The second one is clearer especially if it is a small tattoo

Not trying to be a d**k or anything, but having a Chinese character (doesn't matter if you're Asian) has become one of those passing fad things no? Like outdated band logos or barbed wire around your bicep.

Anyways, disregard that if you want;
The first picture is cool because it's calligraphic writing rather then the traditional style you see, but it might look like a smudge to most people. (most people also tend to be idiots)

Second one has good clarity and form, so it's easily legible as Chinese but lacks originality and is almost typical of all Chinese tattoos.

My opinion would be to go with the second one, since you can easily mod it if you liked, add surrounding graphics, etc.. whereas the calligraphic style is harder to incorporate with other styles.

I guess that I agree with Azn Fcuk on one level that the calligraphy is becoming a white fad (aka uncool) but if you are asian and getting your own name it is ok.

Personally I wouldn't but if it has meaning to you then go for it

Are you going to get your face tattooed along with your name too?
