Howdy. So, I'm attempting to become a vegan. Does anyone know any companies that make good soy cheese? I bought some the other day and it just tastes like salty tofu...

Don't try to replace it until you forget what it tastes like, anything else will just upset you. That's my experience, Follow your heart Vegan Gourmet if you must.

I don't trust soy and I TRY not to have it, course thats rather hard :/

soy is over processed. grow some soy yourself and make your own cheese.

There has only been one time when I've actually enjoyed soy cheese, and that was at some pizza place in Atlanta.

and besides, most soy cheeses have casein in them, which comes from milk so it's not really vegan. Seems kinda pointless to me.

"the Farm" has a great cookbook with an awesome "cheese" sauce made from nutritional yeast. i had some at a potluck with mushrooms and broccoli, and it was super fantastical. XP I'm sure it would be tasty with some macaroni.

for parmesan cheese take 1 ounce of yeast flakes. half an ounce of blached almonds and a teaspoon of salt and mix it in a food processor or coffee grinder.
it tastes pretty good on food

I am also wondering about what kinds taste good... I wanted to try some to see what it was like, but I didn't want to buy some and then have it be gross... I saw some rice and almond cheese as well at the store, not sure what that's like either.

Not a soy cheese, but Dr.Cow's aged cashew cheese is AMAZING, in my opinion (If you miss stinky cheese).

Personally I prefer to make my own! Buying substitutes can get expensive. I use this recipe when I make pizza and I like VeganYumYum's recipes for macaroni & "cheese".

I've also heard Daiya is good, though & I agree with Seraphsody about not looking for something to fill a cheese void until you let it get out of your system.
