"Osha!" Noah turned on his heels, paws on his hips as his chest puffed out in pride. There’d been a moment of hesitation, but he’d floored that Gligar without a hitch. Despite the smaller stature, his strength was still the best of the best.
And that was all Lafayette needed. He grinned and knelt, giving the otter pokemon a rough but loving head pat of approval. "Nice one, Noah! I knew ya still had it," Lafayette said. The praise made both the pokemon’s heart and chest swell with pride. Of course he still had it in him! Whatever doubt that might’ve remained for the two was discarded like a piece of rubbish. Lafayette scooped the otter up onto his shoulder, grin simmering down as he turned back for town.
That was one concern down. The Gligar might’ve been on the weak side, but Lafayette could tell from the intensity of his attack that Noah was just as strong as he’d ever been. Which left the matter of their task. They still had quite a way to go, and it occurred to Lafayette that shortly after, he’d be right back on track to collecting badges. He ought to plan a little more strategically (if you could believe him able to manage that) and work in some training along the way. The stronger his team was coming out of this, the easier the tasks that followed.
Right, he had a plan then. His mix-matched gaze studied the map provided. There were markers across the world on different regions, some in places that he knew had stronger pokemon than others. He’d start working backward. Go strong and double back on the weak spots later. He’d pick up on his catch work too. He had a lot on his plate and for once the mantra ‘work smarter, not harder’ stuck in his mind.
Destination settled, Lafayette let Dova loose and hauled up onto her back. The Noivern gave a chirp of delight, earning a gentle pat from her owner. He was feeling unusually charitable as of late. It was probably the much-needed nap. "A’igh’ Dova. Hope ya rested, ‘cause we got a ways to go," he said, moving Noah from his shoulder to nestled in front of him, just to assure the poor thing didn’t go flying off. Dova roared and flapped her wings excitedly before taking to the air and spinning about in the right direction.
Next stop, Hoenn for a bit.
