Okay, I've not seen the movie.
But I've seen a bit of it through AMVs and stuff like that.
So I know Heidrich dies. And he coughs blood. And its sad.
But what's wrong with him, exactly? Does anyone know the actual disease?

hes coughing up blood, so at the time period that the movie is placed in leaves us to the scientific conclusion that he is suffering from tuberculosis.
It was actually an epidemic during that time although not only just in germany but also the u.s. and germanies surrounding countries..

Although it could easily be confused with whooping cough as well and even misdiagnosed..
