When it comes to yaoi, or even simple shounen ai, what's your prefered medium? Writing? Comics? Animated? That rare form of fangirl who prefers real porn?

Personally, I prefer fanfiction (or the occasional published novel) and doujinshi. I recently watched Sensitive Pornograph- an animated series that is rather widely regarded as a great yaoi series in the circles I travel in- and could not stop laughing. It was so ridiculous.

At another point in my summer vacation, a friend showed me a clip from an anime series she watches (I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called) from an episode where one of the female characters kept getting lost in yaoi daydreams. Seeing the various situation stereotypes in doujinshi and fanfics animated made me almost die laughing. It was so bad!

So yeah, which do you prefer? Why? Inquiring minds wish to know!

When I first got into yaoi, it was through manga and a little bit of anime, though I've always preferred graphic novels over animation. Then I got into fanfiction in a big way, which led me to finding out about more BL series (or just plain slashy series, like Ace Attorney!), and I started reading a wider variety of comics and webcomics and whatnot.

I heard about the TV series Torchwood from a friend of mine one day, though, and watched a few episodes on the internet ... which led me to watch the wonderful movie No Night is Too Long on Youtube ... which led me to read Brokeback Mountain, then watch it at a friend's house ... which led me to watch numerous other gay-themed films that I now adore. So yeah, my tastes in medium changed pretty quickly. There's just something about real life actors portraying the emotions, and having it be that much more relatable than flat images with huge sparkly eyes on a little page where you have to read their words instead of hear them. But maybe I'm just biased since I do theatre in real life and appreciate good acting |D

Not to say that I don't still read shounen-ai comics and read fanfiction, because I still do~! ESPECIALLY fanfics. I just like movies best.

I prefer in comic or Doujinshi form
because that art is usually better that way and plus I can stare at the same picture for awhile XD

Animated it fun too but they usually looks kinda ugly =_=;;

@Tomqueen: I get what you mean about seeing real people portraying emotions, though the kind that you listed aren't my cup of tea. I don't know why, but I get really uncomfortable whenever I see romance in a more realistic form, even if I can tell myself "They're just actors, I'm not really peeking in on someone's private time." 's freaking weird.

Oh I understand! I used to feel super-shy watching them, too, so I stuck to manga for a long time. Actually, I only watched a couple episodes of Torchwood and the first twenty minutes of No Night and held off for a while. Then I managed to get through Brokeback because I wanted to see it reallyreally bad, and it was so lovely that the awkwardness just went poof. But like I said, maybe I got used to it faster because I get the whole acting thing. @ @

Not your cup of tea~? What is your cup of tea, then? : D

@Omg Its MasterMe: haha yeah, anime art styles aren't always the prettiest.

For heavy yaoi, I prefer manga and drama cds when manga is just not enough. Fanfiction satisfies my need for non-canon pairs, while light yaoi is good in animated form, and j-pop guys are good for my need for real guy love. o.o;
I'm not interested in animated hard yaoi. I could hardly get through Sensitive Pornograph without blushing or laughing. D: The most of a sex scene shown that I can stand was probably the ones from Junjou Romantica. Even Papa to Kiss in the Dark was a bit much for me. D:
And I find it sexier when sex scenes are drawn, rather than animated. I'm not sure why.
Also, I'm in love with drama cds at the moment (SuzuKen ~ Sakupyon ~ JunJun ~ <3), so if there are drama cds that compliment the manga, I always read it while listening to those. n_n;
And, about the j-pop comment, anyone who knows about Arashi, Ohmiya SK, Akame, etc. will understand.

Mmmm, honestly I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned crazy scene. Epiphany (Sweeney Todd) when it's done by George Hearn instead of Depp? So amazing. I long to see a production of Macbeth someday, just for Lady Macbeth. Sad scenes can be a lot of fun too, but most love scenes give me cavities.

@Oral: Two words for you- Johnny's Entertainment.

I like yaoi only in manga's. I tried watching it in anime and, well, just couldn't. I like reading fanfiction, not slash, and the occasional hardcore doujinshi's (like the gravitation ones).

@ Jaaku-san: You forgot about D-Boys, yo. But they're an acting agency, though. xP

Manga, anime, fanfiction, it's all good.
Though I must say, I do prefer animated Yaoi.
Seeing everything in action just makes it even more sexy for me <3
