Can I lose to a legendary and battle it later?

I really want to hurry up and get the National Dex on pokemon Platinum, but I still need to get Azelf and Uxie's data. I want to catch them later, but I need their data. Is there any way I can do this?
Btw, I already beat the elite 4 once.

I think you can. I did once I think. Just google it just to make sure.

EDIT: Just lose to it. That is how I got the data. Then I went back after losing and caught them. Just bring some low level Pokemon and let it beat you.

Yeah, I know with losing it is sort-of a pride thing...but hey. It works for ya.

I think there might be another way to get their data. I don't know it, but....I have the national Dex and I still havn't caught all of them....I think....

anyone know how to skate across the ice and get regigigas in snowpoint temple? is it just a case of keep trying or is there strategy?? not sure if this is the right part of the forum btw...sorry if its not and i will try and be more active! 3nodding
