I love history in general so it thrills me to find a good historical anime!

There are more than you'd think but it seems like a lot of people either haven't heard of them or they are not interested in this genre...which is sad, because I personally think they have the best plots and some of the most interesting characters.

So here is a forum to discuss historically based anime, suggest new ones, gush over your favorite characters and maybe even share or make fanart! Posting images/links is awesome!

'Cause if so, then that's the only one I've seen.

Yes Hetalia is an awesome show-very main stream but you can't help but love it, right?

Samurai X is a good historical anime movie as well. I highly recommend it.

Avatar is really good, from parts that I've seen and quite funny too~!
My favourite character is easily Toph. heart

I also love InuYasha, too~!
I've got 5 series upto now on DVD and I want them all but they're not cheap. o,o

I love kimono and historical clothing, so I am always pleased to see one. biggrin

Though I find sorting them by era better for my interests.

Maybe not on your list:

Taishou Yakyuu Musume (Baseball girls)
Blade of the Immortal - not exactly sure, but they wear kimono (manga & anime)
Saraiya Goyou (House of 5 Leaves) - has a wandering samurai in a way, so just pre-Meiji, likely, or just after.

Hundred Stories - Edo/Meiji
Kurozuka - characters in it include Benkei, so long time ago (Heian?)
Ninja Scroll (movie)

Mononoke Hime

Sakura Taisen (1920s ish)
