◙○The Moon's Kiss○◙

User Image

May you live a long healthy life. May lady luck smile upon you always. May the world's happiness be yours. And may you find your true love. And may that love of yours be fruitful in her births. May she bear you a child of perfect condition. And may your family live well.

But just as you are cursed now, may the first son of every generation as well. May he be enslaved by the dark nature that steals your soul. And may he be a slave to the lunar cycle. May he live long and well, and know what true happiness is, just as you do now. For upon the age of manhood, when he has yet to live truthfully in the real world, may he be cursed. And have all his happiness lost then...

Just as mine is now...

With my dying breath, I curse you with

The Moon's Kiss.

│The Story│

There are many legends from long ago. From the era of superstitions, when the intellectual world was just on the brink of all its scientific breakthroughs but when the imagination was still wild and strong. Many of them, in the modern world now, can be denied and then scientifically proven. They can be explained and studied. But there are still some that exist today, that have yet to be proven. These are the ones that make up our fairy tales and horror stories. The ones some of us write books about or tell children. Some even are still used as superstitions. And there is a legend. One of good will, desires, love, betrayal, tragedy, death, and a curse. A curse called The Moon's Kiss. Some say it simply one of the many stories about those bound to the moon, who must answer its call. People call them lycans or werewolves. But the truth of this story, is there are no werewolves.

In the small city of Ridgewood Valley, there is a legend. A curse. It is said that the Vinarr family bloodline was cursed by a demon long, long ago. In the time of their great-great-great-grandfather, Gregory Vinnar. In the beginnings of this small city, it was but a simply village whose people believed only in the equality of each other. And Gregory was of no exception to this, so it was no surprise that he rescued a young man one night who had almost drowned in the river and became very ill.

Nursing him back to health, he learned the young man's name was Ikle and was captivated by his silver hair and almost glowing green eyes. Teaching him the ways of brotherhood and workmanship, Ikle became like a brother to him. He thanked Gregory often for having saved him but some reason never understood why.

And this may be so as Ikle had secrets of his own. His dark soul and banished body. And the love that now thrived in his in human heart.

But this remained unseen. In time, Ikle grew confidence to at last tell Gregory of his feelings for him but instead, only had his heart shattered. For Gregory, already had a lover, another woman. The young man fled and Gregory followed. But in the end, words meant nothing and there would be no reassurances as Ikle revealed that he was a demon and cursed the other. Gregory would from then on be a slave to the lunar cycle and upon every full moon he would turn into a blood thirsty and pained demon. However, the demon's revenge was short-lived as the woman lover shot him. With his dying breath, Ikle cursed him further. For it is said that a demon's heart beats stronger and harder. Once it knows a love, it knows no other and for it to be broken is an eternity of pain. So Ikle would curse the Vinarr family as such. Upon the eighteenth birthday of every first born son, they would also be cursed just as Gregory was.

It was called The Moon's Kiss.

It remains only a legend however, the curse held in utter secrecy from Ridgewood Valley. The current Vanirr residents are only two: an older sister and her younger brother. With the brother's eighteenth birthday drawing near, however, they wonder how much longer this happiness can last as it becomes more and more difficult with each generation to hide the curse. The elder sister even now is in love and has a boyfriend but fears the future. The younger brother has fought his own romantic life.

But not for long...

Because secretly, his heart desires one. His best friend who knows and understands him better than any. It is only two days until his birthday and lucky for them it is summer break. So the time to celebrate is always.

Can he admit his love to his friend? Can he fight off the curse? Or will he be bound forever, destroyed and ever captivated to The Moon's Kiss?

Read the Full Legend Here.

│The Plot│

The time is the modern world in a small city known as Ridgewood Valley. It's values and traditions follow the same lines as it did in the past where each person is equal. Each citizen helps each other out. The population has grown exponentially since that past era but it is still a small city with only one high school, one junior high and one elementary. It's surroundings are a hilled region, some flatland for farming and a long river.

The son of the Vanirr family is to turn eighteen in only two days. Preparations within that household are almost complete. Preparations to help him fight the change of course. He has become somewhat secretive has not allowed any of his friends, even his closest into his house for the last week. Nor has he gone anywhere.

However, today is a little different and he is confident that between his older sister, who has raised him since he can remember, and he, he will be just fine. So he has relaxed and decided to stay out after school with his good friend. But there is another reason - that he has realized he is in love with his best friend...and ponders whether to tell him or not but fears the other does not share his feelings.

For the role play, I expect you to use proper grammar and punctuation usage. This means capitalization, periods where they're supposed to be, commas where necessary, and correct spelling. I understand people make mistakes, so I won't outright punish you for slip-ups and such. But if it's a post to post ordeal, I will bring it up to you, privately. This also means, no one-liners! There is not a single situation where this could ever occur! Therefore, I expect plenty of description. Give everyone something to work with, make your character. RESERVED - Rurouni Mori
My name is...

Daniel Vanirr

I am...

Seventeen.
He will, however, be eighteen in two days.

I was born a...

Male

My tastes desire...

Only Men
However, he has yet to tell his friend this...mostly because his friend is his love.

They see me...

Daniel seems to always be smiling, his oddly colored eyes always warm and reassuring. He's very kind and helpful when he can be. He is both physically strong and elegant at the same time. He is completely open-minded and has no problem trying new things. At home, he helps his sister with what he can or his neighbors. In school, he has straight A's and sometimes offers to tutor others who are having difficulties. For clubs and sports, he participate's in track and field as his endurance seems endless and he is extremely agile. With his friends, he laughs easily and listens well. But he spends most of his time, with his best friend.

The truth is...

When he was only five years old, he and his sister became orphans. One full moon, his father had begun to lose control. He knew it and feared for his family. But his wife would not let him simply leave. In the end, the two ended up dead, having drowned in the river. Strangely enough, however, there was a slight smile on their lips as they were frozen in death, embracing each other. Daniel remembers nothing of it and doesn't know the details. Since his sister, Nina, was five years older than him, she took the liberty and responsibility to raise him. Especially since at such a young age, she knew of the curse and ways to handle it.

Nina went to school, worked part time, raised her littler brother and researched the curse. Growing up quickly, she became a strong-willed and courageous woman. Many people of the town have helped her but some feel it's not enough has many owe her for all the help she's given. And many have watched as the two Vanirr children grew up and matured.

So, Daniel feels he owes his sister a lot for everything she's done for him and everyone else. He does the best he can for her and others and takes proper care of himself. He plans on becoming a doctor. Not only to help people, but to find a way to subdue the curse. For even he knows, it seems to get stronger with each passing generation. And he fears it...

So I look like this...

My name is...

Hayashi, Kaoru ~ 林薫 ~ (Fragrant Woods)

I am...

Eighteen

I was born a...

Male

My tastes desire...

Strictly Male
Which has been a point of constant ridicule his entire life

They see me...

Seen to be quiet and shy, those who don't take the time to get to know Kaoru truly miss out on his own personal charm. In his spare time, Kaoru enjoys drawing, writing in a notebook that no one has ever read save himself, and archery. He is an accomplished archer, having even once gone to a competition outside of the village. However, Kaoru's softer side is best seen when he is playing the piano, for the young man has a genius gift for music.
Many people think him cold and aloof at times, but Kaoru's only problem is that he likes to keep to himself... except where Daniel is concerned. His best friend knows him better than anyone, and while Kaoru may not be athletic like Daniel, he certainly enjoys his friend's company. In fact, on various occasions girls have tried to flirt with Kaoru or ask him out, but he is a bit muddled in the ways of love and has always either politely declined... or simply not understood the girl's advances. Thus, he earned a reputation of being rather feminine and probably 'into guys'.

The truth is...

Kaoru was in love with his elder brother, Hayashi Kazuya (林和也 Harmonious Woods) growing up. However, in order to support their family after their parent's died in a fire, Kazuya left the village for the city and sent money back home monthly. Kaoru's crush on his brother was hidden so deeply, that no one in the village had ever noticed. However, because of that bond, it's been hard for Kaoru to get close to anyone at school in a romantic fashion. Kaoru lives alone now in a two story house, with monthly correspondence from his brother.
Kaoru is captain of the archery team and class president. His most prized possession is a black grand piano that his brother worked hard to purchase and send him.
He knows nothing of Daniel's crush on him, however...

So I look like this...

There was silence. Only the silence. Not even the sounds of the singing birds nor the sighs of the mountains. Just silence. The air was thick and heavy, filled with anxiety. Time slowed its ever-spinning pirouette. It was not he that moved but that the world would move for him and bend to his will. Indigo orbs swirled, determination and fierceness alive with flickering flames within his eyes. The blond ribbons flowing as his head tilted down, his body like liquid taking the elegant shape as he prepared to launch forward. Peering back up, his pupils dilated and then focused sharply. Inhaling slowly, his chest expanded with the required oxygen. Silence.

Suddenly, he pushed off. The familiar fire coursed through his body like the roar that catches to the gas. But this was no ordinary fire of the mortal body, alerting the user of its strain or exertion. No, this was the the fires of a power unlike any. It lent him the strength, the ability to exceed beyond others, do what they could not. It seemed like he could fly down that track of red gravel. The sharp eyes remained only on the mat and the bar above it. It was set at a seemingly impossible height but for him, it was never daunting. With ease, he placed his feet in the correct positions, in the exact order, his body curving to the side. With a push, he leaped and twisted in the air, his toned body flowing on the air currents and glided over bar. As he hit the mat, the world returned and the sounds crashed back in like the returning tide.

"You never cease to amaze me, Dan." One of his buddies smiled at him, helping him up before handing him a bottle of water, which Daniel consumed entirely.

Laughing, his voice like a melody, "I'm not that good-" His words were cut off by a punch to the face and being pushed back down into the mat. Turning, his friend sighed and started to walk away, "Which is why every hot girl in this school is standing there drooling over you! Hurry up and change!" Daniel laughed again and slid off the mat. Glancing over at the girls, they all giggled and waved. He smiled and waved back. Looking away, there was a brief moment when the smile faded before it was immediately back. Would it matter still if they knew he wasn't human? Shaking his head, he walked quickly to the locker room to change. If he hurried, he would get to see Kaoru at archery. A pleasure he would not deny himself - seeing the most beautiful person in such grace.

The pull... that wonderful pressure on the elbow as the string is pulled back taunt... Holding it... keeping it steady... keeping every muscle in perfect stillness...
Holding a position that long, bow strung with arrow notched... it would eventually start to hurt. But the pain wasn't something that he realized on a conscious level... not while aiming...

Gazing off into the distance at the target, his arm perfectly parallel... a straight line... Kaoru focused.

He didn't hear a sound. Not the twang of other bowstrings or the thud of arrows finding their mark in the target. Feet planted shoulder width apart, body turned gracefully at the waist... he seemed more a statue than a man.

Lithe fingers held the notched arrow, tips so very nearly grazing soft lips as they kept the pull tight. His hair was pulled back away from his face in a low hanging ponytail. His usually baggy clothes were gone, put away in the locker room for later. Such clothes got in the way of his perfect aim, after all... Clad in grey pants and a white short sleeved button-up shirt, it was easy to tell how focused he was.

Hell, he didn't even wear an arm bracer anymore, for a finger guard.
They were obsolete tools for him... hindrances more than aids these days...

Suddenly a light breeze blew, picking up his hair and blowing it out behind him elegantly. His brown eyes narrowed just a tiny bit, before it happened.

TWANG!

Fingers released the arrow and the string, the man moving not even a centimeter as the projectile flew straight and true, striking the very center of the target.

"Another perfect short, Kaoru." said the instructor, a few other students gathering around with words of praise for the flawless accuracy. "That makes what... twenty in a row?"

Nodding, Hayashi Kaoru let his bow fall to his side and he turned, smiling softly at the man. "It also means... that I'll be heading back to the locker room."

The instructor laughed, "A deal's a deal I suppose. You practice til you get twenty in a row, then I let you off the hook. Too bad the rest of the team's only half as accurate as you are."

"They just need focus." Kaoru replied, carefully unstringing his bow and looping the end around the top to keep the string from getting worn out too quickly. He slung the weapon over his shoulder and headed back inside toward the locker room.

Absently... he wondered how Daniel had done in track today...

Hurrying, Daniel reached the other side of the athletic grounds, his back pack slung over one shoulder. The sun was alive, able to shine at its brightest without its fellow clouds in the sky. Wearing converse and his usual dark jeans, Daniel chose to wear his usual long sleeved shirt. Today's being one that was grey and plain but had a v-shape for its neckline allowing anyone to see just a mere amount of his chiseled body. Adjusting his hair a little, his trained eyes scanned the area, quickly deducing that Kaoru was no longer in the area. Sighing to himself, he turned and walked through the athletics building to wait by the front door.

Ridgewood Valley was a smaller city, but a well funded one none the less. The school focused both on athletics and the art for the city itself put large amounts of its money into funding its high school. This way the students would have the freedom to explore their passions. There were in total three buildings: the left was the athletics with two separate playing fields on either side of it for the varying sports, the center was the main and the largest building with four floors, and the right one was focused entirely on arts with multiple stages and theaters for different productions. It was one of the few things that the people of this city prided themselves on.

Coming at last to the main entrance, Daniel sat on one the benches, setting his some what empty back pack between his feet. Leaning back, he rested his head against the wall and closed his eyes. Only two days of school left. Lucky for him, this meant there would be no school on his birthday. Only two days. Sighing softly, he relaxed there as he waited. He would get to spend these two days with Kaoru and for a moment, he second guessed if he could tell him. But he knew he would, he had to. This was their last year of high school together. He didn't have any time left. So for now, in this moment, he would relax. His smooth face appeared soft, following the incline of his his nose and the supple curve of his lips. Sitting there, he looked very much at peace.

Walking out of the athletics building, Kaoru happened to glance over at the arts complex. He was always in the arts building on the days that it rained... or on Mondays through Wednesdays. Thursdays and Fridays were reserved for archery alone... weather permitting. And the instructor didn't seem it mind that... since Hayashi had an almost perfect bullseye count to his name. No one else in the school could match him, that was for sure, so it allowed the young man a few freedoms other members of the archery team weren't afforded.

For a moment, Kaoru wondered if he should pay a visit to the arts complex. He had been working on composing a piece of music, and would have enjoyed getting some feedback from the conductor... but...

Well, then he spotted Daniel, laying on a bench in front of the school, obviously in another world entirely.

Walking over, Kaoru's bag in one hand, for he didn't carry a backpack like most students and instead opted for a sort of messenger briefcase bag, the young man just stared at his friend for a moment.

Then, he bent over Daniel from behind, long strands of hair falling from their precarious perch and enshrouding his own face and his friend's from view.

For a few moments, he didn't say a word. Kaoru remained completely silent.
Then...

"If you sleep there, you'll catch a cold when it rains." he teased, brown eyes focused on Daniel's closed gaze.

Daniel lay there, utterly relaxed, his mind beginning to float into a gentle sea whose currents were warm and inviting. His hands folded together on his chest. Hair falling back, overlapping itself before allowing gravity to take it, hanging off his slightly raised head from the bench. Breathing softly, he was completely within his own mind and was totally unaware of the other. That he had even approached him or leaned so very close to him.

The others sweet voice jolted him to reality, his eyes flying open and inhaling sharply. He froze. Staring into the precious brown eyes, seeing those full lips. The elegant curve of his jaw. He could barely breathe, swallowing tightly. Kaoru's beautiful hair blocked them from view...if he could have just one kiss...

Moving suddenly, he laughed, rubbing the back of his head to adjust his hair once more. Had he seen the look in his eyes? The hunger that Daniel had for him? Standing up, he stretched, "You're probably right. Uh, how was practice?" He didn't look back at him but his expression was his usual. A smile always on his lips, his eyes warm. Grabbing his bag, he slung it over his shoulder before turning back to the other. He had to tell him...

Leaning back out of Daniel's way, so their heads wouldn't bump together, Kaoru kept the smile on his face. "Practice was practice. Dull, boring, uneventful. I would have rather gone to work on my music today..." the young man said as he straightened, tossing long strands of brown hair back behind him.

"It's rare to see you so unguarded." the archer replied with a tiny bit of a smirk. "Did something happen at practice? You... seem a bit distracted. Off from your usual self."

Of course Hayashi was completely oblivious to the look in Daniel's eyes. He saw it of course, but had no idea what it meant nor did he really contemplate on it.
That was just Daniel.

"Did you have plans after school?" Kaoru suddenly asked, "If not I... well I was going to head to the river and watch the sunset later." his smile turned a bit embarrassed. "I... need a little more inspiration for the piece I'm composing... and water seems to be the best source for my soul. If you wanted to join me..."

His eyes followed the others motions, watching the others lithe movements and elegant grace. What was wrong with him today? Pretending to fix the straps on his back pack, he looked away. Hearing him being questioned, he looked up and met the smirk. Chuckling, he smiled again, "I'm just excited for school to be done and over with. And I'm gonna be eighteen."

Daniel relaxed a little, realizing he had nothing to worry about or to stress about, at least not for now. Kaoru knew little of his true feelings, if anything at all. As well, it appeared he was completely oblivious to any slips he had. So, settling back into his usual cheery self, he continued to smile happily.

However, this invitation was almost too much for him. For a moment, all he wanted to was throw himself to the skies and thank the gods for being on his side and gifting him with such a blessing. The river? And a sunset? What more could he ask for! The smile spread a little as he nodded, "Sure, let's go! You lead the way, mister artist." Stepping back, he motioned dramatically like a gentleman. Dan always enjoyed being a little bit random and sometimes a joker, but he only ever relaxed so around Kaoru.

"You're catching up to me. No fair." Koaru teased, turning slightly and taking a few steps past the 'dramatic gentleman'. "I... I've been trying to figure out what to get you for your birthday. Is there anything in particular you'd like?"

A simple question.
Though to Daniel it probably seemed like a loaded one...

As Hayashi lead the way from school and down the street, it only took the pair about fifteen minutes to reach the river on foot.

"Come on, let's go upstream for a bit, away from town. It'll be more... peaceful there." Kaoru spoke seriously, staying on the city side of the river as he walked, careful to stay on the sidewalk and keep his shoes from getting muddy.

After a time, the musician stopped and sat down on the curb. They were a ways from the school, but still within the city limits, though one really couldn't tell it by the scenery.

"I'm... sad that school will be over soon." Kaoru whispered, propping his elbow up on one knee and placing his chin in his hand, long hair trailing on the concrete ground behind him where he sat. "It's rather depressing to think about... all we've ever known was this... and now it's going to change."

It was, indeed, a loaded question. And it was no surprise that he stumbled on his words as he was very close to blurting out 'you'. Shaking his head, he simply shrugged and did his usual, "I dunno...nothing?" He smirked devilishly, knowing how annoying it can be. Quickly changing the subject, "It's really nice outside! It'll be nicer sitting by the river..." His thoughts completed that statement...with you.

The rest of the way, Daniel was silent. His mind began to whirl as they got further from the school. The closer they got to the river, the dryer his mouth became. The further upstream they went, the louder his heart was in his ears. For a brief moment, the young man wondered if the other could hear the thunder of his yearning heart. It's calling. Still, he remained silent, focusing on placing one foot before the other and not at the desirable figure before him. Chewing on his lip, he wondered if it was okay to fall for Kaoru who had once been in love with his brother. It had shattered him. And standing from the side lines, there was nothing Dan could have done at the time...though he wish there had been...he couldn't bear to see those brown eyes so wounded.

If he hadn't looked up just in time to see the other stop, he probably would have crashed right into him. That would not have ended well. So much for that love story. Quietly, he sat down by the other. Close but not too close. The purple eyes stared forward. To the river and then just past it, a small field before the forest's domain began. It really was beautiful here, living in Ridgewood Valley. He really couldn't think of living anywhere else. And for a moment, he wondered if he ever could live anywhere else but here.

Looking over to Kaoru, he watched him. All he wanted to do was wrap his arms around him and pull him into his lap. To tell him it didn't have to end here. They could live here for all an eternity if he wanted. But there were many steps before that. Looking back out to the river, he was quiet for a minute before his voice, soft and gentle, was heard, "Yeah...Kaoru, there's something I've been meaning to tell you..." He paused, looking down at himself with hesitation. Why was it never easy to say? Daniel glanced quickly at the other and then out to the river.

Taking a somewhat shaky breath, he whispered, "I love you..."

"I have to get you something for your birthday. What kind of best friend would I be if I didn't?" the young man asked, turning from where he sat to gaze at his friend.

Daniel wanted to tell him something?
Well, he was all ears. Usually when his friend got THIS serious, it was something important, and Hayashi wasn't the type of person to just half-a** listen to another's words.

I love you...

Kaoru hadn't noticed Daniel's uneasiness as they headed to the river. He hadn't heard the pounding of the man's heart or seen him chewing on his lip.
In fact, he hadn't been paying that much attention to his friend at all as they walked, just simply comfortable being next to the young man who... well... who actually understood him.

Daniel was the only person in the entire village that knew about Kazuya. Not about the man's existence... but about Kaoru's feelings toward his elder brother.
He was the only person who saw the joy in the younger Hayashi's eyes, every time he finally received that much anticipated letter from his beloved brother...

But... Daniel also understood that because of that relationship, Kaoru was very loath to trust anyone romantically. He'd always been an idiot when a girl tried to ask him out, never really understanding why someone would flirt with him or hit on him in the first place.
Daniel had also been there to defend his friend when those jealous of his popularity... threatened to undo him.

Kaoru was attracted to the male physical form, and somehow he knew his friend understood that concept... but Hayashi himself had never pegged Daniel as one to harbor a taste so akin to his own...

At least, until now...

Brown eyes opened wider, and for the longest time, Kaoru could only stare at Daniel in complete bewilderment.

"You... you love me?" the young man asked, not quite sure if he'd heard right.

Or, maybe he had and he just wanted to confirm it one more time.

"Da... Daniel... is this the something that's been bothering you? That you've wanted to tell me?" Kaoru asked softly, finding himself suddenly torn between running away... and just changing the subject altogether.

Daniel didn't want to look back to him. He didn't want to meet those beautiful brown eyes. To see his reaction. Was it loathing? Fear? Confusion? Or maybe even hate...he didn't want to think about that. Almost as soon as he said, he wanted to take it all back. But it wouldn't solve anything. The chiseled jaw tensed slightly. Closing his eyes against all his fears, he would take responsibility for what he felt and what he had said.

Looking to Kaoru at last, he found his fears met. It was undetermined if the other shared his feelings. But he wasn't even sure if this was possible. He could see it, that he wanted to run, not talk about this. That he was confused and had truly been oblivious all this time.

Kaoru was his best friend. Just like Daniel understood him, so did he understand Daniel. He knew that if he wasn't smiling, there was something wrong. He knew about the hardships that Nina and Daniel had struggled through growing up and just how hard he had worked to repay his sister...and that he never felt it was enough. He had been there for the rumors, of a 'curse' and had helped to protect, just like Daniel always protected him. But he never knew of the truth...about who he was...or how he truly felt.

His eyes were no longer alive with their usual energy. They were flat, vacant. Open holes for those to peer into his soul. And there was pain there. Looking back down, he was quiet still, still whispering, "I...I know...I'm sorry. It's just...I really really like you...I love you...and it's just-I wanted you to know..." He looked back up to him. There was passion in those words. What Daniel said, he meant. And this situation was no different from the rest. He knew for certain how he felt and he needed the other to know, even if it meant they could not see each other anymore. Because the pain of having to hide it would be far greater to him, than to have the other never knowing.

Swallowing, Kaoru looked away. The young man stood to his feet, wrapping his arms around his body as he simply remained where he was standing, brown eyes on the river.

The wind blew his long hair about, the sleeves of his baggy white shirt whipping in the breeze. But Hayashi never moved... just stood there... long lithe fingers grasping at his shirt as he held himself.

"Why are you apologizing?" Kaoru eventually asked, though his expression was impossible to make out as he stared at the water. "I should be the one to apologize... because I didn't notice... I... I just thought we were friends, Daniel. Really close but really good friends... not..." sighing, the young man tilted his head back and looked up at the partially cloudy blue sky.

A sky that was beginning to show the first signs of sunset.

"Have you loved me all this time?..." it was a whispered question. "Even... even when I told you about Kazuya... did you still love me? Did you not think me appalling or grotesque? Taboo or..." brown eyes moved as he looked to his friend. "Cursed?"
