In the forest there was a basket. In this basket were no pumpkins, no foals, not even apples. In this basket were relics of old, of an age long past, not often spoken of. In this basket were items of human make, perhaps one of the most sinister things they had ever created with no aid from any other being. In this basket, were the stuff of nightmares, of torment and mockery and shame. It was with these items that Thera called forth one of her own, to see just what he was made of. "TORGUS. TORGUS. TORGUS WHERE ARE YOU?"She might have sent a note earlier, but it never hurt to yell at the top of one's lungs.

Torgus was running through the woods, wings outspread, slapping into trees and underbrush. Nevermind why, okay? It wasn't important. What was important was the aesthetic. He was grace incarnate. Like, like a bull in a china shop. Or a sleek, beautiful, half-blind and slightly drunk boar.
Or a magical vampire carrying his girlfriend on his back -
He came to a sudden halt, digging two neat trenches into the dirt with his half bare feet as he twisted his head around to listen to a sound. Destiny was calling.
"WHAT?"
A pause.
"I'M IN SOME TREES."
He flicked a few twigs out of his wing feathers irritably. He'd been lost in the woods for hours now, it felt, and there wasn't enough clearance for takeoff.

To bad for Torgus, vampires were only allowed to be spooky in the 90s or brooding loners with underlying homosexual themes. The girlfriends would have to wait.
If he could even get a girlfriend but that was for the next chapter in Torgus's life probably.
"TORGUS GET OVER HERE." Thera yelled, tapping her foot impatiently, arms crossed. Like an angry mother, she fully expected him to be on time, neat and ready for a schooling.
"GET OUT OF THOSE TREES AND COME HERE MISTER. ITS TRAINING TIME."

...
"YOU'RE NOT MY MOM."
Another pause.
"...OKAY FINE."
This time, the yelling was less ear splittingly loud, as Torgus had followed the sound of the war horsewoman's voice to it's source. The tips of his wings twitched, betraying his excitement. Training time.
YEAH!

WAS SHE?
The amazingly beautiful and unbelievably dramatic pumpkinlight filled Torgus's eyes and he couldn't quite make out the figure before him.
"Mommy?"
He opened his mouth like a little baby bird.

The wind in her hair, a warmth filled her chest. She- No, actually, she was pretty sure she didn't have any actual kids. She just adopted people. Temporarily. Until their training was over. Or they died. Whichever came first really. That warmth in her chest was probably from that spicy stuff the famine dude made everyone last night. "I ain't nobody mother son, so nut up for this training because this is very important." She pulled one of the weapons from the basket. It was indeed, a fearsome thing. The top of the basket removed, Torgus could see she had a fairly impressive collection of the items. "Soldier-" she began, "-we have recently come into possession several human tools that are used to cause strife, an invention of their own kind." The one taken she snapped it down on her wrist, wincing. "They must be tested to see if we cannot use these to cause a return of..FEAR to the human youths." A few seconds of struggle to remove the bracelet and flatten it- "Shall I explain the plan?"

Torgus hesitantly reached into the basket, prodding a device covered in glowing yellow smileys. It snapped and rolled into a ball in response, and he jumped back.
"Sorcery!"
He squinted at the basket warily. "What's the plan, miss?"

Thera's expression was grim. "Yes, perhaps the one things humans still have, their magic of..." A shudder through Thera had feathers flaring, "creation. But, that is not our concern. No my dear Torgus, the plan is simple. Humans are quirky creatures that function in patterns. Several years ago, these things were the pinnacle of human fashion. To not have one was to be outcast, and stealing or breaking one-" her smile was wide, "-was to cause strife between even the closest friends. Eventually these things fell out of favor, but just like tacky wool sweaters, I expect a resurgence in due time." Puffing up proudly, she felt rather smug. She really wasn't a planner so much as a do-er. This was... well it was better than her idea to go and see if removing the toys in cereal boxes would cause strife between siblings. "But we must master these weapons to use them. Are you ready Torgus? Think you can handle these.. colors and patterns and human innovations?" She spat the word. It was too fancy.

In answer, Torgus met her gaze and shoved his fist into the bucket of snap bracelets.
The sound of dozens upon dozens of the contraptions snapping at once was like gunfire. In the distance, a bird cried and flew out of the underbrush. The woods fell silent, and the brightly-feathered war horseman dramatically fell to his knees.
"Yes," he whispered, his life flashing before his eyes.

Now that was the kind of enthusiasm she liked. A bit on the reckless side, but the horseman had heart. The heart of a true war horseman, brave, resilient, and unafraid of anything- even the purple with pink hearts decorated one. (Personally she loathed the glittering blue one, but was fond of the black with flames. She could stand that one). "Good soldier. Now get up and gear up." She reached in snapping another bracelet on her wrist. "We must master these new weapons to use them on the humans to their maximum potential." Thera had begun the process of attempting to see how many snap bracelets she could snap on.

Torgus stood up obediently, albeit a little weak kneed. He grabbed a fistful of the remaining straight ones, slapping three or four onto his wrist at once. "YEEOW! How can the humans stand it?!" he cried.

Thera glared at the snap bracelet that had what she thought were drug induced patterns of rainbows and animal prints. Humans really were good at making their own FEAR sometimes, they really were. Wincing as she snapped on a fifth, hitting her own limit, the horsewoman looked to Torgus. "There are some things even I do not know. BUT-" Reaching in to pick up a snap bracelet she backed up- And threw it at Torgus. "We must be quick and agile with these learning how to straighten them then launch them for maximum pain and discomfort. Then when we go into the human word-" She grinned. "We send them to the humans, confusing them, enraging them! It will be glorious."

The bracelet snapped him neatly on the nose. "OW!" He bent over, scrambling to collect it off the ground. "That is, uh. Yeah. Of course! Beat them at their own, uh, game!" he cried, fidgeting with the bracelet and trying his darnedest to get it to roll out without curling back up on his fingers.

She looked horrified. "YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME SON?""YOU THINK WE'RE PLAYING. THIS AIN'T NO GAME TORGUS, THIS IS WAR!"Literally. "Now, I know it may seem difficult, but, Pull It, Twist It, Bop It." She might have said it in a rather rythmic way, but she did demonstrate the process of removing the band, and how to toss. "You try." She stood, hands at her hips, ready to see what the horseman could do.
