Union Cave is a cave located in the Johto region. The main cave divides Route 32 from Route 33, though two other exits in the basement levels of the cave lead to the Ruins of Alph. A wild Lapras can also be encountered deep in the cave every Friday.

The Pokemon in the area were weaker than he cared to waste his time with. He did need to grow his Nidoran but he would wait until he was at Azalea to do that. If he couldn't find these trainers he knew that they would have to pass through eventually. Working his way through the cave towards the Town on the other side he was hoping that he wasn't wasting his time in pursuit of some mystery hunch.

As soon as Natalia had gotten free of the pokemon center in Violet, she simply couldn't contain her excitement. "You promised me a race mister, so you better be on your mark, and get set, because here we go!" Natalia beamed back at Aiden, breaking off into a run. No matter how much it hurt, she willed herself to run, and as fast as she possibly could. "Fey!!!" Nyomii cried out in disapproval. "That girl is going to break her leg again if she keeps this up..." The Espeon grumbled, attempting to run after her trainer, but for a cripple, she sure ran fast, and Nyomii was not made for physical exertion. Huffing and puffing after a couple of sprints, Nyomii gave in and called in some reinforcements, willing Calliope to come out of her pokeball. The Altaria popped out with a joyous cry and watched curiously as Natalia continued her sprint towards Union Cave. "Calliope, if you could be a dear and fly after Fey and make sure she doesn't get hurt.....?" Nyomii asked telepathically. "Mhm~ Don't worry ma cherie, I will watch over her." The dragon fluffed her cottony feathers and took off after Natalia, chirping happily as the two raced. "Haha!~ Calliope are you going to race too?" Natalia asked the Altaria. "But of course~ Though you may way to ralentir un peu mon précieux une. Your leg is still not well non?" Natalia sighed and slowed down a little bit. Her leg was throbbing, but it needed the exercise. Either way, she reached Union Cave first, letting her eyes adjust to the dim lighting. "Huh.... I know it's a cave and all, but it's still really dark..." Natalia mused, pausing a moment to let Aiden, Aria, and Nyomii to catch up. Calliope gave a few quick nods in agreement, hovering close to her trainer and humming nervously. She would never admit it openly, but Calliope was actually somewhat afraid of the dark, Natalia noticed though, and gently stroked the Altaria's feathers. "Hey, don't worry~ Caves are pretty fun. Look; " Natalia cupped her hands by her mouth, took in a deep breath and then shouted a loud--"HELLOOOO?!?!?!" She then paused, listening to the echo of her voice reverberating off of the walls with a light giggle. Calliope seemed pretty interested at that, letting out a loud chirp to test the echo effect and chortling with pleased laughter as she listened to the sound bouncing off the inner cave walls.
The Altaria however, gave a shrill squawk of alarm as something seemed to be burrowing underneath them. "Eek! What is that?!" She chirped worriedly and hovered a bit higher in the air. "Wh-what?? What's wrong?" Natalia asked, following Calliope's fearful gaze to the ground as a lump of earth began to rise, and then soon, a bug pokemon of some sort popped it's fuzzy little head out, making light chittering noises and snapping it's pincers. "Hm....?" Natalia drew closer to inspect. "That's an interesting pokemon.... I've never seen anything like this before." Natalia thought aloud. The curious little creature blinked it's eyes at Natalia and cocked its head to one side, chittering curiously. "You're interesting too~ What kind of pokemon are you?" Natalia chuckled, reaching out to pet the little bug's head. "Er.. Well... I'm not a pokemon, I'm a human." The bug chittered happily as her head was pet and then suddenly wiggled all the way out of the ground, revealing a slightly elongated body and a few more legs, but still very small. She crawled up onto Natalia's shoulder bravely, glancing around and snapping its pincers as if to taste or sniff the air. "Wow, you're big!" She skittered up into Natalia's hair and reappeared on top of her head, and Natalia laughed. "Comfortable up there?" She asked jokingly, but the bug didn't seem to understand her sarcasm. "Yes~" She curled up atop Natalia's head. "Your hair is fluffy! I like it. I'm gonna stay with you, okay?" The bug asserted promptly. It was quite the suggestion, but Natalia wouldn't deny the bug's company. "Well I suppose I wouldn't mind you staying with me, but just who, and what, are you?" The bug shook itself off. "I'm Terra. I'm a Larverra~""Well it's nice to meet you Terra." Natalia chuckled.

✦ ✦After leaving the Pokemon Center for the last time in Violet City, their company wasted no time in heading out for Union Cave. Once they were through there, Azalea Town was on the other side, though the cave would be a bit difficult to traverse because of how dark it was. Aiden smiled as he saw how excited Fey was, clearly enjoying her newfound freedom from the wheelchair she had been confined to for the past several days. He looked towards her as she spoke up, reminding him that he had promised her a race and that he better be on his mark. ” Ah, Fey, don’t you think that…?” he started to say, rather concerned of if she should be running while her leg was still recovering. But he didn’t get to finish before she took off, sprinting in the direction of Union Cave. Chuckling softly and shaking his head, Aiden quickly ran after her, hoping that she wouldn’t hurt herself in the process. Aria’s ears went up in alarm as Nyomii shouted after Fey, saying that she was going to break her leg again.” Oh dear… she had better be careful!”the Delphox agreed, moving to run after their trainers. It seemed that Nyomii wasn’t quite capable of keeping up, however, and had to call in reinforcement by means of Calliope to keep an eye on Fey to make sure she didn’t hurt herself.” No worries, Mimi, I’ve got you covered~”Aria said with a light chuckle, gently scooping the Espeon into her arms to save her from tiring herself out even more as she kept running. As Aiden and Aria ran after Fey towards the cave, Thalia holding onto him for dear life the whole while, he caught sight of the cave just as the girl and her Altaria entered inside. Slowing down slightly, he entered the cave a few moments behind, pausing for a moment to catch his breath as he grinned towards Fey. ” Heh, well it looks like you win~” he said with a soft chuckle, she was quite fast for someone who was still recovering from an injury, he had to admit. Aria huffed softly, wiping her brow a bit as she gently set Nyomii down onto the ground by their trainers’ feet.” You know, you really should be more careful. Too much strenuous exercise isn’t good if your leg is still recovering; we wouldn’t want to risk you breaking it again now, do we?”Aria scolded lightly, shaking her head before giving a sly grin towards Fey,” Unless you’d like to be cooped back up at the Violet City Pokemon Center for another week or even longer~”Aiden gave a small smile towards the Delphox, before taking a look at their current surroundings. Union Cave was fairly dark, though thankfully it wasn’t night outside otherwise it would be essentially pitch black… He heard someone humming close by, and glanced over to see that it was Calliope, who seemed to be a bit afraid of the dark as she hovered close to Fey. He smiled as Fey attempted to help comfort the Altaria, saying that caves could be pretty fun as she demonstrated the echo effect, the Altaria following suit as she chirped loudly, laughing lightly as the noise echoed off the walls. Thalia was looking around nervously, immediately pressing closer to Aiden and hiding her face in his coat. The Sylveon had never really liked dark places, even though Union Cave was nowhere near as creepy as the spooky library back at that mansion where the ball was held. Still, the idea of being in a dark place just scared her out of her wits, which was primarily the reason why she didn’t like being in her Pokeball. Aiden smiled, gently stroking the Sylveon’s soft pink fur and scratching her behind the ears. ” It’ll be okay, Thalia~ We won’t be in here too long, and with Aria’s flaming wand we’ll have a constant source of light to guide us through~” he soothed gently, the Sylveon looking up towards him and giving him a small smile. However, Calliope’s squawk of alarm made Thalia cringe and instinctively huddle closer to Aiden, the blonde-haired boy looking over towards Fey and the Altaria to see what the matter was. Sure enough, it looked like something was moving underneath the ground below, which revealed itself to be some sort of odd looking brown furry bug. Was that a new Pokemon? Aiden didn’t recall seeing a Pokemon before that looked like that… Before he could ask Fey if she knew what it was, his attention was drawn as he could’ve sworn he felt light fingers playfully ruffle his hair.” Are you afraid of the dark? Heeheee~”giggled a soft, high-pitched female voice, almost like a little girl. Thalia shivered with fear as her eyes cast around for the source of the voice. ” Who’s there?” Aiden asked, holding the Sylveon close as he gazed into the darkness, wondering if there was a ghost nearby, ” Aria, do you sense anything?” After the whole experience at the ball, the blonde had more or less become a bit paranoid when it came to Ghost-types, considering that the maid he had encountered in the library turned out to be a devilish Mismagius in disguise. Pulling out the wand from her tail, the wood catching alight from the friction of the gesture, Aria examined the area around them.” I’m sensing a presence, really close by… There! To your right, Aiden!”the Delphox shouted, pointing at the area in particular with her free hand. Right on cue, a Gengar materialized in the exact position to the right of the boy, sticking her tongue out and making a face as she waved her hands about in a very animated fashion.” BOOGA BOOGA BOOGA~!!!”she howled in a creepy voice, trying to hide her giggling. Aiden couldn’t help but chuckle a bit at the Gengar’s attempt to scare him, but Thalia yipped in terror and quickly hid her face away as she shook like a leaf in a hurricane. The Ghost-type paused when she noticed the Sylveon cowering away, a frown crossing her face as she floated closer to her.” A-Ah, I’m sorry! I mean, I was just trying to spook you guys for fun, but I didn’t think that you’d react that badly…”the Gengar cried out, the scary face she’d been making seconds ago disappearing as an apologetic look took its place,” Please don’t cry! I won’t do it again, I promise!”Aiden gave a small smile, gently scratching Thalia behind the ears to try to calm her down. ” It’s alright, Thalia… She says she’s sorry and she won’t do it again… It’s all good now, right?” he assured her, hoping that she hadn’t been spooked that badly by the Gengar’s scare. The Sylveon looked up towards him, then towards the Gengar, still shivering a little, but she gave a small smile and nodded in response.” G-Good…”she said softly, feeling somewhat glad that the Gengar wouldn’t pull a trick like that again. The Ghost-type’s face brightened a bit at that, feeling glad that everything was good now and that it looked like she hadn’t caused too much trouble with her spooky shenanigans.” Hehe, sorry about that whole scene and all, spooking someone isn’t really the best way to make a first impression, but I just couldn’t help myself~”she chimed lightly with a wide smile,” But it just gets so lonely around here, you know? It’s no fun when no one else wants to play with me because they think I’m creepy and whatnot, and it doesn’t help that I’m the only Ghost-type in this whole cave…” Aiden gave the Gengar a sympathetic look, knowing what it felt like to be alone and not have any friends to play or hang around with. She actually reminded him a lot of his old Gengar, Jessibelle, who loved to play pranks and spook people for laughs, but was actually really nice and loved helping others. She had been almost like an adopted little sister of sorts, come to think of it... He tried to not think on it too much, though, knowing that dwelling on the past would bring back unwelcome feelings that he wanted to keep as far away as possible. ” Well you could always come with us~ You’ll get to make plenty of friends while you’re traveling with Fey and I,” he offered with a warm smile, wanting to provide a way to remedy the playful Ghost-type’s loneliness.” Really?! Aiden couldn’t help but laugh a bit at the Ghost-type’s antics as he set her Pokeball on his belt with the rest, Annabelle was certainly going to be an interesting addition to his team. ” So, shall we get going then?” he asked as he smiled towards Fey and her new Larverra, gesturing towards the tunnel in front of them that lead deeper into the cave. Just as he spoke, a red beam of light shot out from one of the Pokeballs on his belt of its own accord. Within seconds, Kaizer appeared with a huff and a flash of light, looking quite a bit different now thanks to his recently acquired Mega Stone. The Mega Salamence snorted softly, stretching himself out before turning his gaze towards Aiden.” You know, you haven’t let me out for quite a while now, just thought I’d get some fresh air,”Kaizer said, shaking his head a bit before glancing around the cave,” Just where are we, exactly?”Not having been out of his ball in a long while, the Salamence was a bit wary of his surroundings. Dark places never really sat well with him, especially after the events at the ball, so the darkness of the cave was a bit suspicious in his eyes. ” Oh hey, Kaizer, glad you could join us~” Aiden said with a smile, gently patting the Salamence’s neck, ” I guess if you want to be out of your ball for a while, then that’s fine~ We do owe you quite a bit for everything you did~” It was thanks to Kaizer that they had been spared from a potentially fatal drop when a zombified Nurse Joy’s Xerneas used Psychic on all of the trainers during that huge zombie battle. Annabelle seemed excited at seeing another potential friend, whirling around the Salamence cheerfully.” Heya Kaizer! Nice to meetcha! I’m Annabelle, I’m gonna be a new member of the team from here on out~”greeted the Gengar, her eyes glittering with childish delight. The Salamence blinked slightly at Annabelle, feeling a bit wary around the Ghost-type even though she seemed friendly enough. Ever since the ball, Kaizer had more or less grown a bit of a dislike for ghost Pokemon in general, though he supposed that Annabelle wasn’t that bad as far as most Ghost-types he’d come across. Giving a small smile, Kaizer dipped his head in greeting towards the Gengar, feeling that it was only right to welcome her since she was a part of the team now. Aria chuckled softly, nodding towards the others as she held her flaming wand tightly in one hand.” Shall we be on our way then? We won’t get any closer to Azalea by just dilly-dallying around like Miltanks in a flower field now, will we?”she asked with a grin, figuring that it was best that they get a move on. The cloudy skies outside made it difficult to tell the exact time of day it was now, but if Aria could hazard a guess, she would say it was about high noon. It would likely be in their best interests that they not linger for too long in Union Cave, the cave could get really dark once it became night time after all.✦ ✦

As he carried on through the cave he was stopped in his tracks. As he paused his graceful walk he turned his head to the side and smirked under his mask. The echoing of voices coming from further behind in the cave tipped him of to the presence of a pair of trainers, a male and a female. The woman's voice rang out as she yelled hello. He had no plan on answering but he wasn't about these two trainers through without a fight. He was way too eager for a good battle.
He was nearing the end of the cave, and the entrance was in sight, thi would be the place where he would run into these trainers. Turning, his booming voice echoed back through the cave. "Your aimless wandering has brought you before King! Prepare yourselves fools! You shall not pass!" His voice, already metallic from the echo of his mask was further echoed through the walls in the cave. If he could hear them they would definitely hear him. Hoping that they wouldn't be too much longer he awaited them at the exit of the cave. His figure silhouetted from the fading light of the outdoors.

Nyomii gave Aria a tired smile of thanks as the Delphox picked her up so that they could hurry along to catch up with Natalia. She just wasn't built for running around everywhere, she was a creature of the mind, not the body. Technically Aria wasn't really built for it either but she had more endurance from the hustle and bustle of the Pokemon Center. As they finally caught up at the caves entrance, Natalia was clearly pleased with her win, though as Aria suggested she needed to be more careful unless she wanted to spend another week of recovery at the Pokemon Center, Natalia immediately grimaced and rejected the idea. "N-no way....! At least take me to the one in Azalea if I do, that way I can have a different change in scenery...." She insisted. Poor Thalia was practically cowering in Aiden's arms because of the dark, but Natalia expected it of the Sylveon, it was already sort of common knowledge that she didn't like the dark, hence why Aiden usually kept her out of her Pokeball. Something else seemed to take notice as well, and Natalia whirled around as a Gengar jumped out at Thalia to scare her. Well the ghost was certainly successful, Thalia recoiled and shivered violently against Aiden, absolutely terrified, and Natalia puffed up with anger."Hey!" Natalia would have ripped the Gengar a new one for scaring Thalia like that, but it seemed the Gengar was aware of it's mistake and immediately began to apologize profusely. Natalia closed her mouth and remained quiet for now, since it seemed like the Gengar was sincere, but she looked over the ghost with a warning glare, holding her to the promise that she wouldn't do it again. In contrast to the trickster actions she had made earlier, it seemed this Gengar was particularly friendly, and delighted when Aiden offered to allow her to come with him on his journey. "Well I suppose that's one way to join a team." Nyomii chuckled as the Gengar 'booped' her pokeball and caught herself. With that handled, Aiden asked if they should get going again, but then Kaizer popped out of his pokeball, complaining that Aiden had kept him inside of his pokeball for too long. Not that they minded Kaizer's presence, and to be perfectly honest, Kaizer could probably do whatever he wanted right now and Aiden nor Natalia would stop him. They owed him a lot of debt from the valor he displayed at the Halloween Ball. Annabelle introduced herself to her new teammate and Calliope wasted no time meeting Kaizer either. "Ah!~ I didn't realize there was another dragon amongst our little group. Il est agréable de vous rencontrer Kaizer~" Calliope chirped, though she couldn't see very well when Aira redirected her torch wand and ended up bumping into the wall. "Oof...! Goodness, I cannot see a thing in this cave..." Calliope shook herself off and landed on Kaizer's back, making herself comfortable there by fluffing her feathers and humming happily.
Aria suggested they keep moving forward, lest they never reach Azalea. Natalia nodded in agreement, however, soon another voice called out to them, and Natalia blinked in confusion, unaware that anyone else had been in the cave. She advanced to see who had issued the strange challenge to find a masked man in a billowing cape, the one who'd dubbed himself as King. "What do you mean we can't pass...?!" Natalia scowled. What was this guy's deal? Natalia sized the masked fellow up with a scowl and spoke sternly. "Look, King, whoever you are, I don't have time to play games right now, and I don't know what you think gives you the right to block the way to Azalea, but I'm not exactly very interested in negotiating with mysterious people in masks, so I'm gonna say this one time, and one time only....." She took a pokeball from her belt and struck a battle pose. "Move." Natalia said curtly. Concealed identities made her nervous, particularly ones that challenged her out of the blue. She had her deranged father and Team Void potentially on her tail, she wasn't about to take any chances.

✦ ✦Everyone soon made it to the cave, Aiden running to catch up with Fey while Aria picked up Nyomii and carried her along with her to save her fellow Psychic-type any further fatigue. The Delphox wasn’t built to really handle traveling long distances at a quick pace either, but she had decent enough stamina from her experience with the business of the Pokemon Center that she was able to run for quite a bit longer. Upon reaching the cave, Aiden gladly congratulated Fey on her win, though he knew Aria had a point when the Delphox spoke up and warned her about pushing herself too much or else she would end up breaking her leg again. Fey instantly grimaced at Aria’s mention of having to stay in the Pokemon Center for another week or so, the Delphox grinning a bit slyly as the girl adamantly rejected the idea and insisted that if that happened, they should at least take her to the one in Azalea since it would provide a welcome change of scenery.” Mhmmm, didn’t think so~”Aria hummed with a soft chuckle, pulling out her flaming wand so that they could have a bit of light to guide them through the darkness of the cave. Aiden’s attention was then directed towards Thalia, the poor Sylveon cowering against him as she gazed nervously towards the darkness ahead of them. He had come to understand well enough that dark places were one of Thalia’s greatest fears, which was likely the reason she never wanted to go into her Pokeball. The Sylveon had been very grateful thus far that Aiden respected her wishes, and he tried to assure her that they had nothing to worry about, especially since Aria could provide a light source for them. However, what he hadn’t expected was for a Gengar to pop out at them seemingly out of nowhere, making a scary face in an attempt to spook them. Aiden was more or less unfazed by the display as he simply chuckled and smiled, but Thalia had been thoroughly frightened by the scare as she instantly huddled closer to her trainer and hid her face away. Fey was not pleased at all that the Gengar had scared the Sylveon so badly as she shouted at the Ghost-type, but the Gengar realized her error almost immediately and began to apologize profusely. Thankfully, the matter was resolved quite easily, though Annabelle recoiled a little at the warning glare that Fey was shooting her way.” H-Hey, c’mon, relax! I promised I wouldn’t spook the little dear again, and I’m a ghost of her word,”the Gengar hastily reassured, holding her hands up in a defending gesture as she flashed an apologetic smile towards the girl. Sure she could’ve opted out of spooking them for the sake of it, but the chance had been there and she had never been one to let the opportunity pass her by. Rocky first impressions aside, Annabelle was actually quite childish and friendly overall, but she was quite lonely from spending so long in this dark cave with no friends. She was all too delighted when Aiden offered her to join his team, and happily captured herself as she ‘booped’ her Pokeball with a finger. The Gengar grinned widely at Nyomii’s comment about it being one way to join a team, and directed her attention towards Aiden as he asked if they should get going then. However, before they could start moving along, another Pokemon made its presence onto the scene in the form of the now Mega-Evolved Kaizer, who voiced his qualms about being cooped up in his ball for a long time and wanting to get some fresh air. Of course, neither Aiden nor Fey had any objections to the Salamence’s company, knowing that he could do whatever he wanted for the most part. They truly owed him a lot for everything he had done for them back at the ball, it was thanks to him that they were both alive and well right now… Aiden grimaced slightly as he remembered the sensation of being lifted up by a powerful Psychic attack, the rush of wind and the feeling of dread as they were dropped several feet towards the hard marble flooring below… Never again did he want to experience anything like that, once was more than enough to leave enough of an impression… More emotional scars to add to the ones he already had, why not? Shaking his head, the blonde haired boy smiled as Annabelle was quick to introduce herself to the Salamence, followed by Calliope who seemed delighted at meeting a fellow Dragon-type. Kaizer gave a small smile and a polite nod to the Gengar who was now one of his new teammates, and turned his attention towards Calliope as she announced her delight at meeting another dragon and saying something in French. The Salamence couldn’t understand French very well, but he assumed that she had said something along the lines of ‘nice to meet you’.” It is very much a pleasure to meet you as well, Calliope, right?”he reciprocated, hoping that he had remembered her name correctly since he had only heard it mentioned a few times before. It seemed that the Altaria couldn’t see very well in the dark, and Kaizer grimaced a bit when she suddenly bumped into a wall when Aria redirected her torch wand. Thankfully she didn’t seem too hurt or anything as she came down to rest on the Salamence’s back, nestling herself there as she hummed happily. Kaizer didn’t seem to mind that much, figuring that it wouldn’t hurt too much to let her ride on his back for a time while they traversed this cave. In the meantime, it seemed that the group was finally ready to get moving as Aria suggested that they not dally around here too long, or else it would be night long before they got to Azalea and likely ended up stuck in the cave until morning. Aiden nodded in agreement as Fey did the same. ” Yeah, let’s go,” he said with a smile, turning to move further into the cave when suddenly a strange voice called out at them from a little ways ahead. It sounded metallic or something of the sort, as if the speaker was talking through an iron helmet or something, announcing that their travels had brought them before King and that they will not pass. Aiden quickly followed after Fey as she advanced forward into the cave, their Pokemon following closely behind them as Aria held out her torch wand to light the way. Sure enough, there was someone else in the cave with them, a masked man decked out in a billowing cape and clothes that made him look like some sort of super villain. Was this guy the ‘King’ fellow who had been challenging them and saying that they couldn’t pass? Fey was already on the case as she scowled at ‘King’, demanding him to tell them what he’d meant by they couldn’t pass. She went on in a stern tone, saying that she didn’t have time to play games and she didn’t know why King believed he had the right to block their path to Azalea. Really, what was this guy’s deal anyways? And why was he challenging them of all people? Aiden nodded as Fey went on to say that she wasn’t interested in negotiating with mysterious people in masks, and demanded that the mysterious man known as ‘King’ move out of their way. Sensing that they weren’t going to get out of this that easy, Aiden reached towards his belt as well, prepared to grab a Pokeball as he leveled a warning glare in King’s direction. ” Listen, King, we’re just two trainers who want nothing more than to continue on with our journey. We’ve been stuck in Violet City for nearly a week now and we’re eager to get going to Azalea as quickly and efficiently as possible,” he said, keeping his voice calm and level as he pulled a Pokeball off of his belt and struck a battle pose alongside Fey, ” We don’t want any trouble, really, but if you continue to insist on blocking our path like this then I’m afraid you leave us with very few options. If it’s a battle you want, then you sure as hell got one!” The fact that he had no idea of who this man was set Aiden on edge, maybe King was another agent sent by Void to kill him off for good… Or maybe he was someone from a different organization altogether. Either way, it was a risk that Aiden couldn’t afford to take, and was prepared for a battle if King’s intention had been to challenge them. Sensing a battle coming on, Kaizer stood by the boy with Calliope in tow, the Salamence growling lowly and glaring sharply at King. Something told him that this guy was bad news, and he stood by to protect his trainer at any and all costs, even though he probably didn’t look as intimidating as he’d hoped considering the Altaria on his back. Aria stood firmly by Aiden, narrowing her eyes towards King as she sized him up. Had this guy been intentionally waiting for them to come this way the entire time? That was the sense she was getting… Where had he even come from? She didn’t recall seeing or sensing anyone like him back in Violet City, unless he had come here from another region entirely, or maybe outer space at that given his getup… For whatever reason this guy had chosen Fey and Aiden in particular, it was clear that he was looking for trouble, and he was going to get exactly that if he didn’t move his caped behind out of the way.✦ ✦

A pair of trainers who were more than he had hoped for. They both looked like they were eager to continue on their journey. This would no doubt be their first benchmark battle. If they had defeated the gym in Violet then they were no doubt sitting at about the same level he was. Unprepared to battle both he sent one arm flying out to the side, he would be able to handle it if he had to without concern. It would be entertaining.
He only had six Pokemon so he had to be careful with how he rationed his time in this battle. But he was confident he would be able to fend them off. When it came to pairs of trainers fighting the norm was to have them choose three Pokemon each, but this was no official battle and the pair could easily cheat. King adjusted his glove and chuckled, "For I too am on a journey, you seem to be forgetting that. Your eagerness to battle a strange trainer intrigues me, for all you know I could be a menacing villain, or a champion, yet you act so boldly. I love it! And for our paths to intersect at the union cave, fitting." His speech was elegant and charismatic, he commanded attention when he spoke and this was no different. Reaching back behind the cape he snorted.

Natalia didn't really like letting Aria win like this, but she had won, and she knew it, judging by the sly grin on her face and her little comment on how she thought Natalia would react that way. Natalia closed her eyes and internalized her annoyance with a light sigh, distracted somewhat by the sudden appearance of Annabelle, the friendly-ish Gengar as she scared the fur off of Thalia, effectively pissing Natalia off. The brunette gave Annabelle a sharp look, even after the ghost had apologized for her behavior, and Annabelle insisted she was a ghost of her word, meaning she would keep her promise not to scare Thalia again as she held her hands up in defense. "Good. I'll hold you to it then." Natalia said curtly. She wasn't quite so trusting of the Gengar just yet, to Natalia, actions spoke louder than words. She would have her eye on Annabelle for a while, just to make sure she actually kept her promise.
Calliope grinned as Kaizer correctly guessed her name. "Oui~ That is correct! How did you come across my name? I feel a bit bad, not knowing about you when you clearly know at least a little about me." Calliope fluffed her feathers a bit more and resumed her humming, though for a moment, it was interrupted as a voice at the other end of the cave called out to them in a challenging tone. "Oh my.... " Calliope frowned, wondering what sort of trouble they were about to get into. It was so awfully dark in the cave, and Calliope disliked confrontation if it could be avoided. "Perhaps we should just try to find another way around...?" The Altaria suggested softly, but Natalia was already pressing on to seek out this challenger, apparently not having heard her. "Ooohh.... " Calliope sighed, resuming her humming again, louder now in an attempt to calm her nerves as the group followed to encounter a strange masked figure.
Natalia had been ready to fight, she didn't want to, it was an inconvenience,it wasted her time, but she would do it if this King character was going to stand in the way. She'd fully expected Aiden to try and talk her out of it, to try and convince her that they could just leave and find another way to Azalea, but much to her surprise, Aiden took a battle position next to her. Natalia looked him over hesitantly, a little embarrassed by just how surprised and... Well.... Happy she was. "You... You're fighting with me....?" She asked curiously. She'd never seen Aiden act so boldly, not since the day he'd fought for his life against her all those years ago, a memory she repressed repugnantly due to the two psychics beside them. Natalia could practically feel Nyomii trying to dig it back up as Natalia continued to bury it further down vehemently. "Nyomii, get the hell out of my head..." Natalia snapped, growling the words in her thoughts. Nyomii didn't respond, not wanting to admit to her actions if Natalia didn't press the accusations further, but Natalia didn't need to, the pressure she had felt earlier waned, and that was proof enough.
She would have words with the Espeon later, for now, she refocused her attention on King as he commended them for accepting his challenge so boldly. He was right though, he could be a villain, a hero, or just another trainer looking for entertainment by playing up the dramatics in what could have been commonplace. If King got his kicks by wearing his getup and purposefully setting everyone on edge, then more power to him, but Natalia was just annoyed. "Leave the theatrics to the coordinators Tuxedo Mask, this is the real world." Natalia huffed. Finally it seemed they were getting down to brass tacks as King let out his first two pokemon of choice. Natalia hadn't really been expecting to go into a double battle, but she wasn't opposed to it either. It would make things interesting certainly, and she would play along with the common rules, she would only choose from three pokemon on her team, Aiden would probably do so as well, but if King had any funny business going on, Natalia wouldn't hesitate to break the rules. First King sent out a Scyther and a Froslass, interesting choices. Natalia expanded the pokeball in her hand. "Let's go Blaze!" Natalia called, the Quilava popping out of her pokeball in a flash of light. She shook herself off, embers scattering slightly onto the cave floor before she ignited her mohawk and tail. "Ready when you are champ!" Blaze grinned, clearly pumped for the battle and ready to get the show on the road.

✦ ✦Aria simply gave a small smile at Fey’s annoyance at letting her win, the Delphox saying nothing more on the matter as she enjoyed her little victory for now. There were other matters to deal with, it seemed as a Gengar named Annabelle made her appearance on the scene by practically scaring Thalia half to death. While the others seemed to take it fairly well and helped to resolve the little mishap, Fey wasn’t quite convinced when the Gengar promised that she wouldn’t scare the Sylveon again. Annabelle hadn’t meant to spook Thalia that badly, but she supposed that the girl had good reason to be cross with her for what she had done. The Gengar grimaced a bit at Fey’s sharp glare and curt tone as she said that she would hold her to that promise, but gave a sheepish smile and nodded in response. It seemed that she would have to gain this girl’s trust first, which she guessed she could deal with for now. If anything, at least the girl hadn’t sent one of her Pokemon to start walloping the Ghost-type as punishment, so it was a bit of an improvement in some regards… Nonetheless, it looked like the group was ready to get going now after Kaizer had made his appearance on the scene, and they started moving along deeper into the cave. Kaizer chuckled softly when Calliope seemed pleased with him guessing her name, confirming his suspicions that he was indeed right and asking how he had come across it to begin with. The Salamence gave a small grin as the Altaria went on to say that she felt somewhat bad, since he knew quite a bit about her when she knew almost nothing about him.” I believe I had heard it mentioned about once or twice…”Kaizer answered, the smile fading from his muzzle as a thoughtful look replaced it,” It was back where we had first met our trainers, in Cherrygrove I think, but we hadn’t gotten to officially meet each other until now.”It was then that everyone heard the voice calling out to them from a bit deeper inside the cave, the source of which was revealed to be some man wearing a mask and some sort of outfit that made him mysterious and suspicious. Kaizer frowned slightly at that, wondering why this guy was intentionally blocking their way to get to Azalea. Whoever this ‘King’ guy was supposed to be, the Salamence had a bad feeling about him the moment he laid eyes on the fellow. Calliope was trying to dissuade everyone from confrontation as she suggested that they find another way around, but it didn’t seem to work well as Fey continued pressing on and the others followed. The Altaria clearly quite nervous about it, Kaizer could hear her starting to hum louder than before in an attempt to calm herself. The Salamence would’ve preferred to avoid confronting King as well, but with the way things were going right now, it looked like Fey and Aiden were prepared to fight their way past this guy if they had to. For now, Kaizer stood to the side of his trainer, staring the masked man in front of them down as he growled low and deep in warning. Aiden sighed softly to himself, the last thing he wanted to have to deal with right now was more inconveniences when they were clearly eager to get to Azalea Town and fight Bugsy for his badge. But it seemed that confrontation was more or less unavoidable if this King character continued to insist on not letting them pass. Why was this guy here in the first place? Who was he, exactly? Under any other circumstances, Aiden would have tried to discourage a fight and convinced Fey that there was surely another way around since King seemed quite adamant on blocking their path this way. But he was never one to take his chances, especially when it came to mysterious masked men like this guy. Who wasn’t to say that this ‘King’ fellow was an associate of Team Void? Aiden had had one close call with them so far when they had sent that assassin after him, if this King guy really wished to fight them, it was a risk that he would have to take. Fey seemed quite surprised when the blonde-haired boy took a battle position next to her, Pokeball in his hand as he prepared to throw down. He gave a warm smile as she asked in a curious tone if he was fighting with her. ” Of course~ It’s what a good friend would do in a situation like this, right?” he asked with a soft chuckle, nodding towards King, ” If it’s a challenge he wants, then he’ll have to take on both of us!” In all honesty, Aiden had never really done a double battle before, or at least not one where he fought alongside a friend. Still, he had no idea of how strong King’s Pokemon were, and there was no way he was going to let Fey handle this alone… Focusing back on the imminent battle, he looked back towards King, who commended them on their eagerness to challenge a strange trainer like himself. He did have a point, they had no idea of who he really was apart from his name, or at the very least an alias that he was likely using in place of his real one. For all they knew, he could be a villain, a hero, or just another trainer looking for a good challenge. He seemed fairly impressed by their boldness, and commented on how fitting it was for their paths to cross at a place like Union Cave. Aiden gave a small grin at that, but Fey on the other hand was less than impressed by King’s theatrical display as she told him to leave that kind of stuff to the coordinators. Nonetheless, it was time for the battle to commence. If Aiden remembered the rules of a double battle correctly, he would choose three Pokemon from his team on hand to battle, as would Fey since the both of them were fighting together. Of course, there was the slight chance that King might try to cheat, in which case Aiden would be prepared and keep an eye on him if rules had to be broken to get this guy off their backs. He watched as King sent out his first two Pokemon of choice, a Froslass and a Scyther. An Ice and Ghost-type paired with a Bug and Flying-type, quite an interesting combination if Aiden thought so himself. Fey called out her first Pokemon, her Quilava, Blaze, who shook the embers from her fur and ignited her flaming mane and tail in preparation for battle. Aiden already had a good idea of who he would use for this fight, Evelynn was still rather weak and was in need of training, Annabelle was still fairly new to the team and sending her out against a Ghost-type wasn’t the best plan of action… Thalia and Kaizer, who were his strongest thus far, were currently on reserve until he could get his next badge from Bugsy. So that left him with Aria, Dag, and Samoa to use in this battle, perhaps they could do well in this if they played their cards right, because there was no telling what King’s Pokemon were capable of doing just yet. ” You’re up first, Dag!” Aiden called out, tossing the Pokeball he held in his hand forth onto the field. The Jolteon burst from his ball, shaking himself off as his spiky fur crackled with electricity in anticipation for the battle.” Righty-o, let’s get this show on the road!”Daguerro barked eagerly, bouncing a bit on the balls of his paws as he sized up their opponents. If Blaze could handle that Froslass since she had a Fire-type advantage over it, then the Jolteon hopefully wouldn’t have much trouble with cutting that Scyther down to size. That was the plan he was thinking of thus far, but it would depend on what attacks their foes tried to use against them right off the bat. Daguerro was prepared to handle anything they would throw at him, the Jolteon glanced towards his Quilava partner and flashing a confident grin towards her before turning towards their current opponents. His sights were set primarily on Scyther, but he was quite wary of that Froslass as well... There was no way of knowing what sort of tricks the Ghost-type had up her sleeve, after all.✦ ✦

Quilava and Jolteon, a tough pair. These two trainers seemed like they hadn't worked together too much before. That would be good it might mess with their chemistry and give King the upper hand. But before the battle had even began he realized that this was more than likely going to be a good battle. He was eager to see how things would play out. "I take it you two haven't worked together before. This should be a pretty good test for all three of us then. You have the type advantage for now, but the battle is young. So perhaps we shall have ourselves a glorious battle after all, if I led with my strongest Pokemon we wouldn't have any fun would we?" Confident in his tone he negated what the opposing trainers had attempted to taunt him in with, he was looking forward to battle, win or lose he would learn a thing or two from his actions.
Ready to battle he was confident that he would be able to win this battle. Shooting his hand out in front of him he spoke, "Scyther, wing attack on Quilava. Froslass use Ice Punch on the other!" Knowing he had his type disadvantage he was eager to see how they would handle it. Hopefully they would let their guards down for a moment. His strongest pairing would be Prinplup and Meditite without question, and he needed to make sure that he set them up, taking down Jolteon would be a high priority to get Prinplup onto the field safely.

Calliope blinked with recognition when Kaizer mentioned the day she'd met Natalia. "Oh! Now that you mention it, I do vaguely recall..... But it was so long ago, the memory is 'azy I'm afraid..." Calliope leaned her head this way and that, contemplating. "But no matter~ As you say, we 'ad yet to ah, officially meet each other until this moment oui?" Calliope chirped happily, though as the group confronted the mysterious trainer King, Calliope grew fidgety and hummed loudly to keep herself calm.
Natalia had been prepared to take King on alone, but much to her surprise, Aiden had stepped up to fight by her side, suggesting that it's what any good friend would do in this sort of situation. "R-right...!" She gave a small nod and smile, appreciating the back up. She turned her attention back to King, more confident than ever before. With Aiden backing her up, Natalia felt like she could take on the world. "Heh, if it was a challenge he wanted, he'd have taken on one of us. If we work together, then we're gonna give him a run for his money." Natalia suggested with a grin, sending out Blaze after King had selected his starting pair. Aiden himself went with Daguerro to start, meaning they had the full type advantage; now they just had to press it. Blaze glanced over to Dag with a small smile at his eagerness to battle, giving a light nod in response to her partner's grin. She would have liked to get to know him more, but now was not the time for introductions, they had a battle to win.
King suggested that it appeared as if Natalia and Aiden hadn't worked together in battle before. Natalia thought it over. That wasn't entirely true but.... Coordinating moves side by side in a double battle was probably a lot different than the chaos that had been the Halloween Ball. Yes they had been battling side by side then too, but they weren't collaborating quite as much as this battle would have them doing. "Sorry, you'll have to forgive me if I don't feel the same way. I don't really believe there is such a thing as strong pokemon or weak pokemon, there's only smart trainers who effectively utilize their pokemon's strengths and abilities, and stupid ones who equivocate pure power to skill." Natalia smirked slightly. "Let's find out which one you are."
With that, the battle started, King commanding each of his pokemon to attack, the Scyther going after Blaze and rushing her with it's sharp wings, and the Froslass landing a wicked looking punch on Dag, but the two still held out strong. No doubt Aiden was going to have Dag use his electric attacks on the Scyther to take advantage of it's flying type, but Natalia had a bit of a decision to make; whittle down both pokemon's health individually, or combine her efforts with Aiden's to take down one pokemon quickly. If she just had a type advantage on the Froslass, she might have gone with separating their attack focus, but Natalia was in the unique position of having a type advantage over both opponents on the field. "Aiden, let's work this the way we all did at the Halloween ball, okay?" Natalia offered up vaguely. "Alright Blaze, it's your turn, use Fire Blast on that Scyther!" Natalia commanded. Blaze all too happily breathed out a powerful circle of fire, igniting the Scyther where it stood.

✦ ✦Kaizer gave a soft chuckle as Calliope seemed to recognize what he had mentioned, back in Cherrygrove when they had first met their trainers. Of course, this was the first time that they were officially interacting with each other, the Salamence nodding in understanding at the Altaria’s statement of not really recalling it. Considering that so much had happened since that initial meeting in Cherrygrove, Kaizer couldn’t really blame Calliope too much for not remembering it too well. Still, he gave a small smile as she said that it was neither here nor there at this point, since they had only just gotten to officially meet each other just now. Hell, there were probably still quite a few members on Aiden’s team that the Salamence had yet to meet, he hadn’t even introduced himself to the new addition they had gotten back at the Halloween ball, Evelynn he believed her name was. As much as Kaizer would’ve liked to continue carrying on the conversation with Calliope, Fey and Aiden had found themselves facing against a mysterious man wearing a mask and a cape who addressed himself as King. Even though he knew that he was likely being saved for a later time, Kaizer bared his teeth and narrowed his eyes in suspicion at the new trainer. He wasn’t sure what it was about this ‘King’ guy, but the Salamence found his presence to be fairly bothersome. For now, though, he stood back and watched the battle unfold, sighing softly as he heard Calliope humming loudly from her perch on his back as she fidgeted about. He wasn’t quite certain of what he could do to help, but he would keep her company while their trainers were preoccupied until the battle was over. He prayed it would be quick, he was eager for them to get moving and into Azalea Town for the next Gym challenge. Aiden gave a small smile when Fey seemed surprised by his backing her up, knowing full well that she could’ve opted to take on King alone. But with the two of them working together, they just might prove to be more than a match for this new adversary of theirs. Besides, as he suggested, backing her up was what any good friend would’ve done if they had been in his position, and his smile widened as she agreed. With spirits high and confidence boosted, the two of them faced King as they prepared to fight. Aiden chuckled softly as Fey suggested that if the man had wanted a challenge, he would’ve taken on only one of them, but with both of them combined, they would surely give him a run for his money. In all honesty, Aiden wasn’t entirely certain of how this would play out, especially since he had no idea of how strong King’s Pokemon were compared to his and Fey’s teams. Still, with him and her combining their efforts, they just might be able to work together well enough on this to be able to take down whatever threats King had in store for them. He watched as King sent out his first pair to the field, a Scyther and a Froslass, both of which seemed to be considerably strong. Fey selected Blaze as her first battler, and after taking a moment to figure out the best choice, Aiden sent out Daguerro first to compliment the type advantages they could use against King’s Pokemon. Of course, there was no doubt that King had some tricks up his sleeve to turn the battle in his favor, but from the looks of it Fey and Aiden had an upper hand in their first round. The blonde-haired boy grinned at Daguerro’s confidence and energy, the Jolteon just as pumped up for the fight as he was as he gave a determined smile towards his partner. Catching the smile and the nod Blaze gave back to him, the Jolteon struck a battle pose, completely stoked for the fight as he looked between his opponents. Aiden glanced to King as the man spoke up, saying that it looked like the two of them hadn’t worked together before. Well, he was right, but not entirely, in a sense. He and Fey had worked together before, back at the Halloween ball during the intense zombie battle. But then again, that whole battle had been next to a near mess of trainers and zombies alike exchanging attack after attack, whittling each other down until the trainers eventually won. Compared to the chaos of that fight at the ball, this battle would require a lot more strategizing and collaboration with his partner if they were going to take down their opponents in a quick and efficient manner. He listened as King went on to say that they had the type advantage on their side, but the battle had only just begun. After all, it wouldn’t be quite as fun if the man had simply led with his strongest Pokemon right off the bat. Fey gave a response, saying that type advantage wasn’t everything when it came to winning a battle, clearly having a differing opinion from King. She went on to say that she didn’t believe in things like strong or weak Pokemon, it all depended on how smart the trainer was in using their Pokemon’s skills and abilities effectively, or if they simply equated sheer power to skill. ” And in a double battle, it’s a test of how well a trainer is able to do in terms of coordination with his partner and with their Pokemon, so perhaps we all will learn something new from this battle regardless of who wins or loses~” Aiden added, giving a soft chuckle, ” I agree with Fey, the real drive behind a Pokemon’s battling potential is how effectively their trainer can use their abilities and strengthen the skills they are best at. It doesn’t matter if a Pokemon is weak or strong, it’s how you can train them best and help them realize their full potential that matters most~” With that said, the fight truly began as King’s Pokemon, clearly faster, were given their orders to attack. The Scyther charged at Blaze, lashing at her with its sharp wings, while Daguerro braced himself for the incoming Froslass’s attack as she slammed into him with an ice cold fist. The Jolteon hissed at the pain and the harsh lingering chill of the Ice Punch, but his fiery determination allowed him to fight off the worst of the cold and continue moving on. Aiden sighed in relief, feeling grateful that Dag had been spared from being completely frozen by the attack, but he’d have to make this attack count in the event that the Jolteon wouldn’t be so lucky to escape it next time. Shaking the leftover frost from his fur, Daguerro growled low in his throat as he shot a dagger-sharp glare in the Froslass’s direction, preparing for his trainer’s orders. Aiden knew that going after the Scyther would be their best bet with Dag’s type advantage over it, even though he felt that it would be a good idea to whittle down that Froslass a bit so that it could be easily knocked out by Blaze. Fey then ordered Blaze to use Fire Blast on Scyther, Daguerro watching his Quilava partner fire off a brilliantly blazing circle of flame in the Bug-type’s direction. Combined with the boost from the Charcoal that she held, Scyther was not going to enjoy that fire damage very much regardless of how much stronger he was than them as the flames scorched his tough green carapace. However, his troubles were only just beginning, as Daguerro’s body started to glow a bright white-yellow color from all of the pent-up electricity he was gathering. It was almost enough to light up a good portion of the cave around them, making Aria’s flaming wand a mere candle in comparison.” Great shot there, partner~ I’ll take care of the rest,”the Jolteon praised, smiling towards the Quilava as he shifted his position,” Ready… Aim…”The Jolteon’s eyes narrowed as he acquired his target, before taking a bold step forward.” Aaaaaaannnnd fire!”he shouted, letting the buildup of energy in his body release all at once. The result formed a large, crackling bundle of lightning that hissed and screeched as it leapt out from Dag’s body, arcing through the air as it struck the Scyther dead on. The bright glow that had illuminated the cave beforehand faded as the remnants of the Thunder dissipated, leaving a completely grounded Scyther and a lingering smell of smoke in its wake. Combined with the damage from Blaze’s Fire Blast just moments prior, the Bug-type was down and out for the count now. That just left the Froslass on King’s side of the field for now, until he sent in another Pokemon to replace the now fallen Scyther.✦ ✦

"Scyther, return." Speaking callously about the loss of the bug Pokemon he wasn't all that shaken up about it. Scyther had been rarely used since he caught him and he wasn't too concerned about the lose of a sixth of his team. These two would be working together to whittle him down one Pokemon at a time he would have to consider adopting that strategy for himself. If he could remove one of the trainers sooner than later it would be a two on one for the remainder of the battle. Reaching behind his back he snorted, "Not bad, I had a feeling you'd be focusing on Scyther, he was a such a large target I don't blame you. You two might be more used to each other than I thought, coordinating attacks like that. Bravo, but let's see how long you can keep it up, Meditite, your turn." Tossing out the fighting type he was playing one of his most powerful cards he needed to make sure that he would defeat this trainer.
"Froslass, keep on Jolteon with another Ice Punch, let's put this dog down." Again failing to freeze the opponent King snorted once again, "Meditite, Zen Headbutt on Jolteon." Connecting with the headbutt the Jolteon fainted. King clapped, "I was hoping to conduct two separate battles here but if you choose to victimize my Pokemon I will be forced to retaliate. Your Quilava was spared this time girl, but fear not I haven't forgotten about you." Chuckling he taunted the trainers, he was looking forward to what their next move would be. More than likely they would now turn their focus to Froslass, as they retained type advantage there.

Natalia grinned as Dag was able to get that Thunder attack out and finish off the Scyther. It seemed the Jolteon was just as powerful as she remembered. Certainly she was glad to see that this time Dag was fighting with her, not against her. "Yeah! Nice goin' partner!" Blaze cheered as the Scther went down, giving a little celebratory fist pump. She would definitely have to get to know Dag better after their battle, he seemed like a pretty fun guy, unlike most of her teammates. King had to applaud their efforts, commenting that he'd felt they would go after his Scyther. Natalia had to roll her eyes at King's somewhat superior attitude, acting like they were so predictable and that he saw right through their plans. He must've had pretty good eyesight if he could see through their plans and that thick mask of his. Natalia bit her tongue, holding back the temptation to make the comment that she had a feeling as well, a feeling that everything he'd said was complete Tauros s**t.
Their little victory didn't last long though, as suddenly King released a Meditite and had both his pokemon go after Daguerro, effectively knocking the electric type down for the count. Natalia grimaced, casting a worried glance back to Aiden to check and see if he was alright. She knew how much he loved Dag, and to see that pokemon knocked out so quickly and brutally.... Well.... At the very least she hoped he didn't get any painful flashbacks. Natalia shot a icy glare to King as he claimed he was only retaliating because they had victimized his Scyther. "It's called strategy, look it up sometime." Natalia snapped heatedly. King attempted to taunt her by threatening Blaze's safety and suggesting that he hadn't forgotten about them, but Natalia simply scoffed. "Come at me then, your highness~" Natalia sneered, giving a light mocking bow to the King. Blaze was completely thrown off by this sudden change of events. There was no way her partner was down already! That Meditite was way too strong.
Before Natalia could command her, Blaze had her sights locked on the Meditite, growling menacingly in anger over her fallen comrade. "Oi! Dumpling head!" Blaze shot another Fire Blast the Meditite's way, and Natalia blinked in surprise, turning her attention back to the battle."Blaze no that's not--!" Well it was a bit late now, Blaze had already fired the blast of flames towards King's Meditite. "Let's see how you like being in a pressure cooker eh? Get ya nice and steamy." She taunted with a grin. Natalia supposed she couldn't really complain about her pokemon's choice of action, that Meditite was really strong, perhaps it would be best to take it out first before dealing with that Froslass.
