Ok...so I had a very interesting childhood regarding my foreign media. One of the anime that impacted me the most was Blue Seed. I remember thinking
Kusanagi was a pretty badass dude. I rented DVDs of it at the video store. Now the collection proudly sits in my cabinet, along with other childhood classics: Escaflowne (absolutely adore Dilandau & Van...still hate Hitomi's guts), Ranma 1/2 (all OVAs both series), Slayers (Zelgadis is my favorite), &, when I was a bit older, Jubei-chan. (It really deserves its own little shelf, if you ask me.)
I also saw part of 3x3 eyes...and some sort of anime about a dude killing ogres...possibly Ogre Slayer (it was incredibly graphically violent, and oh-so not for kids, that much I remember). Various Gundams, of course, and Dragonball/DBZ were watched. I suppose I'll have to admit to watching Cardcaptor Sakura, but hey, nothing else was on TV.
ninja And, I did watch Samurai Jack with one of my friends. (Want a similar experience? Check out Symbionic Titan.)
Ah nostalgia...so many good memories were had sitting by the TV and popping in a VHS/DVD.
