I was just curious if anyone else is using The Gimp art program. I am and I love it! biggrin

I usually use GIMP when I need photoshop, because I used GIMP for so long so when my school teachers tell me to use photoshop, I can never use it (the larger parts anyway). so I secretly use gimp. its free and easier to use than photoshop, so I like it.

I tried GIMP once. I downloaded it... and I really liked the simple interface...! biggrin

Then I got to working on this EPIC art, it was like... the best think I had ever done! And GIMP crashed and I lost it. ; n ;

And since then I just can't use it anymore. crying

That's happened to me too. There is a user mod that can program the "auto save" feature, but it's not part of the original program. Right now, my biggest problem is that it doesn't want to work with file sizes over 1.5MB. But still, free is free, and it works pretty well...when it works. ^_^

If I ever lost my copy of Photoshop, I would give it a shot again. I think GIMP is great for those who don't want to pay out the butt for a good art program!

I am a very proud Gimper. It has crashed on me more times than I can count, but I just learned to save often.
So far, it is the best free drawing program I have found and I really enjoy using it.

GIMP is a great free alternative for Photoshop biggrin
It has a great range of user-created brushes (as well as being compatible with most user-created Photoshop brushes) and plugins, especially GIMP FX Foundry and GIMP Paint Studio.

I've been thinking about trying out Sai. How is it different?

I've worked with Sai and have been trained in PS Elements, cs3, and cs5. I've used Corel and a few other random programs, but I always return to gimp

Gimp is a simple, user-based program that is endlessly customizable. I'm actually an artist by profession and I prefer this program over the competition.

I can't resist crayons either. ^_^

Right now I'm having trouble with my style. I've identified the source of the trouble--I'm too detail oriented. My pictures come out stiff, like still lifes or just too posed. So I'm practicing gesture drawings to try to loosen up. razz
