Vi was the first one into the dining hall, as usual. Her bag, slung over one shoulder, contained two to four notebooks, a handful of mechanical pencils, her laptop, and a few other things. Vi was never one to carry too much at one time, and of course she never bothered with textbooks; why bother when the teachers didn't use them and they were on the classroom tablets anyway? Vi barely paid attention in any of the classes anymore; her grades had slipped a little, but only because she'd picked up her work again. She was waiting on her intel from Him, but until then she couldn't really do much. Vi sighed. She left her bag at her usual seat, swung by the food line, and picked up some lunch. The food at Gallagher was definitely a step up from most school lunches; Vi remembered the cardboard-flavored french fries from freshman year all too well.

Vi returned to her seat with a few slices of pizza and a carton of chocolate milk. She glanced up at the door. Okay, she knew she was always early to lunch, but where the hell was everyone else? Snip was going to be late, as usual, but Enigma, Artemis, Smoke, and everyone else usually came in by now. They had been right behind Vi once class had gotten out and they'd gotten away from that stupid encryption teacher for the day. Did he even write lesson plans anymore? Vi felt that he didn't; he just gave them a relatively easy message to crack (the keyword had been Hyde rox) so most of the class just spent the period chatting. Vi spent it napping. But honestly, where the hell was everyone? Even if they were going to the dorms, they should've been here by now... Vi reconsidered. If they weren't here yet, she might be able to actually get something somewhat productive done.

"Silence is gold," Vi muttered to herself, pulling a small, Barbie-pink notebook. Taking a bite of her pizza, she opened it and started to read. Hopefully nobody would bother her, but she'd come to expect differently.
