Instead of her typical pigtails for quidditch, Cathy decided to opt for pulling her hair up in a bun and practically bounced onto the field the still ridiculously expensive (and a waste of money-especially for a sport that could easily maim you-as her brother claimed) from her maternal grandparents a year earlier in her hand. She was older, taller (well half an inch but still), actually was a teenager now and beginning to look like the older students-she at least had two years of Hogwarts behind her-and she had played four quidditch games last year. Sure she might have been the worst chaser on the field for Hufflepuff-but she was there and that counted for something. And maybe she was best at avoiding bludgers and stealing the quaffle, but that was still important too-she could still help her house team win she figured. Besides, with advance flying I under her belt and a year of quidditch she felt confident enough she could at least make the starting line as a chaser-even if she was one of the worst. And hell, David was making her take healing because she insisted on trying out and playing quidditch (though Cathy would like to point out-he wasn't complaining his girlfriend played quidditch-or at least he wasn't as vocal about it), she would see Hell freeze over if she got stuck as only a reserve.
Smiling at Corabell, the captain, she picked up a quidditch application and began to fill it out in her exact print. It was pretty similar to the same no-nonsense handwriting her brother used. Exact and legible. Maybe it was a family thing? Then again, Cathy just liked to think of it as keeping things simple and easier to communicate.

Elsie, always delighted to be back on the pitch, smiled warmly at the team captain, Corabell Kiremono, as she took a form to fill out. She wrote quickly, but tried to keep her bubbly handwriting legible, before handing it back in. She wasn't really nervous, since she was fairly sure she'd be getting a spot first string this year, being one of the oldest chasers, but that didn't mean she was going to rest easy and let her playing slip. She was competitive, more so than most people would assume upon meeting her, and that really shone when she was up in the air. You had to be aggressive, as a chaser. Otherwise you'd never lay hands on the quaffle. And she'd worked up quite the reputation for stealing it over the years. She knew her talent had always seemed to lie in getting it away from opposing players, rather than scoring. She began to stretch her muscles, trying to get her long limbs warmed up.

I'm back in Liverpool,
And everything seems the same...
But I worked something out last night,
That changed this little girl's brain! A small piece of advice,

One of the reasons Jess had decided that she was going to throw herself, all of herself, into Quidditch this year was because it was a very lovely distraction, and she didn't have a significant other to distract her, she still despised schoolwork too much for that to truly distract her, so it was gonna have to be good old Quidditch. She had a right to be caught up in it, she was the team seeker, after all. She'd even debated trying to encourage/nag/blackmail Eleazar to give it a go this year, but seeing as the last time she'd so much as approached him he'd beat a hasty retreat into his common room, leaving her to curse out the eagle head thingy that gave out riddles she didn't have the patience to even attempt to solve. Maybe her younger brother had ESP, and that was how he knew what she was going to say. Or... maybe he just hated her now. She didn't know. She didn't understand any of her brothers, anymore. When she was younger she did, when they were always together, but now it was like they were each on diverging roads, and all she could do was watch them. The problem with Eleazar was that she was terrified he was either on a very bad, dangerous road, or that he wasn't on a road at all. She, lost in her own thoughts for once, silently took a form and filled it out, before sitting down and getting one leg all the way behind her head. She was quite flexible, and it was sorta fun, freaking people out with the way she could twist her short arms and legs almost into knots.

Jasper followed Alice onto the pitch. His thoughts were on how long she was going to keep this up. He knew she didn't really care for Quidditch as much as she tried out each year for it. No, quidditch was more his thing and he knew that. However, Alice still kept playing even if she continued to make reserve.
When Alice called to him that's when Jasper came back to reality. He was holding his broom in his hand the one Alice talked the Lancaster's into buy for them. At first he hadn't wanted it but honestly he couldn't be happier she decided to ask for them both. Smiling at Alice it didn't take much for Jasper to catch up. "Morning," he spoke quietly like always as he took the forum and filled it out. By now it was second nature.

My heart can't possibly break.....
Iris slipped down to the quidditch field, broom in hand. A small scrape marred one arm, from a tumble that morning when the stairs had moved. Which would have been fine, if she'd been walking down the stairs, instead of jumping from the railing. Oh well, she'd been back up again right away, and a bludger would probably do worse during tryouts. Grabbing a form, she quickly filled it out.

It looked like everyone who was going to come had arrived. Corabell was a bit disappointed the turn out this year was so much lighter than last year, but there were at least enough students for a full team.
"Okay, first things first. Raphael, Jessamine, you are both great players, but we're the same year, so appointing either of you as my vice captain would leave us without a captain or vice captain in two years. So, with that in mind, Elsie, are you willing to take on the mantle of vice captain?" Corabell asked.

Corabell checked the applications. With a bit of a shrug, she looked around at the players. "Okay, we've got two chasers and four potential beaters. So Cathy, Elsie, congrats, you're chasers! Iris, you've played chaser before, would you fill our third slot? For the rest, our team meshed well last year, so other than moving Jasper from reserves to the starting team, I'd like to keep our lineup intact. That means Alice will be the reserve seeker, Emily, you'll take over keeper for me if I can't play, and Chase, you'll be the reserve beater. Is this okay with everyone?" Corabell asked.
She hoped the team didn't mind bypassing the usual tryout phase, but the players this year were all already known, and their lineup was fairly solid except for the chaser shortage. Emily was the only one who hadn't been on the team last year, and while it would be good to have a reserve and give the girl some time to practice, it simply didn't make sense to replace the team captain with a first year player.

My heart can't possibly break.....
Iris thought for a moment. She did love playing beater, but she wasn't going to get a starting slot. And...she knew her teammates. After two years, they actually felt like a team. After a long moment of indecision, Iris' chin came up. She'd trust her team. But she wasn't loyal. If they betrayed her, she'd just leave the team, and that would be that. Until then, she'd trust Raphael and Jasper, or Chase, to keep her as safe as they could, and Cathy and Elsie to fly beside her.
A weight seemed to fall away, and Iris smiled, a rare, real smile, instead of her usual cheerful mask. "Yeah, I can cover chaser," she agreed. She'd do her best, give it her all, and see what happened.
