suits him better.

Arezu woke up not long after Ai had returned. Of course, she had no idea the Espeon had wandered at all. She could see the rest of her pokemon in one way or another down by the lake. Shiisa and Suicune were mere specks against the green backdrop across the water.
"Jezz, Suicune, huh? That's pretty nuts..." If Suicune was Shiisa's mom or something, which Arezu wasn't even sure was possible, she wondered if Suicune planned to take the Arcanine with it. But then, it wouldn't have allowed Arezu to capture it. "That was not what I expected from a legendary at all..." But if Suicune had adopted Shiisa, Arezu figured it couldn't be all that bad.
Since it had been a while, Arezu pulled out her berry pots, which held five small Lum trees in them. She'd picked them up in Johto during the around the world run, but only managed to try planting anything a few days ago. It looked like she'd managed to multiply her lum berries four-fold. That was plenty for now, though it would be annoying to have to carry the pots around when she wasn't growing anything.
For some reason, there was a stone stuck down in the soil of one of the pots. It was an eviolite, so Arezu wasn't going to complain. Hakuren would appreciate it, to keep him safe, even though he probably wasn't going to be fighting much anymore. The little guy didn't seem like he wanted to ever evolve. Probably likes being all cute and cuddly too much. Arezu snorted. If that was the case, he'd definitely never admit to it.
