Elsie tried not to cringe. They'd had about thirteen people at tryouts last year. This year there were... nine, counting herself. She'd been foolish, she admitted, and expected as large of a turnout despite the fact they were down three first string players to begin with from the previous year. Obviously, there were not enough people to play two full teams against each other. Smaller teams could work... or she could just have them play specifically for their position. She leafed through the forms carefully, then stepped forward and raised her voice. She didn't remember yelling having been this hard when she was an energetic, chatty child. Now that she was a much more subdued teen, it was nowhere near as easy, but she tried her best. She needed to have a handle on the team, or no one would listen to a word that came out of her mouth. "Thank you all for coming to tryouts! I'm Elsie Vass, some of you might know me as a seventh year prefect and your captain. I'm graduating in the spring, so you'll only have this year with me as your captain, and hopefully we can all work together to make it a good one. My vice captain is Cathy League-," she gestured towards the other girl, "Who will be your captain next year. I know in the past at tryouts we've played mock teams against each other, but there's not that many people here compared to previous years, so here's what we're going to do. Seekers! Layton, Alice! I'll release the snitch and you two will play against one another without having to worry about bludgers- at least those directed by beaters, anyways. Keepers! Emily and Lionel! I want you each in one of the goal posts on opposing ends of the pitch. Be prepared to block the quaffle if it comes your way. Chasers! Cathy and Rider will play against each other trying to steal and score with the quaffle. Cathy I want you to be aiming for the goal posts Emily is defending, and Rider, I want you to aim for the ones Lionel is. Beaters! Jasper, would you mind showing Zephyros the ropes?" She desperately hoped the sixth year caught her drift: please don't let the first year get horribly injured because that would be very, very bad. She waited for everyone to mount their brooms before cautiously releasing the bludgers and the snitch into the air, and throwing the quaffle up herself. She shot up into the air as well, though she kept out of the way to keep an eye on everyone and make mental notes in her head.
