Barimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. It's really good. Other good authors: Caroline Cooney, Edward Bloor.

Recently, I finally read the classic "Lord of the Flies" by Willam Golding (I think) and I thought it was very good.

The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseni are both beautiful books, but don't read them if you're looking for a happy ending. Both books end on a very final note and have extremely natural, heartbreaking conclusions.

Hands down the best book I have read in years is The Elegance of The Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbary. That book is a work of art, complex and gorgeous. She tells and outwards story through two characters looking inward. This book is inteneded for mature, intelligent audiences and the vocabulary is incredibly advanced. Once again, no happy ending, but a fitting one. Well worth your time if you're looking for a book that make syou feel like you have done something with you life.

My favorite is The Sight by David Clement-Davies and it's sequel, Fell. Those 2 books were true works of art that really deserve so much more credit. If you touch my copies of them without my permission, I will sever your arm. XD

I don't know what kind of books you read, but I always feel that this time of year, around May 25, calls for "Night Watch" by Terry Pratchett.
