The Haunted House was, for Mengyao, a place he had only been very briefly before. He did not frequent it, and did not go looking for fights, as some of the others had, but instead had kept his focus elsewhere - on places other than the infernal House.
Now, it seemed, he was being called to duty - whatever duty that was. Mengyao felt a sort of connection towards Medea, but at the same time he did not feel as though he owed her for anything. She was the Priestess, but she was neither his Priestess (the Conquest Clan held no such titles), nor did he wish her to be.
And yet here he was, making his way down a darkened, delapidated corridor, hoping in vain that nothing would get on his robes. His irritability at the entire situation not withstanding, the voices in his head pressed into his thoughts, the whispers growing stronger briefly, then ebbing away, as though his thoughts were an ocean with the tide coming in and out.
Mengyao shook his head, allowing himself an expression of great dislike. He wondered, belatedly, where Lifen was, and whether or not she was safe. If she wasn't...
No. He would not allow himself to think otherwise.
Though, now that he thought of it, walking alone in the midst of the Haunted House was probably not the most intelligent idea he had had - though he did believe he was capable of taking care of himself should the time arise, at the moment, in his current state...
He was not sure if he trusted himself very much.
STATUS EFFECT Rolling a 2: ALL DAMAGE DONE BACKFIRES ON THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES (ie if you do 6 damage to the opponent, you take 6 damage). All your log seems to take second place as a voice calls to you, vague, agitating. It pressures you to attack relentlessly, brashly, without caring about your own wounds or damage done to your allies.

Shaheen had wasted no time in getting as far away from her fellow clansmates as possible. She no longer trusted them. Not after what Medea had said, at least. Destroy those who were consumed by insanity. Sure, that was fine, but what about her? What about Lifen and Senga and Bacca? What about all of those others who were horsemen and who were dealing with this cursed affliction themselves? No, she would not stand idly by while the others looked at her with such silent accusations and threats in their gaze. While she might not be "consumed" as it were, she knew she was well on her way to a very unsavory end, and the others all knew it as well. After all, it wasn't as though she had been hiding it!
Paranoia was a wonderful thing.
And so she found herself in the Haunted House, alone and happy to stay that way unless she came upon somebody that she felt like she could trust. The whispers in her head were incessant, as though fed by the fog or whatever else was in the air. It was maddening, like ants marching across her brain, tiny feet pinching in a million places at once. She could barely concentrate past it, and needed something to take her mind off of it, whether it be one of these insanity monsters to destroy or a hunter to dismember. Battle is what she knew and battle is how she would deal.
She marched along the desolate corridor, head cocked to the side as she listened, not to the voices but for any sounds that might indicate she was nearing a potential threat or target. A creak of the floorboard had her attention shifting, behind her, dagger quickly summoned to hand and her upper lip pulled back from her teeth.
The figure behind her was tall, and oddly familiar. He wore robes, like that of conquest, but from this distance it was hard to tell. She began walking back towards it, her proverbial hackles raised, until she was close enough to see...
....Yes, it was definitely one of conquest. Some of the tension left her body as she eyed him suspiciously. "Have you seen anything?"
Pleasantries later, business now.

He vaguely recognized the horsewoman as one had seen before, but he did not know her name. Turning around, Mengyao lifted his chin and smiled serenely at her. "I'm afraid not. I have yet to - "
But there was a sudden movement, and an abrupt shift, the fog swirly thick and heavy, and it was difficult to see, Mengyao's voice lost in the whiteness. He opened his mouth to try and ask the horsewoman something, but instead he heard movement behind him.
Slam.
Claws raked against his back, and he gave a soundless gasp of surprise, staggering forward as shivers of pain raked up his spine. His hands scrabbled outwards, grasping for something, anything -
- the bow shimmered, appeared in his fingers, and he spun around angrily, pulling back the string and firing off an arrow towards the creature, heart hammering loudly against his rib cage.
This is -
No.

She frowned as the realization of where she had seen this man before dawned. In Lifen's booth, at the festival. He had been sitting there, with her, had he not? Well, if that made him a friend of her's then....
She continued her approach, nearly upon him now, dagger still in hand but held in a non-threatening way, when the fog struck. Thick, coiling tendrils that left her nearly blinded. Her mouth opened as well, letting out a startled exclamation. Where once there was nothing, there was now a monstrous form looming up to attack. claws stretching out, swiping at her, sinking painfully into her flesh.
Without thought, she began to act, her dagger flying from her hand the instant that claw tore into her, grappling her, sent straight at what she thought was it's chest. The pain was horrible, but she couldn't stop. Attack, attack, attack, a repeated mantra in her head. She needed to keep fighting, regardless of whether she hurt herself in the process.

The whispers curled inside of his head, hissed at the corners of his mind, like an itch that constantly irritated but could never be taken away. Mengyao closed his eyes, shaking his head, but the pain was still there, and he lifted his hands again, fingers curling around the string of the bow as he pulled it back once more.
His body hurt - everything hurt - but he kept moving, and the arrows whistled through the fog, towards the creature, the string of the bow biting painfully at Mengyao's fingers. He did not notice it, however, nor did he make any gesture to look for the other horsewoman who had entered the fog with him.
He had not yet had a chance to ask her name, either.

Pain coursed through Shaheen's body, but still all she could think about was attacking. The whispers were almost making sense for a change, goading her on, telling her she needed to maim, dismember, and destroy regardless of consequences towards her own well being.
She growled, a wordless and feral sound as her dagger came back to her hand, swiping at the claw that lashed out at her, grazing against it, the pain she dealt to this new enemy searing along her own skin as though she had sliced at herself instead.
Her golden eyes glowed ominously.

More pain, more blood, more voices whispering urgently in her mind. She had to end this, had to end the creature, had to do whatever it took.
Dimly she was still aware of the horseman that fought beside her but she had little thought towards his well being or her own. All that mattered now were the voices, and what they urged her to do. The insanity creatures claw raked against her flesh once more and her fear shield began to weaken and crumble.
It was now or never.
The chieftain took a split second to pause, to gather her Fear into the blade of the dagger gripped tightly within her hand, imbuing it with power before she leapt forward with the aid of powerful wing beats behind her, driving the dagger home deep inside the creature. The pain of the blow resonated deep inside of her, like nothing she had ever felt. The voices became a cacophony as her fear shield shattered beneath the strain, and her body began to tear apart, dissipating into fear particles as she screamed wordlessly into the foggy air.
And then she was just gone, the echoes of her voice down the corridor and the blood spattered upon the floor the only evidence left behind to suggest that she was ever there at all.
