They're easier to break when the other side outlives their usefulness. As a result, she's never told anyone at the school her name, instead going by Black Rose. She does have a soft side, though she's extremely reluctant to show it.

This is Classified: Ian was always fond of codes as a kid. One of his favorite activities as a child was to hide his classmate's things and leave codes telling where they were. This naturally did not make Ian the most popular boy in the class. Into his adulthood, he remained a practical jokester and treated everyone equally. Background
Brooklynn grew up coming home to the hair salon downstairs and her family's apartment upstairs. She lived in a busy city with her mom; her father often went on business trips across the nation because he was a big deal in his company. The routine was generally the same; after finishing her homework, she would go downstairs and help out her mother in the salon, learning how to manipulate scissors until she could cut nearly as well as her mom. This talent made her popular at slumber parties. One day on her way home from one such slumber party, Brooklynn was attacked by a would-be mugger. Fortunately she had her scissors on her person and managed to incapacitate him and called the police. It was thanks to her excellent grades and talents with scissors, both with hair and as a weapon, that a letter informing Brooklynn she'd been accepted to Gallagher Academy found its way to her doorstep.
