Introduction

First of all, I need to say that this is an idea I've had since I was like eight years old and have been fine tuning it since. Second, I really wanted to share it, which is why I am starting another Role Play thread. Now for the random facts: I tried to turn it into a novel, and got about thirty pages into it (I posted some in the fantasy section of this guild), and I do mean to finish one day. I decided to make it a Role Play for now just to see how people would react to it and to get a second opinion, if you will. So without further delay I present -

2nd Age of Magic

Prologue

October 2015, the first two mages appear, the first in Russia, the second in Canada. The United States Government finds information on the Russian ‘Superman’ on the internet and sends spies to figure out if the cyberspace rumours are true. The Canadian government keeps their ‘Superman’ a complete secret from the world.

May 2016, eight more mages appear: two in the United States, one in Canada, two in Russia, and three in England. All mages are conscripted by their governments for research purposes.

September 2016, the presence of mages causes the treaties between the United States, Russia, and England to weaken. Canada turns neutral to all three nations.

November 2016, The United States sends armed forces to Canada to force the Canadians ‘reconsider’ the neutral standing. This action increases tensions between the United States, England and Russia.

December 2016, The United States conquer Canada. Religious leader’s label mages as evil entities and encourage the destruction of magic users.

June 2017, England and Russia declare war on the United States, England requests the assistance of Europe. All but Germany accept the call.

July 2017, Germany unleashes three hundred mages against Europe. Japan reveals their mages by attacking China.

October 2017, Germany conquers Europe. Japan conquers China. Japan and Germany join the war.

November 2017, World War Three begins.

August 2019, The United States launches multiple nuclear bombs at Europe. German-European mages render the American bombs harmless.

September 2019, Nuclear weapons are classified as inferior and useless. Mages are classified as super weapons.

April 2020, Four million people have the ability to use magic. Every mage is drafted and sent to the front lines.

January 2031, Nine hundred and eighty million people around the globe can use magic. Mages turn against their home countries. Government authority loses power and every government official is hunted down.

January 2031, World War Three ends.

June 2031, most religions vanish, society collapses, and the entire world has become ‘Survival of the fittest’.

November 2031, mana reservoirs start appearing in random places.

December 2034, only a handful of the eight billion people that saw the beginning of WWIII are still alive.

2035

The world has become a dark, evil place. Everything we once had and took for granted, music, games, television, steady food supply, shelter, authority, it's all gone. Anyone that was lucky enough, or stupid enough, to hold onto these were the first to be killed off after the war ended. They were killed by one of the many threats of this new, horrifying world.

Mages - Humans who have been granted control of the elements. They differ in strength and what element they control, but there are similarities. Scientists were able to discover that the magic in their bodies enhanced them, making them as fit as Olympic athletes and allowing them to go without food, water, or sleep for nearly a month. In 2032 it was determined that mages were also aging much slower than regular humans.

Marauders - Ruthless people who have fun in hunting others and pillaging what semi-functional settlements have managed to be scraped together. They don't just hunt people for fun, they have been known to eat fellow humans, take children and raise them to be Marauders, and they despise mages to no end. These barbarians have an extreme tribal mindset and most commonly seen driving trucks with random sharp objects hastily attached to the front of their vehicles.

Mana Wells - In 2031 large pools of greenish-blue liquid started to appear. Two things were discovered early on. One, the liquid is raw mana, as determined by a group scientists. Two, these are extraordinarily dangerous. For reasons unknown, exposure causes severe mutation in humans. Mana Wells give off a very strong aroma, making it seem like the air is made of syrup.

Mana Mutants - Bizarre creatures that are almost identical to the once popular image of zombies. Rare cases of the mutation results in Titans. Titans are behemoths that experience rapid growth and basically become a genderless Hulk. Humans are the only being to have such a reaction to the raw mana.

Golems - The worst hostile being out there. Golems are simply vehicles that have gained primitive life by means of magic. They wander around, never needing to refuel, but attempt to kill any that cross their path. Tanks are the worst. Just imagine a tank that has an endless fuel tank, an endless pile of ammo for its cannon, and a psychopath at the controls. So far, no aircraft or boats have become Golems.

Humans - People just doing whatever they can to survive, protect what little they have or those important to them.

Magic and Mages

Scientists were able to determine that magic came in six distinct varieties and were able to establish a class system. So far, it seems that what element mages can control is entirely random.

Classes
1) Little to no threat to anyone
2) Moderate threat against a small group (3-5 people), extreme threat to an individual
3) Extreme threat to small group, moderate threat against large group (9-20)
4) Extreme threat to large group
5) Destructive force equal to an atomic or biological weapon

*Note: Only one class 5 mage has ever lived, they were reported dead in 2030

Magic
Light - Magic is focused on life and vitality. These mages can see auras and read how the person is feeling, what kind of magic the have, and even their age. The ability to heal drains the vitality of the user but it is possible for light mages to to take others vitality, or life, to recharge themselves. Light mages are never higher than Class 2.
Dark - This magic has mostly what has been called psychic powers. These mages can hear thoughts, communicate telepathically, and manipulate emotions, an example: increasing how afraid someone is until they die of fright. The price of manipulating an emotion is losing the same one for a time. Dark mages are, on average, Class 2.
Earth - Earth mages can only move natural earth. Natural earths do not include steel, concrete, asphalt, anything that does not occur naturally. This power is limited by the mage's own physical strength. Class 3 is the average for this type of mage.
Fire - These are easily the most dangerous type of mage, they can ignite the air with a thought. This mage is only limited by their knowledge on how fire works and are a Class 4 average. Fire mages are oblivious to temperature and usually freeze to death.
Water - Averaging at Class 3, water mages are strangely weak, considering how much water is on Earth. These mages are able to alter the temperature of water, among other things. Water mages can mimic most abilities of the other elements, excluding Light and Dark.
Wind - Mages of Wind can use their element to augment their movement and a multitude of other abilties, limited by the mage's imagination. Wind mages are either Class 3 or 4.

Profiles

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Name - Roy
Age - Appears 23, actually 46
Element - Light
Class - 1
Main Weapon - Katana
Secondary Weapon - .45 Revolver
Personality - Quiet, reserved, great sense of humor but never laughs, compelled to help anyone who needs it, basically a wandering hero
Bio - Roy served on the front lines of the war along with his bother, a water mage. After suffering what should have been a fatal gunshot wound, Roy's power suddenly appeared and he was able to heal himself. Roy and his brother later lead one group of rebel mages. To send a message, Roy's brother unleashed his true power by completely destroying Manhattan using the water around the island. After witnessing such an atrocity, and learning that his brother was the rumored class 5 mage, Roy knew there was only one thing to do. Roy took all of his brother's vitality. Since then Roy has been wandering and helping whoever he can.
Other - Almost always chewing on a toothpick and carries a backpack.

User Image
Name - Lizbeth
Age - looks to be 20 years old, actually around 40.
Element - Fire
Class - 4
Main Weapon - Double swords
Secondary Weapon - quarterstaff
Personality - despite being a Fire mage, Liz is very cold in personality. But when angered, her rage can be as hot and raging as a wildfire, or as cold and calculating as a controlled flame. Will try to stay out of large crowds of people when possible, if not, will keep her back to a wall or keep towards the outer edge to protect herself.
Bio - Lizbeth was discovered as a Fire mage in 2016 when she was drafted as a research subject by the English government. She had no idea how she became a Fire mage, other than it had something to do with an accident she had when she was younger. But as the years went on, nothing else was told to her as more and more experiments were conducted on her to find out why exactly she was given the ability to control fire. In the year 2031, she finally decided enough was enough. She had enough control over her ability that she was able to finally burn down the government building where she had been kept and escape. She has been running and protecting her identity ever since.
Other - Carries a sack of books around with her, where ever she goes. It's the only way for her to escape the world she now lives in, so the books are her most preciousness possession. Also when surrounded by a large crowd of people, she will become nervous and tense. Being by herself for large periods of time has made her wary of large crowds and what they could do to her, even if she is a Class 4 Fire mage.

User Image
Name - Kimmi Rolk
Age - 20
Element - None
Main Weapon - twin daggers
Secondary Weapon - sword
Personality - serious, watchful, careful
Bio - Kimmi was only three when the War began and her parents died during the war when Kimmi had turned 9. Kimmi learned to fend for herself and became a very emotionless little girl. When she encountered other living humans they didn't understand her reserve. As she grew up she trained herself to use weapons that she had discovered in ruins. Kimmi favored daggers because she had developed a skill for throwing them with clear accuracy and Kimmi is almost as good with a sword but finds it hard to conceal and clumsy. When Kimmi turned 18 she began her search for anything that would help her destroy the mage that had killed her parents. Kimmi developed a hatred for the mages when her parents where killed right in front of her while she was hiding in a cabinet.
Other - Taps her nails on her leg or some surface when nervous or thinking.

Kimmi Rolk

Kimmi cautiously rounded the rubble she had beeen hiding behind as a few mages passed her, showing off their powers. As she rounded the rubble she saw them walking farther away as if nothing had happened. Kimmi sighed quietly and sank to the ground. She had entered a mage infested area without realizing it and had wanted to pass through it without getting discovered. Kimmi felt that the mages would kill her or torment her is she was discovered by them. Maybe slow roast her with an apple in her mouth. Kimmi shook the thought away and shoved her hands over her face. She was exhasted and hadn't slept in the past few days for worry of mages stumbling upon her. Kimmi decided she had to keep moving otherwise shewould be discovered. She stood up checked the coast and kept walking. Kimmi felt the comfort of her daggers in their holders under her skirt. It was fairly short because it had been a knee skirt when she was littler. Kimmi was in desperate need of new clothing but found it would be nearly imposstible to find in a bunch of rubble. After she made a few miles walk she figured she should be out of the Mage infested area and could rest comfortably. Kimmi had found her way into a nice little valley with some tall grass. It was about four feet high. Kimmi layed down in it and closed her eyes, wary of her surroundings but still sleeping. Hmmm I need this so bad. she thought before drifting completely off

Roy gently swung his leg as he calmly drank out of a bottle of water while sitting on a high branch of a very leafy tree. He capped the bottle and dropped it back in the backpack he had hanging off his sword, which was stabbed deep into the tree. The brown haired man pulled a plastic cylinder full of toothpicks out of his pocket and placed one in his mouth. He heard some rowdy voices, looked down and saw some mages mindlessly showing off their powers to each other. As long they did not look up in the tree, he did not care how childish they acted. He leaned back against the tree and unintentionally fell asleep.

Roy woke up a few hours later. The sun had started to set and he stretched to get ready to continue traveling. Just before pulling his sword out of the tree he heard a growing rumbling. He looked around and froze instantly. The rumbling was coming from a large tan colored tank that was slowly making its way down the same road he had seen the mages traveling down. Roy hoped with all his might the tank would not notice him.

Kimmi Rolk

Kimmi awoke from her nap and sat up making herself verry visible to anyone on ground, or above. She rubbed sleep from her eyes and looked around dazed. For some reason she couldn't remember what she wanted to do. Maybe she wanted to fight mages, or go find some humans to live with. She could decide and looked into her bag that had been dropped on the ground and used as an uncomfortable pillow. As she looked through she found she had enough food to last her two more meals and all the water was gone. Kimmi wasn't sure what she should do about this situation because she was sure that there was no water or food wandering around. Maybe a rabbit or two, but she didn't want to eat it. They were to adorable to eat. She normallly found someone selling meat to survive, but this close to mage territory it was highly unlikely to find any humans selling something to survive. Plus Kimmi didn't have anything worthful to trade with. This sucks so bad. I might as well die right here! There's no way I'm going to find food around here. I'm super thirsty and need water, but that unlikely too. I'm screwed it's final. Kimmi let out a frustrated groan that seemed a little loud to her. She slammed her head on the ground by accident as she fell back and squealed out an 'ow'.

Lizbeth walked through the area, her eyes shifting constantly; left, right, up, down, never following the same pattern. It was a trick that she had learned over the years. If she wanted to keep herself safe and alive, she had to keep her senses alert and her eyes on what was happening around her. Looking up, she could see a group of mages up ahead. She scoffed under her breath. Fools, she thought, you're asking for trouble when you show what powers you have. There's no element of surprise if you have to defend yourself again an attack.

She shook her head, and headed further out, away from the morons. There was one good thing about this area though, was there was what seemed to be a grass field. It was a place where she could go and relax. People of any sort made her nervous now.

Lizbeth made her way out into the grass, letting her tension slide from her as she looked into the sky. She could barely see the stars anymore...she could barely remember what stars looked like. It had been years since she could remember looking up at the night sky and seeing floods of stars. Looking across the field, the fire mage saw what looked to be a dip in the grass. Scowling, she walked over, only to see that it was a girl. A sleeping girl, but a girl nonetheless. And she had weapons. Lizbeth backed up, trying not to make a sound. She didn't do well with people.

Roy very slowly and quietly climbed down out of the tree he had camped in. As as his feet hit the ground, he took off at a full sprint. He had no idea how aware or even how golems were able to detect people, no one knew. Roy sprinted across the road, through a nearby ruin, and into a field of very tall grass. He spun around and waited for the tank to crash through the ruin while gasping for breath. Absentmindedly, he took note of the toothpick still in his mouth and smiled to himself as an out of place thought crossed his mind Probably should have spit that out before running. Would have been really bad if I tripped and faceplanted.

The brown haired mage stabbed his sword into the ground at his feet, swung off his backpack, and unzipped it. He was down to two and half bottles of water, he only ever carried three, and a handful of bullets for the revolver comfortably sitting in it's holster. Swinging the backpack back onto himself Roy continued to look where he had come from, utterly convinced the tank was waiting for him to let down his guard. His stomach loudly growling shook him out of his thoughts and he let out a loud sigh. It had been almost a week since his last meal. He hoped that soon he would someone with a bit of extra food so he could trade them some of his water.

Kimmi Rolk

Kimmi heard rustling and looked up to find a person standing there. Two actually. A female and a male. They weren't together, it appeared and they were mages. Kimmi let out a small squeal and crawled backwards as she looked up at them. She wasn't sure what type of mages they were but, they were no doubt mages. "Please don't hurt me." She falsely acted harmless. She wasn't ofcourse but she would have a better chance of getting away without a fight. Two against one was hardly fair. Kimmi looked at both of them and hoped against hope that they wouldn't hurt her. The girl mage had red hair that Kimmi slightly envied and the other mage she couldn't quiet see what he looked like, she was to far away from him to see.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2012 5:00 pm
Lizbeth cringed slightly as the girl woke up and squealed. Damnit! she thought. Why did she have to wake up? Now I have to deal with her, and I really don't want to, I just want to get on my way. She grimaced.

"Shut up!" she said. "I'm not going to hurt you unless you provoke me. So don't even THINK of dragging your weapons out," she snarled, keeping an eye on the girl. She could see there was another person near the edge of the field. It seemed that he had just ran out of the rubble. The sound of large machinery echoed, showing that something was there; possibly a tank or a mecha suit. Great...someone else to deal with. She looked back at the girl in the grass at her feet.

"You so much as even move, I'll torch you," she growled. The fire mage was even more irritated now. She had another person to deal with, but they were hopefully a mage. Mages she could at least connect with. Humans not so much anymore. But all Lizbeth wanted to do was keep out of sight...that flew out of the window once she ran into the girl.

Kimmi Rolk

Kimmi stayed put on the ground as the mage threatened her. So she's fire. Great. Kimmi thought. "Well, I wasn't planning on fighting anybody. I just want to survive." Kimmi said, keeping her tone safely away from attitude and snark. Kimmi started and couldn't help but scramble onto her feet into a crouch for her daggers if she needed to she would. She didn't draw them out but made it so that if she needed to protect herself she needed to. Kimmi was careful not to antagonize the fire mage. "Sorry, I moved. I need to protect myself from anything that tries to kill me." Kimmi couldn't help but be a little snarky with that comment. She wasn't much for being around people, especially not mages.
