Alright, we all know Invictus has hoarded a lovely amount for our expenditure in the Guild funds. I would like to ask him to dip into this in order to provide us with a specialist subforum for mainly British Politics, and really any politics (for all others in the guild) from over the world that might be of interest.

We fought against the sheer weight of American threads about George Bush in the main Politics forum in ED, yet we never succeeded in gaining a thread there. Well, I say we create our own haven here. That would mean we could respond to the threads before they get buried, as they do in ED razz .

My thinking, is that it would also conglomerate the amount of threads on politics into one area in the Guild; therefore cleaning the Guild up a little.

So, what do you people think?

I am prepared to donate around 1000g for this endeavour.

I say yes, but I would like you to keep in mind that America DOES effect other people in the world despite what anyone might say, so we shouldn't completely exclude them. Although, 02943759734574698457065896874397605768276340957976097309684759076094875968683749658374965873 Bush threads is a bit much even for my own tastes. Instead of a British politics subforum, I think that instead it should be a world politics forum.

Indeed, World Politics sounds good.
I'm not opposed to something like that. Especially if it promotes discussion.

Hm, I'm alright if that is the wish of the GBG members. Though my only concern is that by removing the Political threads from the main forum me might risk losing the atmosphere of "Extended Discussion" (albeit a little bit louche and a bit anarchic, like a dusty old colonel of cavalry, in a Parisian brothel, drinking absinthe from a glass, whilst discussing the pressing issues of the day with a struck-off Oxford don, both eating yoghurt) that gives this Guild a higher-minded atmosphere than the UK Guild and a tradition in the old ExED British Stereotypes thread.

Still, if you guys think that's not a factor, or that it's a factor outweighed by the benefits brought by a politics subforum, then I shall go ahead and form it.

I think that the regulars of this guild are going to continue to make sure that the "higher minded amostphere" is going to stay as such. I don't think that you have to really have politics in the main guild forum in order to keep it like that because it's up to the members as well as the crew to keep it that way. Look at the ED: Politics forum, it's started to lose that "higher minded atmostphere" even since I've been here. (I have been paying attention to that forum and have even posted there on occasion.) If we continue to screen members like we have been doing, then I don't see us losing that and if it does happen... Well, I'll at least I'll make sure to oust anyone who starts to act stupid, because I'm not afraid to offend anyone. wink At any rate, I believe it's a good idea. Perhaps we can actually start some more discussion on politics. That's what I'd like to see, and I believe that the sub-forum will encourage it. Where as keeping them afloat in the main forum makes it so that people lose track of the thread.

Invictus, yes it be a factor. But it is a comparitavly small one compared with the benifits a Pol sub would bring. i would feel much more free to create topics on certain subjects without really clogging up the forum as that is what would be the meaning of the pol sub. that is really one of the things that keeps me from making topics on things in here.. the posibilty of 'spaming' the main forum with threads. the only concern i would have would be whether people would venture into it.

I'll leave the action itself for a week or so, some of our members are only rarely on and so I'd like as fully representative a poll as possible before I spend your collective gold on a World Politics subforum.

If there is one I will have to assume the role of being the Tony Blair fanboy because someone has to defend the guy. XD

I don't really understand how anyone could defend him, but you are entitled to a view. I mean, if 40% of voters are voting Labour at the moment, they must be doing something right. xd

Seems a strongish consensus for the establishment of a politics subforum.

Is 'World Politics' the chosen name for it?
