I have a dilemma {pix of cake}

Okay so it's my birthday weekend and I'm baking cake layers and one's chocolate

am I a bad person if the chocolate I used was past due in 2006

but I used it anyway

The texture and color will change slightly, but the chocolate is still edible.

It was... I'm not sure, but I think you were supposed to use it in baking. 72% cocoa.

It looked fine tho and I'm not dead after tasting the batter.

It's probably alright, but I wouldn't do it. Then again, I am far too fussy about use by dates and would worry too much about giving everyone out-of-date-chocolate poisoning.

Anyway, your cake sounds delicious, can I have some cake too? You won't be a bad person if you share!

it looks like blood tho so I kept a serial killer monologue in my head

I used (and still do to an extent) keep my candies I got as gifts for years before I would eat them.
it helped to make that present last longer than a couple days.

I'm not dead yet.
since it's baking chocolate, I'm assuming that was a best-by date or a pack-by date.
they put so much stuff in there it shouldn't hurt too much.

maybe you should eat your candy sooner? =]

Nah, probably not. Old chocolate's not gonna kill you. Might taste a bit off, though.

It probably won't harm you after being cooked in the oven...but I don't think it'd taste great. xd

I finished the cake and ate a slice

It tasted fine

Chocolate was the least delicious tho
