ravens and crows

when i first saw the ravens for Jonathan Strange, i thought they were much too large, ridiculously exaggerated.

now all the crows around here, where i live, are huge like that! the local ranger tells me it is because the state no longer pays people to remove roadkill, so the scavengers are getting fat and sassy.

do you have giant crows where you are too?

do they make you feel uneasy?

do they make you thunk of Poe, or Susanna Clarke?

I must say that there are no giant crows or ravens where I live. In fact, I cannot remember seeing one for the past year...

I admit that looking up the difference between all those basically black birds has been on my list of things to do ever since I first read JSAMN, but I still haven't done it: they are all still just black birds. (Another in the same category is working out Snape's potion puzzle from The Sorcerer's Stone)

I have seen many large black birds around here, actually. I think they are crows, since ravens are bigger, but I haven't seen them up close.

i have been reading Dante's Il Paradisio

and he compares the souls in heaven to grackles!@#@;;

most of the time he seems like a genius to me, but grackles are soooooo ugly- like a black puddle with an oil spill in it

and they are mean

and dirty!

There is a nest that is built by a pair of ravens on the water tower in my town. It's been there every spring. But the thing that really struck me was how huge these ravens were. HUGE! And I mean huge! Their wings are long and look very powerful. I've read that they sometimes attack people but I hope that's only when they are threatened.

They're pretty though. : )

I mostly see magpies. They're way smarter than the crows, so the crows really can't compete all that well.

I saw a giant stuffed crow in the anatomy museum. Yes, it was very creepy.

Actually, there are tons of enormous black birds cawing at me on my campus. i think, however, they are crows, not ravens. They're awesome and beautiful smile Strangely enough, they remind me of the Navajo though, not Poe.

ravens are the size or large chickens i saw them when i went to london though it could be that the tower of london ravens are espicaly well fed

There are big black birds around where I live, but I don't see them at school, but school is a long drive away.

I think of The Birds. -shutter- I had an English class with a textbook full of pieces of books and stories. rolleyes They had us read some morbid stuff, like Lord of the Flies, and I don't see how they would be allowed to do that in a public high school without parental consent. So, basically I'm afraid of large clusters of avian creatures.
