After everything that had happened, Malodore had been forced to begrudgingly admit one thing: it needed to practice combat a bit more. Quite a bit more, in fact... but such things were so messy. There was so little true thought involved, such a lack of precision. No time to properly consider one's options and place the knife exactly where it would be most useful.
But it had to be able to protect itself and others.
Malodore had been heading for its own room as it thought about how much it needed that practice - and then, suddenly, the turn that usually led to its own room led somewhere very different. It had taken several steps down this bizarre hallway before it realized that it wasn't actually in the Undead dormitory anymore...
A soft hiss escaped from its beak. It had heard about this place - this was where Red had died, where the members of Seeds had taken and killed a Hunter. The pathway lurked, and came to those in need...
... apparently wishing for combat practice was enough.
It would have preferred a bit more warning, though. Gaze narrowed behind the lenses, Malodore plucked some feathers from its wings and fanned them in one hand, slowing its pace to a more wary, careful movement. If the pathway responded to need, then there was little doubt that a fight awaited it.

Things were quiet so far, which could mean either a really good or a really bad thing. On one hand, it could mean there was no one else around. On the other, something could simply just be lurking around the corner ready to pounce on his a**. He hoped it wasn't the latter.
Shifting a bit, Deryk cautiously moved on around, stopping as he caught sight of something red. Turning more towards it, he noticed a creature clad in crimson. Metal wings, tail... and a peculiar mask. A plague doctor mask to be precise. There was little doubt in the hunter's mind that he had just run into one of the Halloween creatures. Was it a he or she? He couldn't tell. It also had what looked like a few of its metal feathers at hand.
Right now, he couldn't be sure if it was a hostile, so the hunter just stayed where he was, watching. He summoned Tooley just in case, however. He mostly didn't want to be caught off his guard. At the same time, he didn't want to startle the creature. Because of this, he managed to keep his mouth shut too.

The wings weren't too bad on their own. Deryk would have to move through them carefully, but it wasn't something too bad. However, before he could do anything of that nature, he felt the tailblade plunge into him. Wincing, the hunter shuddered as the feel of the metal cutting him in multiple locations didn't feel too good.
Tooley hummed quietly, reminding him that she would protect him. Even so, this hurt. Slowly, he opened his eyes to meet with the doctor's shuddering at its words. The doctor seemed very intent on killing him. And he still didn't know why.
"A couple probably. But. Not gonna die here. Not today. Not like this. Not to some creepy courtesan killer person thing."
Ok that last part was sort of imposed onto Mal, seeing how Deryk just sort of swapped this plague doctor with the templar one found in Assassin's creed. But still.
Gritting his teeth, the hunter brought his hand up and tried to shove it away from him, blade first.

The hand came up - and Malodore, opening its beak in a smile, swept the tailblade around, ignoring the rasp of the Hunter's blade on its own bloodmetal. "An incorrect hypothesis, I think," it said, almost dreamlike. The cage of its wings closed around them both.
... and it felt something change, some vestige of FEAR that had been surrounding the Hunter shatter and fall away as it was besieged by bladed feathers. The Hunter's hand, still outstretched... yes, what a lovely target. The tailblade went through one finger, grinding for a moment against bone before finding purchase with a highly unpleasant snap; as the bone's resistance shattered, the tailblade swept up, nicking the Hunter's face as it finished its arc.
"I have always wanted one of these," Malodore said, unfurling its wings and shoving the Hunter backwards before picking up the fallen digit.

Still smiling, Malodore advanced on the fallen Hunter - but he cried out a strange incantation and vanished before the plague doctor could get any closer. "Merde," Malodore hissed, grinding its beak together before taking a few steps back to lean against the nearest wall.
Without an immediate target, that sharp, visceral rage began to ebb, leaving Malodore feeling drained. It closed its eyes for a moment. It had been like being back on the remains of the Four Isles again, except this time it had had power, and used it freely, and won...
... but it hadn't brought Riley back, had it?
The plague doctor sighed, quietly. Now that the overwhelming anger was leaving it, it felt rather astonished at its own behavior. Everything had felt so crystal clear - it had been so certain that taking the life of a Hunter would somehow feel redemptive, cleansing. Healing.
Well, it had taken the finger of a Hunter, anyway. It opened its hand and stared at the severed digit, moving to sit down. Taking the sample away would only result in its dissipation, it knew. It would have to examine its prize here and now, and learn what it could... if there was anything to learn.
But a good dissection always calmed it. And the finger was still warm. It so loved a fresh sample...
Quietly, Malodore pulled out its tools, laying the finger down on the floor and hunching over it. It would learn, it would regain its control over itself, and it would return home.
Eventually.
