Just thought I would share an ariticle I found on yahoo, it's about green tea and weight loss. I don't really like green tea, but I think I'm just going to start forcing it down my throat if I have to.

The Yahoo article I found: Green Tea

The question was:
Quote:
does green tea really help in weight loss?

The answer:
Quote:
herbal tea - (green tea, white tea, oolong/red tea) all contains polyphenols which have a range of benefits. you can get green tea which has been oxidised, black tea, completely oxidised, oolong/red tea which is semi-oxidised or white tea, unoxidised. the difference is that oxidation causes stronger concentrations of caffiene which stimulate the metabolism and therefore you lose weight.

however, unoxidised or less oxidised tea, if you drink it before you eat, causes your insulin levels to rise which burns fat. also, drinking any sort of chinese/japanese herbal tea 15 minutes before eating increases energy expenditure 10%. if you drink tea immediately after eating, you burn an extra 10% of fats. also, note that green tea has only 4 calories per cup!

Also, it is believed that the polyphenols in tea seem to aid in the digestion of fat.

also, Japanese researchers claim if you drink five cups of green tea a day, you'll burn 70 to 80 extra calories. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an anti-aging specialist, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and told Oprah's viewers they can lose 10 lbs. in 6 weeks drinking green tea instead of coffee

not to mention herbal tea has a wide range of health benefits - i.e women drinking 4-6 cups a day have 46% less chance of getting ovarian cancer, it's an anti-aging substance - notice how women in asia have beautiful skin and look years younger?

green tea burns up calories and stimulates your metabolism, provided of course, you don't add any sugar or milk or whatever. if you want green tea to work, you need to drink 4-6 cups a day and you should see results not only in your weight, but your overall body. green tea is a natural relaxer and it also helps clear your skin! herbal tea is a natural laxative, so it's very good for natural digestion.

personal experience - i was 46 kilos (l'm 5"1) and i know it's not overweight by any means lol, but then i started drinking 5+ cups a day of a variety of oolong, black, green tea etc and after about 4 months, l now only weigh 40 kilos! it's really amazing the effect it has on you, but of course, it is a long term effect and is combined with how it acts as an appetite supressant. i find drinking black tea in the morning is especially good because it increases your metabolic rate which is ideal in the morning times.

good luck, and check out the links below, they are really helpful!

I remember doing some research in the past about green tea, and the active ingredient being really healthy and a great way to lose weight.

Discuss:
-Your experience with different teas.
-Did you lose weight drinking tea?
-If you haven't ever tried tea, would you, if it meant losing weight?
-Share any other info you may know about green/black/herbal tea.

A lot of people say that green tea speeds up the metabolism and I guess I believe it to a point, but I personally don't think that the effect is large enough for all the hype. But I'm not a nutritionist or anything, it's just an opinion.

What if you don't cut out the coffee? wink

About herbal tea -- isn't herbal anything that doesn't include tea leaves? That is, everything besides black, green or white tea. Like chamomile or rose hip. What do you call those?

Ah... anyway. I like green tea better than black, but white pwns all of the above. Herbal can be quite delicious if you find the right fruit blend, but you have to read the ingredients carefully -- a lot of so-called herbal teas are just flavorings. Where I live I have to go to health stores or Asian specialty stores to find proper herbal teas. Chamomile and such can be found in supermarkets, but they don't taste that great. But I live in Perth, Australia, and it's not exactly the center of the world. We're barely out of the dark ages.

Tea technically only comes from the tea leaf. Depending on the refining process and which leaves are picked, you get white tea, green tea, black tea, oolong tea and Pu-er tea. What's left is usually called a 'tisane' by snooby tea snoobs. This encompasses Roiboos, and herbal teas like chamomile, fruit concoctions and ginger etc.

If you pour hot water on it and have yummy beverage come out, I love it. Coffee, tea, 'tisanes' (I just call them tea usually) and anything else. I'm a tea-freak and my cupboard is very full of teas that I love and adore.

Tea has never helped me lose weight but I do think it makes me much healthier. I drink tea at work to avoid eating the fries so I'm sure it helps that way.

I've been doing a lot of research lately. It seems really helpful in preventing many kinds of cancer. I also keep reading that it increases metabolism and attacks belly fat. Also, do not trust weight loss scammers who use green tea. I read that you will NOT lose 20 lbs in 30 days or 7 inches every week. That's all false. However, green tea seems very healthy in many ways.

I don't really like the taste, but I think I'm going to start drinking it (forcing myself) minimally 2-3 times a day.

If all you're doing is drinking tea, it's not going to do a darn thing. However, as another facet of a healthy lifestyle, I think tea is complementary to weight loss efforts. For awhile I was drinking about three cups of tea a day and it seemed like it was easier for my body to get rid of all the byproducts of weight loss. But three cups of tea is little hard for me, personally, to maintain since I just don't drink hot beverages on a regular basis.

I once read somewhere that drinking 6-7 cups a day only burns about 70 extra calories. I think this here is just another example of something that will assist you in your efforts but won't make you lose weight if it's the only thing you're using.

As far as personal experience goes, I like to brew tea and drink it whenever I'm having an unwarranted craving for noms. Half the fun of drinking tea is in the making of it. >D There are few people out there who can make a perfect pot smile . I've so far lost about 8 pounds . I don't think it was because of the tea since I've been drinking all kinds of tea (including green) for most of my life.

I lloovvveeee tea, especially green and I drink white too. (I'll drink red, but not black or grey and I really only drink red when it's the only tea offered.)

My tea addiction started around the time I graduated high school, which is when I started being more active, so I can't say weather it had a significant impact on my weight loss. But I drink 1-2 cups a day and I have a pretty good metabolism.

One issue I have with that article is that "herbal" tea is usually the term used to describe everything that's NOT from the actual tea leaf. So, Black, Green, Red, White and Grey are true tea. And everything else like chamomille, fruity teas etc are deemed "herbal"

I do like to drink tea after a meal, I find it does aid in digestion. I don't like it with milk or sugar, so that's good for me lol. I find green tea keeps me awake and gives me a bit of energy. Caffein is a hunger supressant for me. I just love love love it.

You can get green tea with lemon (lemon helps kill germs so it's great in fending off colds) or jazmine which is really yummy and relaxing. The list goes on. If you have a David's Tea in your area check them out! They have some of the best varieties of loose leaf tea I've ever tasted! And Starbucks/Tazo has pretty good combos too.

I knew that green tea helped out with weight loss, but as much as I drink daily, monthly, and yearly - for the past 10 years, I've never noticed a difference it had on me.

Especially in my more active years, between ages 14-18.

I guess it's something I've never noticed?

I drink it decaffeinated,
same pros, no caffeine cons.
I've recently cut caffeine out of my diet,
as I read a study that says it makes your body more acidic, which can lead to your organs producing fat to protect themselves.

Gosh, I wish I liked tea. I never have, ever since I was a kid. I recently even bought two flavors to see if my tastes have changed at all (chamomile and vanilla chai) and I don't really like either of them.

But tea is so neat. gonk

I have recently discovered David's Tea and my absolute favorite is "the skinny" it's an oolong tea and pu'erh tea with ginger, ginsing and orange peel. It's great for helping digestion. So much so that after every meal I feel like I need a cup. And it's said to be a metabolism booster.
