I generally say something like, "It's a series about an MMORPG called The World," as an opening sentence. Then I start to explain it based on that, saying that an MMORPG is a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game if need be. For IMOQ, I think I'd say something like, "This kid Kite is convinced to play the game by his friend, but then due to a mysterious encounter with a glitch his friend goes comatose, and Kite figures the best way to figure out how to revive him is to investigate within the game. Stuff happens, and yeah." And then I say stuff about whatever character I was referring to that started the explanation. For .hack//G.U., it would be, "This dude Haseo starts playing The World and ends up meeting Shino. Shino ends up getting PKed by this mysterious dude Tri-Edge and falling into a coma. Haseo is all, 'OMG NO WAY SHINO I'LL AVENGE YOUUUUU,' and chases after Tri-Edge. After becoming a legendary PKK he meets Tri-Edge, gets data drained--a funky attack--and ends up at level one again. Then more stuff happens, and yeah. It's a fun game," and then something about how Haseo met character I was referring to, description, etc. That's how I generally would go about it, except less clearly due to being a total fangirl. >>"

I'd be like this:
Okay, Okay. Listen to me! It's basically like a GIANT WOW like thing, with humans, things and other things. No! the things don't matter! Stop swatting my hand away. Okay, okay. So there's these bad things, like Reapers that kill people cause they traveled into their area or looked too long at this girl. She's such a troublemaker. No, no, listen! She's not a babe, she's a b***h. She gets everyone she comes into contact with killed. Okay., shut up. So yeah. ONe dudes friend gets all killed. So he goes on this rampage and gathers some more misfits, like mothers and teenage girls. No, it's not a harem. Shut up. So yeah. They track these dudes, the reapers and like, kill them but manage to f-up the whole interwebs. Shut up, I know what I'm talking about. So yeah, then a sequel comes out and it's the same cept no reapers, just a very big ***** man. Yeah, ***** man with a fetist for High school dudes. So he goes all Sasuke on the world until he get's his a** kicked. Then he meets up with his Misfits and they defeat *****. But then some tenticle monsters come and attack them. No, this isn't some porn, shut up. And the dudes little sister started it all! So, she tries to buddy with the misfits. And then all the coma people are alive! WOW! Yeah, a total let down. They could've left a few of them dead. neutral
Yeah. That's how it'd go down.
