No, I'm sure, the man is pure Evil.

I haven't experienced much of the guy or his show -- I'm a Brit currently living in the UK, after all -- but from what I have experienced (mostly satire contained in the worldwide version of 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'), he is nationalistic and conservative, which lends itself to anti-communist and related views.

Now, the question remains as to what he is referring when he speaks of social and economic justice. The Church would have it that social and economic justice is about freeing people from poverty because poverty brings about desperation; through desperation, temptation of quick profits; and, through temptation of quick profits, sinful acts.

However, depending what one's idea of 'justice' is, there are somewhat sinister views that hide under the umbrellas of social and economic 'justice', such as those found in the growing debate about the burden of healthcare for the elderly and terminally ill. I have heard of people encouraging those who don't or can't contribute to a nation's prosperity that their lives are not worth living and, in such case, that they are better off dead. Euthanasia and assisted suicide are hot issues on the lips of Europeans (the UK included, as many who want to commit suicide go to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland). Other strategies include encouraging homosexual people to be so ashamed of themselves that they commit suicide. It is one step removed from and comparable to the Nazi's final solution for undesirables and other utilitarian/totalitarian ideologies. Now, I'm not saying this is apparent, because it isn't. It would be difficult to fool the world today about concentration camps if the tactic were tried again, so it is "neater" to have people do it to themselves in decentralized locations.

Anyway, Matt, you should know better about the media and the methods that they use to sensationalize. Rather than have a dramatic reaction to what he said, I speculate as to whether this is what he was bringing to light.

I guess since the concept of social justice is fundamentaly christian. (help the poor, feed the hungry, heal the sick etc.) then yes, from a christian standpoint Beck is infact preaching evil. Seriously, most of the crap that comes out of the republican camp sound borderline Satanic.

I dislike him and I dislike conservative Republicans because they all share this view.

I am so glad that these Christians are boycotting him. He and the rest of that party dont want to give tax money to help those who cant afford the private healthcare, hell, who can? For just me and my husband, we checked prices. Most quotes were at $500! As much as rent.

As far as Glenn Beck goes, if you are poor - you're a lazy worm and expendable to society.

He makes me sick.
And his cult-like followers make me sick.

Thing is, I know what you are trying to say.... I generally ignore these people. I let them blow off steam. It was actually a Michael Moore fan who made me realize that people actually LISTEN to these idiots. Still, I like to let idiots like that self destruct.

Right now, he is not bringing this issue to light. He's making an all out assault on charity. He believes that any form of helping others is in turn communism. Something that, as a communist, I really wish I could take credit for.

Social Justice is a key concept in Christianity. It doesn't mean raising the Red Flag like I do. It means helping others to survive, it means breaking down class barriers. No, it doesn't mean duping people into forced Euthanasia. That's a different republican ploy to confuse the Healthcare issue (Don't know why, the issue itself is debatable on it's own terms.... Why the sensationalized like this is anyone's guess).

This is a horrible thing to say. Plenty of conservatives - I'd wager the majority - do not agree with people like Glenn Beck. The problem is we only see the nutjobs.

Ironically, the "conservative" we have nowadays is nothing like the real conservative. Just look at Barry Goldwater. He was a Republican, arguably the father of conservatism, and he was a major supporter of homosexual rights. Think about that. The conservative who ran for president fifty years ago was a bigger supporter of homosexual rights than the liberals.

P.S. To be fair, Beck has said he doesn't oppose church's performing charity work. He said it is only bad if they support government charity. That is somewhat reasonable.

Exactly. Do you think the Christian groups protesting are left wing, registered democrats?

Except he's brought it down to an issue of Language. Social Justice and Equality are being called key words for Communism and Nazism.

His Argument was geared to make people fearful of any church that spends it's time promoting these ideals. He didn't say "Avoid any church that would say to Support Healthcare".

As it is, this is what I get from my church, all the time. Help the poor. Help those who are less fortunate. Fight for the equal rights of all. Most importantly, do it in the name of Christ.

I don't get what you said here. Call Me Apple said all conservatives share Beck's view, which is obviously untrue.

I've been to dozens of churches which preached the wonders of charity. I have never seen the phrase "social justice" used in any of them. For all I know, perhaps it is a catch phrase for socialistic movements.

Perhaps Beck is wrong in condemning that terminology, but he certainly did not say anything "evil."

I stand by my statement.
But let me clarify, I dont mean the church statement. I mean the matter of politics, against healthcare, pro-guns, anti-choice, etc. Thats just what makes up a Conservative republican.

On hte lines of "leave your churches" I think Beck has kinda gone...rogue or something. rofl

The majority do agree with Beck and O'Reilly, all the ones I know love Faux news. And agree with the propaganda and lies they sell.

Admittedly, I don't like Mr. Beck. Not in the least. And I'm honestly saddened that he and so many who share his views actually think that anyone who wasn't born into the same class is scum. However, that's why I, and all the other poorer, raging liberals in the world have Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, while the conservatives have Glenn Beck. I'm sure that there are groups out there waiting for my favorite two gentlemen to hit the grave, and in fact cheering them toward it.

I am sorry that the only thing i can point out is the correct pronunciation of "faux". It's french and is pronounced "Fo." (at least inb Canada) however i do appreciate the pun. also I agree.

Glenn Beck is awesome! I'm going to have to read through this and get back to you all later, see what the fuss is about but he's always seemed like a smart, compassionate, and thoughtful man. I watch his show once in a while and I've never seen anything that would illicit such a harsh response.

The man took one of the most important tenants of my faith and claimed it was a key world for communism. Being a communist, i would LOVE to take credit for it. But more importantly, Christ faught for the poor, the unfortunate, the down trodden. And now Glen Beck is telling you that if your church wishes to do the same, they are leading you down a path that'll destroy the country.

Glen Beck is, whether he realizes it or not, trying to lead people away from Christ. Isn't that enough to call him evil?

I'm back. I know that was quick right? I'm very against the far-left liberal leaning media and their gross misrepresentation of the truth so I had to go out and find what Glenn Beck REALLY meant. It gets interesting, I love the way he mocks those who distort the truth, and completely take out of context what he is saying in order to label him as a monster.

Quote:
I'm just full of hate and I want to stop justice!

I'm glad to see Time suddenly cares about God... or am I? The other "news" from The New York Times was that I recommended leaving church if those churches help the poor. And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those pesky, meddling "journalists"!

I'm not sure why I would expect the media to start searching for the truth now, when they've never let it get in the way before. The truth is this: The term "social justice" has been completely perverted and hijacked by progressives. It doesn't mean simply "help the poor" to them. It does to some people, but not to radical progressives.

And now, just for The New York Times and everyone else who thinks I hate poor people — I know your attention span is about 20 or 30 seconds, but try and pay attention — we'll set the record straight for you here on social justice. The kind I am talking about vs. the kind that they are talking about.

Ready?

Here's my definition of social justice: Forced redistribution of wealth with a hostility toward individual property rights, under the guise of charity and/or justice.

Source: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,589832,00.html

That article was written by Beck and in it you can clearly see that he is not against helping the poor, he's against: "Forced redistribution of wealth with a hostility toward individual property rights, under the guise of charity and/or justice."

There's always more to the story...

Anyway, I encourage you all to read the entire article.

He's in favor of helping the poor and what he meant by social justice isn't the same as what many of you mean by it. Glenn Beck is not telling you that if your church wishes to do the same, that you are being led down a path that'll destroy the country. He's speaking against ones like the one our president distanced himself from...
