The Love of Bast
I give to you my daughters and sons
Those of fur and eyes of star,
Those that purr sweet melodies
And love you, whoever you are
I give to you these whiskered folk
That love without question or thought
May they protect against vermin and illness
And question your motives naught
I give to you my beloved creatures
So that you might remember my name
I may be far, seated upon cushions of silk
But I remember each of you just the same
I give to you these beings with fur
Like satin, like wool, and like cotton,
I send them to you when you feel sad or alone
So that my love is never forgotten.
