When I first got into yaoi, it was through manga and a little bit of anime, though I've always preferred graphic novels over animation. Then I got into fanfiction in a big way, which led me to finding out about more BL series (or just plain slashy series, like Ace Attorney!), and I started reading a wider variety of comics and webcomics and whatnot.
I heard about the TV series Torchwood from a friend of mine one day, though, and watched a few episodes on the internet ... which led me to watch the wonderful movie No Night is Too Long on Youtube ... which led me to read Brokeback Mountain, then watch it at a friend's house ... which led me to watch numerous other gay-themed films that I now adore. So yeah, my tastes in medium changed pretty quickly. There's just something about real life actors portraying the emotions, and having it be that much more relatable than flat images with huge sparkly eyes on a little page where you have to read their words instead of hear them. But maybe I'm just biased since I do theatre in real life and appreciate good acting |D
Not to say that I don't still read shounen-ai comics and read fanfiction, because I still do~! ESPECIALLY fanfics. I just like movies best.

For heavy yaoi, I prefer manga and drama cds when manga is just not enough. Fanfiction satisfies my need for non-canon pairs, while light yaoi is good in animated form, and j-pop guys are good for my need for real guy love. o.o; I'm not interested in animated hard yaoi. I could hardly get through Sensitive Pornograph without blushing or laughing. D: The most of a sex scene shown that I can stand was probably the ones from Junjou Romantica. Even Papa to Kiss in the Dark was a bit much for me. D: And I find it sexier when sex scenes are drawn, rather than animated. I'm not sure why. Also, I'm in love with drama cds at the moment (SuzuKen ~ Sakupyon ~ JunJun ~ <3), so if there are drama cds that compliment the manga, I always read it while listening to those. n_n; And, about the j-pop comment, anyone who knows about Arashi, Ohmiya SK, Akame, etc. will understand.
