Hiei_no_miko I need some advice on what to do for my research project. The reason I'm asking here is that I want to do it on Paganism. I'm thinking something like What people think about paganism, from within and without. The part of it where I would ask non-pagans is because my professor said that paganism fits the definition of a cult and I want the oportunity to argue against that. What do you guys think I could/should do with my project? Dictionary.com cult n. 1. a. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. b. The followers of such a religion or sect. 2. A system or community of religious worship and ritual. 3. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual. 4. A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease. 5. a. Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing. b. The object of such devotion. 6. An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest. every religion is a cult by all the definitions except 1a and 1b.
paganism is not a religion. it is unifying term based on what people are not (not christian, not jewish, not muslim).
under any of these definitions, i don't see paganism fitting in as a cult.

Hiei_no_miko Edit: So, I settled on the topid of why people become pagans, because I wanted to see what you guys would say so if you could answer a few questions for me I would really appreciate it. Age: How old were you when you became pagan? What made your realize that you were? Anything else you would like to say? Thanks for your help, if anybody has any advice on how to make the survey a little better please let me know.
I was about 9 or 10 when I became pagan. I started studying Paganism and stuck with it, without really realizing it was for me; it just seemed natural.
