The Eternal

[Munashii the Unseen]

A shadow, slick as ink, moves slowly within the darkness
Watching, constantly watching, with that smoke curling from its nostrils.
Sinewy muscle strains to bear the weight
And those heavy scales shift with a soft brush.

This beast, this colossal creature
The all endless and all-knowing
Is "He Who Knows All" and has witnessed
All pages which have been turned.

This beast. The one they call "Dragon",
He has lived since the beginning, and shall live until the end.
He simply observes as the winds of time
Turn the pages in the book of life.

A poem written for #Dragon-Fanatics on DeviantART. They're holding a poetry contest with the theme simply being "dragons". I'm not very experienced with poetry (although I do love it!) soo... this might be a bit... off? I don't know.

Free verse is great as long as it still has a strong sense of rhythm like this (I actually prefer it. Give me Whitman over Pope any day.)

Personally, I liked it, it's hard to sound as original as this does with such a retreaded topic as this. Nicely done.

Thanks. ^_^ I'm glad it came out as good as it did because as you've said, it's difficult to sound original with a common theme/topic.
