As far as Kaito was concerned, Meiko was the girl who received top-notch grades, his answer buddy for tests. She was the girl who wanted to grow up and become a therapist, she was a Peer Buddy. She loved helping people, that was especially obvious.
He didn't think her need to help people would go so far as to kill herself for him.
Repeatedly.
He doesn't fully understand the loop they're stuck in, but he does know that she kills herself to save him- and that she's skilled with keeping him from saving her. He can't think of an August 15th where he died. But, above all of that, he knows that they both need to find a way to break out this martyrdom and return to their normal lives- he just doesn't know how.
