I really want to do a story where the main character is traumatized and must struggle to come to terms with both their self and the person who traumatized them. The way the story unfolds kind of reminds me of the Snowflake Method, so I called it the Snowflake Effect, where something starts out simple but becomes an elaborate, detailed drawing. And of course, I'll be using the Snowflake Method to put all of this together once I center on one idea.

...[EDIT] Or maybe I'll just let this be my brainstorming thread for myself. XD You guys can maybe tell me what you think of my ideas? A lot of times I have a hard time choosing. ;-;

I have no names yet, so I'll just use variables.

Character A = Protagonist/Traumatized Person
Character B = Antagonist/Person Who Causes Trauma
Character C-Z = Other Characters >.>

• Idea 1: Character A lives a perfect life, with a husband (Character B) and two children, one older than the other. All is good until two months before the couple's third anniversary. Character B suddenly becomes distant and is constantly beginning arguments with Character A. A tries to brush it off until Character B hits them. Character A finds out that B has been drinking and sets out to set B straight. However, B only becomes more abusive and takes their anger out on their youngest child, murdering him. In horror, A contacts the police and must constantly fight to bring justice to B's actions not only A, but to their now dead child.
• Idea 2: Null.

Actually... I think I'm gonna just make this a general brainstorming thread so then I don't have to make a new thread every time I have a different idea. XD

So here's one for a fanfiction/story for the Avatar Universe. Guess I'll start out with some things from the Snowflake Method.

One Sentence Summary

[15 words or less] - A new Avatar must bring balance to a world that is being destroyed by industrialization. [Exactly 15 words.]

Paragraph Summary

A new Avatar, born into the ruined remains of the Earth Kingdom, has come to find that the world is not as it should be. Life is dwindling, due to too much reliance on technology such as cars. On top of that, there is the looming threat of civil war between those who believe they can fix things by introducing new technology, and those who want to return to the Old Ways and live again as four Nations. Now, it is up to this new Avatar to determine the fate of the world. [About 4 Sentences.]

Paragraph Summary 2 [Major Events and Plot]

Beginning - The Avatar has been traveling the lands where the Earth Kingdom once was and has been visiting extremely small villages to try and appease the spirits and bring life back to the land. However, he/she finds that their meager Earthbending skills will not be enough to help the people. The new Avatar begins a long journey to master the four elements while trying to redeem the dead earth and to quell the uprising between those who believe in the Old Ways and those who believe in technology.

Major Event 1 - Avatar comes upon a city whose inhabitants mostly want to revert back to the old ways. They are mostly Earthbenders and Earth Kingdom descendants, being that they live in what was once the great Earth Kingdom. However, just as the Avatar begins to find out about the threat of civil war, the city is attacked by those who believe in technology and they are forced to evacuate the city.

Major Event 2 - Avatar makes a long journey to a town that was once visited by him/her in a past life. Around the town, called Senlin Village, there are the remains and stumps of trees, from cutting down the forest. He/she has flashbacks and visions of the spirit, Hei Bai, and must convince the citizens to stop cutting down the forest, else the dying spirit will destroy the town along with the surrounding land, plunging it into the sea.

Major Event 3 - The Avatar must cross the ocean and manages to find him/herself a small ship that is willing to ferry him/her across. However, a gut-feeling tells the Avatar that a storm is approaching. The ship's captain reassures him/her that there will be no such thing and urges them to go. However, while they are at sea, they are indeed caught by a violent storm. The ship is struck by a huge tidal wave and is threatening to capsize. The Avatar must find a way to save the ship and her crew or else the lives may be on his/her hands.

Major Event 4 - The Avatar arrives in Shu Jing, a bustling port city, and meets the descendant of the master swordsman, Piandao. The descendant invites him/her to dinner and shares the story of his great-grandfather and the student, Sokka. Although he seems to be extremely well-mannered and nice, the Avatar can't help but be suspicious of the standing of the descendant. He/she then finds out that he, being wealthy, has been funding plans for a new machine that supposedly will have the capacity to wipe out the entire group of those who believe in the Old Ways. He/she must somehow either convince him to scrap the plans, stop funding it, or kill him.

Major Event 5 - The Avatar manages to find a way to the home of the Ancient Sun Warriors, only to find that it has been razed and is now a barren wasteland. The Avatar comes across and ancient-looking man as he/she picks through the remands of the destroyed city. The old man tells the Avatar that he has been waiting for them for a long time and proceeds to lead them to the home of the last surviving dragons. The Avatar must go through the ancient ritual as his/her past life has done before, and offer a flame to the original benders, Ran and Shaw. He/she hopes that they will teach them the art of fire bending.

Major Event 6 - The Avatar, led by the old man, completes the ancient Sun Warrior ritual and arrives at the age-old lair of Ran and Shaw, only to find that the two giant dragons are nowhere to be found. Crestfallen, she sits down in the middle of the platform to think and 'meditate', seeking the wisdom of her past lives. Avatar Roku appears before her and speaks to her... and shows him/her the way.

[More Ideas to come later - I have to go cook dinner!]

Character Development: The Avatar

Temporary Name [To Keep Track] - Ra

True Name - Song [Chinese Meaning for "pine tree"]

Antagonist or Protagonist? - Protagonist

Sex - Female

Back Story - Song was born into poverty, in a wasteland that was once the Earth Kingdom. Both of her parents did not have the ability to bend, so it was a surprise when Song first displayed her Earthbending skills at the age of four. Her family wasn't that big and she had a single older brother, Rin, who was also, strangely, an Earthbender. Song's family of four traveled with a larger group in a caravan, their wooden and leather cart was pulled by two ostrich horses. Her father tried to make money as a traveling leatherworker, but it was difficult to earn anything now that there was metal, which everyone else preferred.

When the caravan has stopped during their journeys for trading and rest at various villages, Song and her brother would often wander off into the wilds and practice their Earthbending. When Song was eight, it was during one of those nights of training when her live changed.

The pair were out by a small polluted stream, practicing their bending by lifting a large boulder that rested nearby when suddenly a armadillo lion appeared out of nowhere and pounced on her brother. Horrified, Song frantically bended large rocks at the beast. However, the beast was unaffected as it mauled Rin. Crying out for help and running towards the beast, she was suddenly greeted with the morbid sight of the armored cat ripping into her brother's flesh and tearing him asunder. She stood, frozen, as her brother was torn apart in front of her very eyes and killed brutally.

Confronted with this emotional sight, her eyes suddenly began to glow a ghostly white and a furious wind began to whip around her. Her parents and other traveling companions rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion and arrived to find the now-changed Song. The eight-year-old girl lifted her head and let out a shout in pain and agony, then suddenly shifted into an advanced Earthbending stance. The armadillo lion whirled to face the enraged girl, only to be thrown into the air by a giant rock suddenly jutting up from the ground. While in midair, the cat twisted in an attempt to land agilely, but the giant boulder that had served as no more than a practice toy abruptly came down upon the cat, crushing it.

Song was panting as the spectral glow disappeared from her eyes and she began to collapse. Her father rushed to catch her while behind them, her mother was sobbing, filled with grief from the death of their one and only son. That was the night when they had realized what their daughter was; the Avatar.

After that event, Song buried her brother by using her bending abilities. Six months after the death of Rin, her father was murdered by bandits when he journeyed into a village to sell his wares. After that, her mother was never the same. She sank into a deep depression until she died another six months later, when Song turned nine. Cold and alone, she took her cart and managed to sell its wares, mostly to people who felt sorry for her. After that, she sold the cart itself along with one of her ostrich horses. The young Avatar was forced to mature quickly after that as she managed to scrape out a hard living as she traveled from village to village, her eyes opening up as she began to realize that the world had slowly been dying as she had been absorbed within her own problems.

Song eventually resorted to thievery to keep herself alive and lived this way as she traveled like a nomad like she had done for most of her life. She lived like this for the next few years. Conflicted on the inside and still filled with grief over the death of her only known family, Song traveled and thought about her life and eventually her memories came to the revelation of herself as the Avatar. Her eyes now fully opened to the dying world around her, suddenly had a vision of the spirits of the lands, who gave her one mission; to calm the angry spirits and find a way to heal the lands.

And so now, seventeen-year-old Song lives her story.

Nationality/Descent - Earth Kingdom. However, she has a darker skin tone, hinting a possible Water Tribe ancestors along the line.

Dialect/Linguistics - Often changes depending on where her current location is. Sometimes it is a mix of everything she has ever heard on her travels. Her mood also depicts how she speaks - when she is angry, her words often become more pronounced and 'proper'.

Personality - Rebellious, uncooperative, gloomy, distant, sensitive, responsible.

How Song Would React If... -

Saw a car crash: Null.

Encountered a dying person during her travels: Null.

Had to give a spech: Null.

Main Emotions- Sad: Is often sad or gloomy as she is always filled with grief over the death of her dear brother and both of her parents. However, she doesn't usually talk about her family.

Doubt: Since Song was young when her brother was killed, she was unable to save him from the armadillo lion that killed him. She often doubts she can fulfill her duty as the Avatar due to the fact that she couldn't even save her own brother from a violent death.

Frustration: She often feels frustration, which originally stemmed from again, the death of Rin and being unable to stop it. She is also frustrated with the way her life has turned out, from the death of her family to the fact that it is her job to return the world to balance.

Calm: Song is often calm simply due to the fact that she has learned from the death of her brother - that panicking can ruin everything and even cause deaths. She has no difficulty keeping a straight face.

Psychological Traits[?] - Often chooses thievery to resolve problems rather than honest work due to the fact that she couldn't hold down a job while she was moving around so much.

Habits - Completely zoning out during conversations, interrupting others, shaking her leg when sitting around - especially when impatient.

Relationships - Parents: Had an equal relationship with her parents. Song didn't really talk to them much, but she didn't shun them either. She was more interested in Earthbending than talking with her non-bending parents.

Brother - Had an extremely close relationship with her brother. They were inseparable and were often found practicing their bending or playing together. They rarely had any fights or arguments and when they did, it would be serious and last a few days before they made up.

Others - Will edit later.

Interactions -

[WILL FINISHED LATER. I'm going to bed...]

Character development for an OC that I came up with for a Legend of Korra Fanfiction. Constructive criticism is so very much welcomed!

Moved from the thread to keep the sub-forum from being too cluttered!

This is based off of a wonderful guide found here!

Munashii fleshing outness.

Backstory - Munashii was born in Omashu into a poor family. Her father was a non-bender who moved from a small Fire Nation town to the Earth-Kingdom city of Omashu. Her mother was an Earth-Bender. The two met at the market and the two had a child in the year 151 ASC. When Munashii was fifteen years old (166 ASC), she came across a starving and abandoned urban panther cub. She fed it some of her own food and ever since then the panther has been following her. She has taken to calling it Hummer. One year later after their meeting, her father was murdered by her own mother, who used her earth-bending to bury him alive. It is said that she was angry with him for apparently making their child (Munashii) evil and corrupted. We now know that her sanity had been slowly dwindling over the past few years. Her mother abandoned her and disappeared, never to be seen again. Munashii then grew a hatred of benders, including herself, and began to think that they were evil. She and her panther companion lived on the streets of Omashu until 168 ASC, when they began to hear rumors about the Equalist movement. Intrigued and fueled by hatred, they made the journey to Republic City to become a part of the movement.

Nationality - Most of her ancestors lived in the Fire Nation, while her biological mother was an Earthbender. [Earth Kingdom]

Personality - Cocky, decisive, unforgiving, hard-working, practical, reliable.

How Munashii would react if:

> Someone kidnapped Hummer.
Someone took him. Munashii fell to her hand and knees and let out an agonized cry in despair. He was gone! Her beloved panther, gone! Was he okay? What if they were hurting him? Anger bubbled within the pit of her stomach at the thought and she let out another shout in rage. "I swear I'll find you!" she screamed to the darkening sky before dropping her head. Sobs began to wrack her whole body and she ended up on the ground in a fetal position, clutching her knees to her chest and simply letting tears run down her muddy face. He was gone. Her one and only friend had disappeared.

> Bumps into someone at the market.
Munashii studied the myriad of fruits, picking one up and looking it over thoroughly. She glanced up at the merchant, who shot her a nervous smile. "How much?" she asked, hefting it with her hand before placing it in one of the pockets of her green cloak. While she did so, she slipped her hand into another pocket and pulled out a few silver pieces. She set it on the stand, "Will this do?" Eagerly the merchant nodded and swiped the money away. Munashii whirled to leave and suddenly crashed into the chest of a tall man. She looked up at him and gingerly stepped back. His face held an expression of anger as he glared down upon her. "Watch where you're going, pip squeak." growled the man before placing a meaty hand on her forehead and pushing her aside. Angrily, she stepped up and grabbed his wrist tightly. "Why don't you watch where YOU'RE going, bub? You're the one standing right on my damn heels!" she snapped. The man regarded her with a seething look, "You wanna go?" Munashii replied, "Gladly!" and promptly turned and fled. She would fight this behemoth another time.

Emotions - Prefers to hide her true emotions, rather than let it out. When she does vent, it is usually in the form of being more moody than usual or snapping at random people who happen to be near her. She lost both of her parents, so she hates to bring up that topic. If she speaks of them, it is usually very non-specific and she generally avoids the topic in general. Usually the mention of her parents brings her to tears. Bottling up her emotions usually caused her to be extremely irritable and affects her performance as a fighter and a thinker in an extremely negative way.

>Sad - Munashii is generally a sad person due to her rough childhood and history. She is often filled with grief over the death of her father and the disappearance and breakdown of her mother.
>Angry - She is often angry with her mother, who abandoned her at a young age without a word. She also tends to be angry with herself and blames herself for her mother's mental break down.
>Love - Once Munashii is attached to someone, she becomes very loving and would protect that person with everything she's got. She feels love for her few friends because she doesn't want them to ever know the feeling of being abandoned, like her mother had done to her. However, she often speaks few words to people she doesn't know, making it difficult for people to get to know her or become friends with her.

Psychological Traits? - Munashii is a closed person due to the fact that she tends to bottle up her emotions. She claims that she doesn't like to lay the burden of her own problems on other people, so she tends not to talk about her problems.

Habits - Biting her lip when in thought, saying sir/ma'am (brought up by her father), and cracking her knuckles.

Relationships -
>Father - She had an extremely close relationship with her father, who managed to spend time with her every day despite being a working man. He taught her the forms of firebending although he himself was not a firebender. Her father was a kind and loving man and always thought of her before he thought of himself.

>Mother - Was kind of iffy with her mother. Munashii's mother was stifling and let Munashii have little freedom. She described her mother as 'paranoid' sometimes. She never confided in her with any of her problems, if she had any, and tended to avoid her. Perhaps this is why her mother abandoned her and thought she was evil.

>Panther Companion, Hummer - A close friendship. The two rely on each other for more than survival. Hummer is fiercely loyal to Munashii and would gladly give his life to save hers.

>Tao - To Be Determined

Interactions - Munashii doesn't speak much to strangers, unless she needs something from them, they speak to her first, or they provoke/anger/irritate her. Once a person gets to know her and cracks down on the mental shell she's put up around her, she becomes very loving and affectionate. She never forgets a good friend and will protect them with everything she has, as mentioned above.

Appearance -

>Hair - Dark brown, long, thick, and straight/smooth. She often has it in a ponytail to keep most of it out of her eyes. However, she has a rough fringe so much of her hair is in her face anyways.

>Eyes - Yellow/Golden. Traditional Firebender eye-color.

>Body Structure - Tall. Often described as willowy. Her muscles are toned from long hours of practicing martial arts forms and sparring.

>Flaws? - Scar running down the right cheek, obtained when attacked by another urban panther. Another small nick/scar on the left side of her face, obtained from tripping while fleeing from an angry platypus bear during her journey to Republic City. She isn't extremely curvy.

>Clothes -

>>Everyday - Pale forest-green cloak with a hood. She wears a loose red and black martial arts top with the sleeves cut off at the shoulder. She also wears slightly baggy black pants that close around the ankle. Her shoes are actually black leather hiking boots.

>>Formal - Same attire without cloak. *Suggestions welcome

Mental Disorders - None. biggrin

Powers - Firebending. She was born with it. Although her biological father wasn't a bender himself, his side of the family came from the Fire Nation. She doesn't use her ability a lot because she views it as a curse. (Plus Amon would have her head if he found out...)

>Neutral - It can be good and it can be bad.

> Good - Offers warmth, light, totally bad a**.

> Bad - Will reveal her as a bender. She's not entirely good at bending. ...it burns.

Universe - The Avatar Universe o' course...

-Totally Skipping Sex life/turn ons, sorry fans!-

Preferences/Favorites -

Cat/Dog - Cat
Udon/Thin Noodles (Can't remember the name) - Thin Noodles
Chocolate/Vanilla - Vanilla
Beer/Wine - Beer
Coffee/Tea - Tea
Sitting/Standing - Standing
Sprinting/Jogging - Sprinting
Tall/Short - Tall
Dark/Light hair - Dark

Favorite Drink - Chai Tea
Favorite Type of Music - Anything with flutes. [Traditional Asian Style Music]

One extra misc. detail - Munashii does not go to Amon to intentionally take her bending away due to the fact that she fears his power.
