The story of the beginning of the warrior Clans has been passed down by cats of all Clans, from elder to warrior, from warrior to apprentice, from queen to kit. The story is never the same twice, and parts grow uncertain, or they become suddenly clear in the telling. There are some cats who walk dimly, their names and deeds lost in the sweet fog of the elders’ den, for the warrior Clans have roamed the forest for moons beyond counting…

Intro


Many moons ago, the forest was a wilderness, untamed by territories. Cats came into the forest, drawn in by the soft rustlings of small creatures, shadows under the water, and the sudden commotion of birds' wings. The cats lived in small groups, not yet Clans and there was no borders set down. The cats fought constantly, fearful that prey might run out and that their overlapping territories were being threatened. It was a lawless, bloody time for the forest, and many cats died.

One night, when the moon was full, the cats agreed to meet at a clearing in the forest surrounded by four great oak trees. A terrible battle followed, and soon the ground was wet with spilled blood.

Many cats had died, when the survivors awoke, all around them they saw the spirits of their slain kin, no longer torn or bloodied but shining like fallen stars. The survivors huddled on the ground, and, as the spirits spoke, they saw terrible visions of the future. They knew that the fighting had to end.

"Unite or die," said the spirits. Four cats -- Shadow, River, Wind, and Thunder -- came forward claiming that they could individually unite the forests with their strengths. The spirits of the slain kin spoke again, "The forest is very big enough to feed all your families and many more. You must each find any other cats like you, choose a home in the forest, and set down borders." At the moment, the moon broke free from the clouds, revealing a circle of starlit spirit - cats around the edge of the clearing -- StarClan. A white tom spirit-cat stepped forward. "If you do this," he meowed, "we will reward yu with eight more lives, so that you may lead your Clans for many moons to come." The StarClan promised to watch over the Clans from Silverpelt, a crowded path of stars that swept across the night sky, and visit the Clan leaders in their dreams and to guide them on their journeys. The spirit-cats proclaimed that all four Clans would meet at the full moon once a month at the four great oak trees for a night of truce.

Thunder, River, Wind, and Shadow were pronounced warriors by the spirit - cats. "From now on, you will live by a warrior code. Your hearts will be filled with courage and nobility, and if you must fight, it will not be for greed, but for honor and justice." And so the age of the warrior Clans began -- ShadowClan, RiverClan, WindClan, and ThunderClan.

There was not always peace between the Clans, but that was to be expecting -- cats are born with claws and teeth for a reason. Still, as long as they lived by the warrior code, their fallen ancestors would watch over them and guide them through their lives.

The Warrior Code

This is the Warrior Code, the Code that all, noble cats of the forest follow. You must follow this code.

1. Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet them in battle.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another Clan’s territory.

3. Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten. Thank StarClan for its life.

5. A kit must be at least 6 moons before it can start training to be a apprentice.

6. Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent night vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.

7. A cat must not be named Deputy until they have mentored at least one apprentice.

8. The Deputy will become Clan Leader when their leader either dies or retires.

9. After the death of retirement of the Deputy, the new Deputy must be chosen before moon high.

10. A Gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for a night. There shall be no fighting of the Clans at this time.

11. Boundaries must be checked daily and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.

12. No warrior may neglect a kit in pain, or in danger. Even if that kit is from another Clan.

13. The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kitty pet.

Clans


~MoonClan~
Loyal and Brave



Clan Character: MoonClan cats are proud, loyal, and brave cats. Their superior sense of sight in the dark and stealth are one of the characteristics. At camp these warriors are playful and relaxed, but in battle they are fierce and deady. Known for their nightvision and dark coats, most MoonClan cats are the type to lay back on a warm day and work hard other times.
Prey: MoonClan cats hunt creatures such as mice, voles, and some birds.
Hunting Skills: MoonClan is known for their stealth. They have perfected their stalking technique and their tracking sense.
Clan Camp: MoonClan camp lays in an area of fewer trees. Light shines there more often than the rest of their territory. They are surrounded by thick bushes and tall trees that makes their camp harder to break into.
Clan Hunting Grounds: The clan hunting grounds lie outstretched throughout the territory. Hard to see in the dense woodland, other clans may find it hard to find prey in this area.
Clan Training Area: The training area is between the river and the Moon Tree. There is an area with moss, rocks, trees and water which makes it easy to train in any terrain.



~SnowClan~
Adaptable and Proud


Clan Character: SnowClan cats boast of their long beautiful fur that keeps them warm and dry. These cats are the most adaptable; they can live in any type of terrain or weather. SnowClan cats usually come in lighter colors and are usually, calm, quiet, and strong.
Prey: These wintery cats hunt rabbits and hares, mice, voles, and some birds.
Hunting Skills: These cats use camoflauge to their advantage. They have developed the art of sneaking in without making themselves noticable, which is really hard to do in the snow. Other clans find it hard to be quiet while treading through the snowy fields.
Clan Camp: SnowClan's camp is usually filled with playful kits and busy apprentices. These cats enjoy sunbathing and sleeping. SnowClan's camp is under a hill filled with snow and icicles. Their dens are made from pacted snow and blends in with the surrounding environment...if you didnt know where to look you would not see it.
Clan Hunting Grounds: The hunting grounds depend on wherever the rabbits seem to nest. They can hunt anywhere in their territory and sometimes tread onward to the SnowCap hills if needed.
Clan Training Area: The training area is near the big tree known as the Dead Oak. Here SnowClan apprentices learn to fight in different situations; mostly with WoodClan cats or MoonClan.



~WoodClan~
Playful and Devoted



Clan Character: WoodClan cats are the least serious of all the clans. These easy-going warriors enjoy basking in the sunshine and climbing trees. Prey comes easily to them so they dont need to worry much about starvation. These more peaceful clanmembers are the least likely to launch an attack unless provoked. WoodClan cats come in a variety of colors, but tabbies seem to appear most.
Prey: WoodClan eats birds such as sparrows, larks, pidgeons, finches, magpies and thrushes. Mice, voles and shrews are also plenty, as is the occasional rabbits. Their specialty is squirrels.
Hunting Skills: WoodClan cats climb up trees where birds think they are safe. They can pounce out of these trees as well. WoodClan isnt much for stealth as they are for speed, but these cats dont chase after prey as much as FireClan cats do.
Clan Camp: The camp is full of playing apprentices, Elders telling stories, and contests between warriors who have no more chores to do. It seems much less like the other clans who are hard at work building defenses. These cats live in an area surrounded by trees in which they make their dens in. This makes it easy to pounce on invaders.
Clan Hunting Grounds: WoodClan hunts anywhere on their territory.
Clan Training Area: WoodClan's training area is filled with trees, rocks, and springy moss. It's easy to train the eager apprentices.



~FireClan~
Swift and Wily



Clan Character: FireClan cats are more hostile, wily and proud cats. They are quick to accuse and even quicker to leap into battle. FireClan cats usually come in orange or brown colors, and have paws and muscles built for speed and cooling off. Not always uptight, FireClan cats have playful sides that, when at ease, make them very friendly and trusting allies.
Prey: FireClan cats eat rabbits, lizards, mice, and some other desert creatures. They enjoy chasing down their prey.
Hunting Skills: These cats pounce out of no where and prepare for a long run. These fast felines chase after their prey with power and speed.
Clan Camp: The camp is next to some shady trees--rare in FireClan territory. It's not too far away from their source of water, the Fire Pond, and is covered with cooling moss on top of scorching desert-like sand.
Clan Hunting Grounds: After losing the Tall Rocks to PebbleClan's territory, FireClan found that near the MoonClan border is a place they call Hare Hollow, where rabbits enjoy the rare clovers growing there.
Clan Training Area: The training area is next to the Fire Pond and Hare Hollow. This area has trees and rocks much like PebbleClan's territory--a wonderful place to train future warriors against PebbleClan's unruly attacks.



~PebbleClan~
Ambitious and Strong



Clan Character: PebbleClan cats have it in their heads that they are going to take over the forest. These more bulky warriors are ambitious and playful--they are great allies and terrible enemies.
Prey: PebbleClan are actually great Fishers. They fish out of the river that runs straight through their camp, so they dont need to go out much. When they do they can take down bigger animals like rabbits and even hawks.
Hunting Skills: Like SnowClan cats, these gray-and-brown typical warriors use Camoflauge. They have learned to stay absolutely still until prey is near enough, when they unleash their powerful energy and long claws on them to bring them down.
Clan Camp: A river runs right through PebbleClan's camp, so they are agile swimmers. They play in the water and drink out of it, so they are often seen in camp rather than out of it. The rocks around them make excellent basking rocks.
Clan Hunting Grounds: PebbleClan fishes out of the river or they go out to the Tall Rocks--which they got from FireClan--to hunt.
Clan Training Area: PebbleClan's training area is close to camp. It's full of rocks and grass and a big fallen tree.


~StarClan~
Wise Ancestors



StarClan is the home of the spirits of all cats' warrior ancestors. As each cat dies, they are visited by a member of StarClan, usually a cat they have known before, and taken to join the star bound warriors. StarClan is represented by Silverpelt, the sparkling swath of stars that stretches across the sky. StarClan is made up of cats from all Clans; however, individual cat-spirits retain their old loyalties and watch over cats from the Clans they used to belong to. StarClan warriors communicate with cats in the earthly Clans in their dreams, or when they visit the Moonstone deep underground at Highstones. Clan cats look to StarClan for help and guidance, but ultimately StarClan does not control what happens to the Clans.


~Rogues~
Aggressive and Cold



Clan Character: Aggressive, ambitious, and bloodthirsty. They travel alone not belonging to any Clan and are usually forced out of Clan territories. They don’t live with twolegs either.
Prey: Anything they can get their paws on.
Hunting Skills: They hunt like they did when they were in a Clan. They tend to care less about others and more about themselves and surviving.


~Kittypets~
Spoiled and Pampered



Clan Character: Used to the soft life of being a twolegs pet, they have no pride. They often have seen the cutter so many of them are docile and keep near the twoleg nests.
Prey: Cat food.
Hunting Skills: They have no hunting skills what so ever. Few have some minor skill or fighting skill.

Occupations


Leader: This is the cat responsible for leading the Clan. Leaders are charged with organizing the cats, the protection of the territory, and the keeping or order and punishment within that Clan. A leader's name always ends in 'star', a word that is never used outside of a leader's name. Clan leaders are responsible for organizing the day-to-day operations of a Clan. This includes the protection of the territory, organizing the cats and maintaining discipline within the Clan. To assist them they have selected a Deputy to assist them. Leaders make announcements before the Clan and preform the ceremonies that promote cats through the ranks. Each leader is granted nine lives by StarClan. As soon as possible following the death and burial of the previous leader they travel to a place of religious significance (such as the Moonstone) and commune with StarClan. While sharing tongues with StarClan the new leader is given their new name and the nine lives. In cases in which the Clan's previous leader is still living the new leader will not be granted nine lives as long as StarClan still recognizes the previous leader.
Due to these extra lives every time a leader is slain StarClan heals the wound and returns them to life. In some cases StarClan is unable to heal a particularly grievous wound and will collect more than one life to restore a leader to life. Leaders are almost always former deputies, though there are exception cases in which a non-deputy inherits the position from a fallen leader. Responsibilities include promoting kits to apprentices, apprentices to warriors, warriors to senior warriors or deputy, senior warriors to elders, selecting a new deputy if needed, patrol organization, attack organization, and defense organization. The name contains “Star” in it.

Deputy: A deputy is the Clan cat who is second in command to the leader. In the event that the leader should retire, die, or for other reasons not be able to do his or her job, the deputy takes his or her place. A cat may not become deputy unless he or she has mentored at least one apprentice. In the event that a deputy dies or retires, the leader of his or her Clan must decide on a new deputy before moon high.
Elder: An elder is a Clan cat that has served his or her Clan faithfully, but now has retired. An elder is usually an elderly cat, but sometimes a cat must retire early due to reasons beyond their control. Elders do not have to catch their own food, nor do hunting patrols or fight. Apprentices must catch and take food to the elders, and may not eat before they are fed. Elders share a den all to themselves, and have no chores that they must do. Apprentices also must bring them fresh bedding, and if they are stiff or sick, or is not able to get water for other reasons, then an apprentice must bring them moss soaked in water.

Warrior: Warriors are cats who have been trained in the arts of fighting and hunting in addition to the ways of the warrior’s code. They make up the bulk of the Clan and are charged with the responsibility to feed and protect those cats who are elderly or otherwise unable to spend the required time out of camp. Warriors are generally over 12 moons of age, and most have served 6 moons of Apprenticeship to an older, experienced warrior. They have many responsibilities. Such as border patrols (making borders and evicting trespassers), camp security (stand guard, protect from attacks, and raise an alarm if needed), hunting patrols (bring prey back to the Clan), fight in battles to prevent entry by enemy Clans, and perform preemptive attacks against other Clans, either to eliminate a specific threat or to carry out another objective defined by the Clan leader.

Medicine Cat: The Medicine Cat serves the Clan as both their spiritual leader as as the healer, making them akin to the idea of a 'Medicine Doctor' in a tribal society. In addition to their responsibilities to their Clan, they have responsibility to one another and StarClan. They carry out their responsibilities to StarClan once every quarter moon, meeting together to discuss matters privately and share dreams with StarClan. As a Healer, they gather herbs and dispense them as an apothecary would. They handle diagnosis and treatment of both illness and injury for all the cats in the Clan. In their role as spiritual leader, they teach the code, interpret omen and prophecy, and generally serve the Clan as a conduit between the earthly cats and their ghostly counterparts. A Medicine Cat is a specially chosen Clan cat that uses herbs to heal fellow cats. A cat chosen as a medicine cat must meet with the medicine cats of other Clans at the Moonstone every half-moon. Once a Clan cat goes from a medicine cat apprentice to a medicine cat, they go to the Moonstone and communicate with their medicine cat ancestors. They then tell the new medicine cat everything they need to know. A medicine cat isn't only the healer of the Clan, they also interpret the signs StarClan sends them. Medicine cats also can order their Leader to rest if they need to. A medicine cat cannot fall in love, and as a result, cannot have kits. Medicine cats have a deep knowledge of StarClan, knowing more about their secrets than any other cat. Medicine cats also have a great knowledge of herbs and berries.

Apprentice: An apprentice is a Clan cat that is at least six moons old, but has not yet had their Warrior Ceremony. In the old forest, apprentices would make a trip to the Moonstone with their mentor, but that tradition was ended in the new territories by the lake. An apprentice goes to train with their mentor whenever the mentor tells them to. Apprentices also can go on hunting and border patrols with other cats of their Clan. Apprentices cannot eat unless they have special permission, or the elders have already eaten. Apprentices do chores for the Clan, too, such as changing the elders bedding when need be. Apprentices cannot leave the camp without their mentor's permission. If an apprentice breaks a rule, they usually have to go through the elders pelts for ticks, and if the find any, they then rub foul smelling mouse bile on the ticks, making them drop off. After the apprentice has completed his or her training, they go through their Warrior Ceremony, and become a full-fledged warrior. The name contains “Paw” in it.

Queen: A queen is a warrior she-cat that is expecting or has recently given birth to a litter. Queens reside in the nursery one to two moons before giving birth and begin to have their food delivered to them by their Clanmates as they become less mobile. This continues for a few moons while they are nursing their kits to ensure proper care and education. The queens remain in the nursery until their kit(s) are named apprentices, typically around six moons (It is possible, but unknown, whether a queen may leave the nursery before her kit(s) become apprentices). A queen may request to stay in the nursery after their kit(s) are apprenticed. When a queen is unable to produce enough milk to feed her kits, another queen who has plenty of milk to spare will help her nurse until the kits are ready for fresh kill.

Kit: A kit is the term for a cat before it turns six moons old. A kit is not allowed out of the nursery for a while, until it's mother (queen) feels the time is right. After it leaves the nursery, it can go around the camp, though it is never far from its mother. A kit cannot leave the Clan camp, and it does not have to catch its own food. Kits are usually playful, trying to get the Clan warriors to play with it. Most of them are too young to fully understand the Clan laws, or The Warrior Code, but if they break a rule, they are usually forgiven. The name contains “Kit” in it.

Rogue: They travel alone not belonging to any Clan and are usually forced out of Clan territories. They don’t live with twolegs either.

Kittypet: Kittypets are cats that are pets to the two legs. They are used to the soft life of being a twolegs pet, they have no pride. They often have seen the cutter so many of them are docile and keep near the twoleg nests.

Herbs


Borage Leaves: To be chewed and eaten. The plant can be distinguished by its small blue or pink star-shaped flowers and hairy leaves. Great for nursing queens as it helps increase their supply of milk. Also brings down fever.

Burdock Root: A tall stemmed, sharp-smelling thistle with dark leaves. A medicine cat must dig up the roots, wash off the dirt, and chew them into a pulp, which can be applied to rat bites. Cures infection.

Catmint (Catnip): A delicious-smelling, leafy plant that’s hard to find in the wild; often found growing in twoleg gardens. The best remedy for green cough.

Chervil: A sweet-smelling plant with large, spreading fernlike leaves and small white flowers. The juice of the leaves can be used for infected wounds, and chewing the roots helps with bellyache.

Cobweb: Spider webs can be found all over the forest; be careful not to bring along a spider when you take the web! Medicine cats wrap it around an injury to soak up the blood and keep the wound clean. Stops bleeding.

Coltsfoot: A flowering plant, a bit like a dandelion, with yellow or white flowers. The leaves can be chewed into a pulp, which is eaten to help shortness of breath.

Comfrey: Identifiable by its large leaves and small bell-shaped flowers, which can be pink, white, or purple. The fat black roots of this plant can be chewed into a poultice to mend broken bones or soothe wounds.

Death Berries: Red berries that can be fatally poisonous to kits and elders. They are NOT medicine. Known to Twolegs as yew berries. BEWARE!

Dock: A plant similar to sorrel. The leaf can be chewed up and applied to soothe scratches.

Dried Oak Leaf: Collected in the autumn and stored in a dry place. Stops infections.

Feverfew: A small bush with flowers like daisies. The leaves can be eaten to cool down body temperature, particularly for cats with fever or chills.

Goldenrod: A tall plant with bright yellow flowers. A poultice of this is terrific for healing wounds.

Honey: A sweet, golden liquid created by bees. Difficult to collect without getting stung, but great for soothing infections or the throats of cats who have breathed smoke.

Horsetail: A tall plant with bristly stems that grows in marshy areas. The leaves can be used to treat infected wounds. Usually chewed up and applied as a poultice.

Juniper Berries: A bush with spiky dark green leaves and purple berries. The berries soothe bellyaches and help cats who are having trouble breathing.

Lavender: A small purple flowering plant. Cures fever.

Marigold: A bright orange or yellow flower that grows low to the ground. The petals or leaves can be chewed Into a pulp and applied as a poultice to wounds. Stops infections.

Mouse Bile: A bad-smelling liquid that is the only remedy for ticks. Dab a little moss soaked in bile on a tick and it’ll fall right off. Wash paws thoroughly in running water afterward.

Poppy Seed: Small black seeds shaken from a dried poppy flower, these are fed to cats to help them sleep. Soothes cats suffering from shock and distress. Not recommended for nursing queens.

Stinging Nettle: The spiny green seeds can be administered to a cat who’s swallowed poison, while its leaves can be applied to a wound to bring down swelling.

Tansy: A strong-smelling plant with round yellow flowers. Good for curing coughs, but must be eaten in small doses.

Thyme: The herb can be eaten to calm anxiety and frayed nerves.

Watermint: A leafy green plant found in streams or damp earth. Usually chewed into a pulp and then fed to a cat suffering bellyache.

Wild Garlic: Rolling in a patch of wild garlic can prevent infection, especially from dangerous wounds like rat bites.

Yarrow: A flowering plant whose leaves can be made into a poultice and applied to wounds or scratches to expel poison.

Predators


Foxes: Russet-red fur, bushy tails, sharp teeth, and pointed noses. Look like big dogs. Live in dens, often in sandy ground hidden by undergrowth. Live alone or with cubs. Mean, suspicious, and hostile, they don’t eat cats, but they will kill for pleasure and not just for prey. They hunt mostly at night and have a strong and unpleasant smell.

Badgers: Large, with short black fur and a white stripe down their long, pointed muzzles. Small, beady eyes, powerful shoulders, and sharp claws. Live in either caves or sets, which are tunnels underground, bushes, or tree roots. Live alone or with their kits and have a very distinctive smell. Badgers sometimes prey on young cat kits. Can trample their victims with enormous paws or deliver a deadly bite. Have tremendously powerful jaws that make it nearly impossible to escape their grip.

Dogs: Size varies from that of a kit to a pony. Fur can be long or short, white, brown, black, gray, or a mix. Can have pointy or flat noses, droopy or sharp ears. Make loud, angry noises and love chasing cats. Live mostly in Twoleg nests or barns. Wild dogs might sleep anywhere; one pack in recent clan history made their home in the caves below Snakerocks. Loud, fast, and sharp-toothed. Many dogs seem to be devoted to their Twolegs and are seen only in Twoleg company. There is a theory that most dogs are too dim-witted to be truly dangerous. Packs of dogs are always to be feared.

Birds of Prey: Winged predators with hooked beaks and sharp, curved talons, these include hawks, eagles, and owls. Nest in hollows of trees, or on the ledges of cliffs. Extremely sharp vision for spotting prey from a distance. Hawks and eagles are daytime hunters; owls hunt at night. They swoop down from the sky to carry off prey, which includes kits.

Large Farm Animals: Four-legged farm creatures. Horses are tall and swift with flowing manes and tails and giant, pounding hooves. Sheep look like fluffy white clouds dotted across a green field. Cows can be black and white or brown, and their hooves are to be avoided. Large fenced fields and sometimes hay-filled barns. Mostly harmless. However, take caution passing through their fields. A galloping horse or stampeding herd of cows would trample a cat without noticing.

Rats: Brown-furred and beady-eyed rodents with long, naked tails and sharp front teeth. Not much bigger than kits. Live in garbage dumps like Carrionplace in ShadowClan territory or anywhere they cab scavenge Twoleg food. Live and travel in packs. Individually they pose no threat to cats, but their numbers are often overwhelming, and bites can cause infection. A single infected rat can contaminate an entire clan.

Twolegs: Tall, smooth-skinned creatures with some fur on their heads. Walk on two legs. Live in large, boxy nests with hard roods and floors, often surrounded by tidy gardens and fences. Also known as Nofurs or Upwalkers. Twolegs ride around in monsters and seem to like dogs. They are to be avoided if possible, as they are capable of doing something unpredictable at any moment, such as tearing down a tree starting a fire, or locking up a cat for no reason.

Prey


Frogs
Frogs are leathery gray-green or gray-brown amphibians with powerful hind legs and a small brown patch by each eye. They are two to three kittensteps (inches) long and covered in leathery skin. They do not walk, but jump in most circumstances. Frogs are found near ponds, pools and swamps.
Specie(s): Rana Temporaria

Toads
Toads are greenish-brown amphibians with thick legs and warty skin. They are three to five kittensteps (inches) long and possess a heavy rounded shape. Unlike frogs they will walk rather than jump. Toads favor damp woodland areas for their homes.
Specie(s): Bufo Bufo

Newts
Newts are amphibians with four equal-length legs (unlike frogs and toads) that possess a rudder-like tail for better swimming. They have leathery green or brown skin, sometimes with red markings. Some even have a frill that runs down the spine. They vary greatly in size, ranging from two to six kittensteps (inches). Newts favor swampy areas near ponds when making their homes.
Specie(s): Triturus Helveticus, Triturus Vulgaris, and Triturus cristatus

Hedgehogs
Hedgehogs, round and spiny beasts with small stumpy tails are Britain's only spiny animal. These creatures do not see well, but have an exceptional sense of smell in addition to the ability to roll into a protective ball. Hedgehogs nest on forest edges and in hedgerows, but forage in open areas.
Specie(s): Erinaceus Europaeus

Moles
Moles are amongst the most common creatures in Britain. They have velvety black fur, spade-like paws, and tiny eyes. While they do not see well they are rarely sighted above ground, making them difficult for cats to kill. Moles can be found anywhere that earthworms are.
Specie(s): Talpa Europaea

Shrews
Shrews are small rodent-like creatures with grey to brown fur, long noses, small eyes and somewhat rounded bodies. They live in woodland areas or near hedgerows, while keeping most of their activity to the night, dusk, or dawn.

Water Shrews
Water Shrews are large shrews who are well adapted to life in and on the edge of water. They have small ears, a waterproof coat and tail with a line of stiff fur that acts as a rudder. They are active mainly at night, usually just before dawn. They live in burrows at the edge of unpolluted flowing water.
Specie(s): Neomys Fodiens

Rabbits
Rabbits are compact, apprentice sized animals with long legs, oval shaped heads, and long ears. Their fur is typically brown with ruddy streaks, the underside of the animal normally being paler than the topside. Their fur is thick and soft, but not waterproof. Rabbits live in burrows they dig in soil that is soft enough. They prefer the mouths of these burrows to be located in areas with a lot of cover.
Specie(s): Oryctolagus Cuniculus

Hares
Hares match cats in size, with long legs and ears similar to a rabbit. Their fur is most commonly an orange shade of brown. They live in shallow scrapes in the ground at the bases of brush and briar. They are most active at dusk and dawn, favoring the cover of dark for their foraging efforts.
Specie(s): Lepus Europaeus

Adders
Adders are snakes with long dark-colored bodies that are marked with indented zig-zag stripes. Their head also possess a V or X shaped light colored marking. The bite of the adder is very dangerous, being venomous. Adders favor areas of dense woodland with sunny areas suitable for warming themselves.
Specie(s): Vipera Berus

Snakes
Snakes are long thin animals with mottled skin in shades of dark and light brown that ranges from yellowy to red. In appearance most snakes are very similar to Adders, and in some cases it can be difficult to tell the difference. They will even behave as adders do in an attempt to frighten potential predators. Snakes favor homes near bodies of water, with good locations to both hunting rodents and sunning themselves.
Specie(s): Coronella Austriaca & Natrix Natrix

Lizards
Lizards are small brown reptiles with mottled, leathery skin and low slung bodies. Their tails are long and whip-like, and their legs stick out of the sides of their bodies rather than behind under them. Lizards live in many area, but favor those with ground cover and moisture that attracts the insects they eat.
Specie(s): Lacerta Vivipara

Squirrels
Squirrels are kitten-sized rodents with long, fluffy tails and clever paws. The majority of squirrels are gray, though the occasional red might be seen. They are agile and can climb trees without trouble. They favor dawn and dusk as their foraging times, and are common in woodland areas.
Specie(s): Sciurus Culgaris and Sciurus Carolinensis

Voles
Voles are very small brown rodents with mid-length tails and small ears. All voles are nimble, though only some species of them are good climbers. They live in grassy fields, scrublands, woodlands and gardens with enough cover for them to be comfortable.
Specie(s): Clethrionomys Glareolus and Microtus Agrestis

Water Voles
Water voles are small rodents with short noses, tails and dense brown fur. They are most active during daylight hours and prefer to make their homes near slow moving water. When disturbed they will dive into the water for safety with a distinctive 'plop'.
Specie(s): Arvicola Terrestris

Mice
Mice are small brown rodents with long naked tails, whiskers, large ears and prominent dark eyes. All species are active primarily in during the night. They are agile climbers and have very sensitive hearing. They prefer to live in places with ground-cover and a steady supply of nuts and seeds for them to eat.
Specie(s): Apodemus Sylvaticus, Micromys Minutus, and Mus Musculus

Dormice
Dormice are round mice with a fur-covered tail. They have golden brown fur and large black eyes. Because they hibernate any time food is scarce, they are not seen as frequently as the more common mice. They eat fruit, flowers and other high-energy food, and can be found anywhere these things are abundant.
Specie(s): Muscardinus Avellanarius

Rats
Rats are kitten-sized rodents with long bald tails and fur that ranges from gray-brown through black. Rats can swim and climb with great agility, and are powerful jumpers. They are intelligent, and live in colonies called mischiefs. They are also aggressive and willing to fight back when attacked. In the world of Warriors, they live at carrionplace, and are known to carry disease and give infection-prone bites.

Fighting Techniques


One of the most important skills a mentor must teach an apprentice is how to fight, Warriors are often called upon to defend the borders or protect the Clan from attack, whether by enemy Clans or predators like badgers and foxes. Even medicine cats must learn enough fighting technique to be useful in battle.

Back Kick: Explosive surprise move to catch opponent from behind. Judge opponent’s distance from you carefully; then lash out with your back legs, taking your weight onto your front paws.

Belly Rake: A fight-stopper. Slice with unsheathed claws across the soft flesh of opponent’s belly. If you’re pinned down, the belly rake quickly puts you back in control.

Front Paw Blow: Frontal attack. Bring your front paw down hard on your opponent’s head. Claws sheathed.

Front Paw Strike: Frontal attack. Slice downward with your front paw at the body or face of your opponent. Claws unsheathed.

Killing Bite: A deadly blow to the back of the neck. Quick and silent and sometimes dishonorable. Used only as a last resort.

Leap-and-Hold: Ideal for a small cat facing a large opponent. Spring onto opponents back and grip with unsheathed claws. Now you are beyond the range of your opponent’s paws and in position to inflict severe body wounds. A group of apprentices can defeat a large and dangerous warrior this way. Watch for the drop-and-roll countermove, and try to jump free before you get squashed.

Partner Fighting: Warriors who have been trained and fought together will often instinctively fall into a paired defensive position, each protecting the other’s back while fending off an opponent on either side. Slashing, clawing, and leaping together, battle pairs can be a whirlwind of danger for attackers.

Play Dead: Effective in a tight situation, such as when you are pinned. Stop struggling and go limp. When your opponent relaxes his grip, thinking you are defeated, push yourself up explosively. This will throw off an unwary opponent and put you in an attacking position.

Scruff Shake: Secure a strong teeth grip in the scruff of your opponent’s neck; then shake violently until he or she is too rattled to fight back. Most effective against rats, which are small enough to throw. A strong throw will stun or kill them.

Teeth Grip: Target your opponent’s extremities=the legs, tail, scruff, or ears- and sink your teeth and hold. This move is similar to the leap-and-hold except your claws remain free to fight.

Upright Lock: Final, crushing move on already weakened opponent. Rear up on back legs and bring full weight down on opponent. If opponent does same, wrestle and flip him under you. This move makes you vulnerable to the belly rake, so requires great strength and speed.
