Let's say that you are a memember of StarFleet, and you are trying out the holodeck/novel for the first time. What fictional series would you choose to play and why?

I believe one of the Dungeons and Dragons books, because I love epic fantasy. Perhaps something from the Dark Warrior series?

Oh, that's cool. razz

I would choose LOTR, since it was one of my favorite books growing up.
I would also choose Star Wars just as jokes. XD
Maybe I'd pick Star Trek to make the computer say "WTF?!"

I'd do one based off Almost Famous.

Or a Tron type thing.

Perfect Recreation. Pretending you are a God amongst Computer men in a Holdeck, or just touring with hit seventies bands. Just seems like a blast, the good and the bad.

Oh yeah,
speaking of hit seventies bands, I'd love to visit sometime between 1950's and 1999. I just want to see what it was like when my folks grew up, and to see myself as a kid.

There are a lot of computer games around that would lend themselves very well to holo-novels. I've always thought Oblivion would be amazing in the holodeck! mrgreen

Yeah, when discussing video/computer games.
I'd like one of the following:

1. Final Fantasy X
2. Kingdom Hearts 1-2
3. Pokemon
4. Sly 1-3
5. Jak 1-3

Something I've always wondered about holodecks...

Can they make you look different? For instance, if I wanted to play a kajit (cat person) in Oblivion, but walked into the holodeck as my normal human self, would the holo-projectors be able to make me look like a kajit?

And if they could do that then would you also be able to run anime holo-novels in the anime style?

Am I making much sense here? confused

Yeah, I guess they could do that with the projectors.
I don't really see enough evidence because, they've only shown those with real people.

Okay...I'm so geeky 'cause I use to day dream about the holodeck and what I would choose.

Books ... All the books by Jane Austen, I love the romance and the costumes.

ST Timeline ... 2155, so I can meet Jonathan Archer (he is so hot!)

Earth Timeline ... 1930's, historically interesting and I love the hats! (Oh, and I can wear my 1930s black velvet dress I bought recently...)

I'm such a costume geek too. XD

Nice. razz

The ST timeline thing reminds me of the TNG episode Relics.
Scotty looked pretty happy there. smile

I've often wondered why nobody bothered, but the holodeck could easily overlay
a holographic image over a person and keep updating it.
ST tech for a moving holographic disguise or outfit was possible,
and in a holodeck or holosuite was well within the design.

Basically, if you looked down at yourself, you'd see the hologram.

It's easy to program the figures in a holo-program to react AS IF
you were dressed any way you want or appear any way you want.
It's just funnier to forget to do that and have the characters say you're
in "pajamas".
It's also possible to program them to not care how you're dressed.
When Tasha Yar called up an Aikido program, the opponent had
combat programming,
but didn't care what she wore.
It didn't respond to HER outfit or the Ligonian's outfit.

===========
Actually, now that I think of it,
I'd need to watch "Star Trek:First Contact" again to tell if Picard's
Dixon Hill white/black tuxedo was holographic or if he actually
stopped with Borg loose to put on a tie. (Then there's Alfre
Woodard's dress also...)
I THINK the outfits were holographic.

It would. Oblivion rocks. I'd join the Imperial Guard so I could be all like "STOP! YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW!".

I'd also love to have a Family Guy or The Simpsons Holonovel.
Just because. razz
