Hello everyone, my name is MsGrimm but you can call me Grimmy if you like. One of my good Gaian friends introduced me to this cause and I joined out of the love I've had for this site for the past 10 years.

I was a sophomore in high school when I was recommended this site, and now I'm a college graduate who's going back as a college junior in art education. This site inspired my passion for digital artwork and I probably would be flipping burgers without a college education or life goal. I want to help get our Gaia back and put the community back in "Online Role-Playing Community" that was the foundation of this site when I joined 10 years ago.

I've signed the petitions, adding additional commentary to help them see where I'm coming from in the decision to make a stand. Now I plan on helping spread the word and get this guild some spotlight. There's just some things I wanted to discuss with everyone first to make sure I'm doing things properly and non-hypocritically.

I recently opened yet another art shop. It's a dual-purpose decision to do this. One is to get in the groove of assigned artwork in preparation for art classes this fall. The other is to earn gold to be able to afford the overpriced things in the marketplace. It's that reason why I'm making this thread. I want to put a link to this guild in my art shop. It's only been open for three days officially and has got a lot of traffic which would be beneficial for you guys. The debate I'm having about it is that I don't want to be a hypocrite. I'm using the shop to get items that are mostly created for the Cash shop, which is part of Gaia's downfall as a community to an extent. Therefore, would it still be okay to advertise this guild and it's cause in my shop? I also see that shops in the Gaia exchange as a support to the cause because it's relying solely on the exchange of gold between users. Rather than buying GC to get the items from the Cash Shops, people like me are selling artwork for gold to get them from the marketplace.

I also just want to point out that I started typing this at 12:15pm central time and in the five minutes it took another GC announcement flew up -_-; I dunno why I even bother. It's never a non-GC announcement. Viva la Revolution!

I'm totally against GC related items and buying them. I feel like an enabler if I were to buy those items from users who are selling them. Encouraging them to buy more and turn around sell ect ect. Items are not so much the problem where gold generators are concerned, but the users who are buying and selling the GC items are only helping to increase the sales of Gold Gens by the prices they are putting on their items. Its a vicious cycle really.
Not to mention some of us found out where that money was going, to their newly released inappropriate little site emotion_puke

A few of us here take our anti GC sentiments a bit futher than others and to each his own I guess. I have to be very proud of you for opening an art shop to earn your gold, it is something many others are not capable of doing or just won't do because they prefer that instant gratification of gold these days rather than put effort into it. Either way, if we let Gaia take all the activities and effort out of this site because of this....well..it will take the community with it too. I say keep it up and good luck.

It really is awesome that you would link us in your shop and much appreciated

P.S. Link to your store maybe?

I see both sides of the buying of the GC items. And I have. I'm wearing some of it now so I'm torn about it. The GC items are prettier than the store ones. Heck have you noticed the lack of quality of the MC items since the introduction of the GC shop or am I the only one? It's been a long time since I was like "OMG I NEED THAT MC!".

I am 100% for the GC announcements to be disabled. That's gotten out of hand. Right now I'm unemployed and take the constant reminder of GC GC GC! as a lil slap to the face; a reminder that I'm poor and can't get those things. The gold spawning items were the worst thing ever. Sure it would be nice to win maybe a huge site-wide contest to earn a lot of gold, but to be giving it away to a lot of users and decreasing the value of the gold is wrong too.

Since it's to each their own I'd like to add a banner in my shop I've decided. I think those petitions need to be signed and users should be informed. The site you're talking about isn't too big of a deal though. It's just that if they're using the money for it, they haven't exactly showed it. (You're referring to Tent___ I assume?). I tried that site out and it's a disoriented mess.

Anyways, this is my shop's link:

If you actually read my rules and see the pricing note that only one customer has even paid that much. I guess we're pirates and what I put were guidelines. At least I'm nice to accept other payment options. Gaia's such a mess now @_@

MsGrimm

Just outta curiosity Grimmy, but what about those of us who aren't super rich? Would you still accept amounts way lower than 300 million gold for requested artwork from you? confused

Yes I sure will. I was thinking about a couple ways to do that while my shop is currently full. These ideas include payment options of gold+items or just items like I've currently been using with a couple of my current customers; pre-made bases like the ones I used in samples to be sold at slightly lower prices, and headshots. (I'm also thinking about re-downloading a gif-making program to make even the full-sized art be able to blink, cry, and/or blush.) I'm still figuring out the best bargain/work load formula.

Personally I am not going to stop wearing my GC items. I've worked hard for them over the years by spending my time and energy doing art, playing zOMG, making graphics, and just being here on Gaia. I also still purchase items in the MP. Why? Because I don't see the inflation getting MUCH better. At this point art is so inflated that it's even hard for me to buy that.

In regards to hypocrisy I honestly don't think it's hypocritical of you to want GC items, purchase them with gold and wear them. It's not hypocritical if you advertise our guild in your art shop either. You're working for your gold, not buying it like some people out there.

Welcome to the guild Grimm! I really hope you can enjoy yourself here! We're a community and a family so please don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything at all.

Also, check out our very own market and exchange. You'll find some great deals on items there!

I'm glad you feel that way about the items. I just didn't want to mess up the guild's overall message by offering my support than turn around and be doing the opposite of what you guys think lol n_n; I've never really joined a movement like this. I too will keep buying, but I'm doing it the hard-working, 'free' way. it makes me feel guilty when I joined Gaia in high school and asking mom for MC money now that I think about it. crying

And I too don't see the inflation getting any better. Just look how easily this compares with the real world. Has the prices of things gone down after the 'bailout'? I don't want to get too political. I'm a democrat that was against the bailout cause I knew it wouldn't help. And in a way I see the gold generators as bailouts; introducing more currency to everyone and then having the prices of everything skyrocket instead of being steady and decreasing the value of the currency. It's the EXACT same thing. >.<

I'll definitely look through the shop. Thank you for being so welcoming n_n
