Jess couldn't locate the snitch yet again, and she was getting near hysterical. Forcing herself to calm down; it was just a tryout game, after all, and if Terren made first string she should be happy for him, she slowed a little, looking around for the gold ball. If she just concentrated, she should be able to see it.

He was getting closer. The Snitch was just a few feet in front of him now. Just a little bit further, and Terren could attempt to catch it. He smiled at the thought, wishing for it to become a reality.

Jess wanted to whimper. Terren was going to catch it, and she was going to be a loser. It had occurred to her that she might be taking this way too seriously, but she didn't care. She just wanted that snitch. She looked this way and that, craning her neck in various directions.

This was it. He had to catch the Snitch. It was right there in front of him! He couldn't miss it this time. Terren reached his hand out, hoping to grab the pesky little golden ball.

That girl had quite an arm. She nearly made it past Corabell, who had been on the team for a few years now. The Keeper tossed the ball his way. Cain caught it and tucked it under his arm. "Nice save, Cora!" he called to his Keeper with a grin and a wink. The Chaser took off down the Pitch, nodding to Chloe and Ada to guard his flanks. He didn't want those girls to make a fool of him again, no matter how fun this was turning out to be.

He missed it! Terren glanced behind him, where Jess was catching up fast. He only had one shot at this! The nervous boy reached out again. "Here, Snitchy, Snitchy, Snitchy. Get in my hand, please."

Elsie sighed. She hadn't made it in. The keeper, an older girl named Cora, had just managed to catch it. But that didn't mean she couldn't try again later. Right now, she took off after Cain, intending to steal. She drew close and lunged for the quaffle.

Chloe followed behind Cain. She had his back. If either girl stole the quaffle she'd fight to get it back. She was determined to be a help to her teammates while up in the air and even off the pitch.

Ally sighed as the Keeper blocked their goal. But just barely. Flying past she smiled at Elsie, ”Great shot! Let’s keep it up. Next time it will be a goal.” Cora threw the Quaffle back to Cain, their old Grandpa, and he headed up the field with it. Wheeling her Cleansweep around, she set off on his trail. So far their strategy of persistence and enthusiasm was working out. No reason to stop that now. Diving in, she reached out to snatch the Quaffle from Cain’s grasp.

Elsie had made a try first and came up empty. But Ally still had luck on her side. Swooping in, she separated Chaser from Quaffle and was turned back towards the hoops that Cora guarded with a thieve’s smile on her lips. Flying under Elsie she threw the Quaffle upward to circle around and flank her on their path back down the field. The two had been working together fantastically so far, no need to jinx a good thing now.

Darn! He lost the Quaffle just like that. Well, not for long! Cain dove in to steal the ball back. For a First Year, she was an amazing thief, which was both great and highly annoying.

Cain nabbed the Quaffle right back from her and took off down the field. He had to get away from them! The boy leaned in close to his broom, gaining speed. He felt really bad that Chloe didn't get to have much time with the Quaffle. He felt the same for Ada. But these girls just wouldn't stop with the stealing!
