From my window I can see an apple tree. Crimson orbs have tarried too long and are dusted with winter's robe are worshiped by devout blackbirds.

Hogswatchnight is near!

Since pagans have no unified midwinter holiday- I propose this:

The guild celebrate Hogswatch!

I think Blood on the Snow is something we can all get behind. wink

The celebration to be in this thread, and will include a Secret Gift Exchange, Recipe Collection, and midwinter tales.

If folks would share their favorite recipe served at this time of year, their favorite memory of this season growing up and your favorite holiday tradition- I'll add it to the collection on the front page.

There will also be a Mid Winter Avatar Contest!

Also- folks who wish to carol through the towns or participate in other such events are welcome to coordinate within the thread.

Secret Gift Exchange

Submit your name within the thread and I will collect the list and post it here.
I will PM you with a name of a person.

I don't want to set a limit on what should be gifted- I think the spirit of the season will be enough of a guide.

This means people should update their wishlists. wink

She is the embodiment of winter. Her skirt dusts the ground with snow. Through her a cold wind blows and chills the hearts of men. Her icy green gaze frosts over the hardiest of plants making them sleep deep through the winter. She is winter in all of its cold glory.

And a Merry Hogswatch to you!!!

I'm in for the gift exchange. biggrin

I got to watch Hogfather on TV the other night. I made the whole family watch with me. xd

As far as favorite traditions for this time of year, when I was younger I used to really love getting together with the whole family. We didn't get to see each other all that much throughout the year, so it was nice to see everyone. I used to get up at the crack of dawn to check out all my presents on Christmas, and of course tried to wait patiently until it was a somewhat reasonable hour to wake everyone else up.

Now for the most part, I'd be perfectly happy to avoid Christmas. I am so fed up with the whole commercialism associated with it. It probably wouldn't be so bad if we weren't broke all the time, but I hate that my kids expect gifts (and to be fair they do deserve some)- but I can't afford to get them any. I am really trying to move away from celebrating Christmas at all, and for the first time this year we (as a family) are going to celebrate Yule. Hopefully it will be the start of a new family tradition. We are going to stay up all night, probably have a small bonfire for awhile and drink cocoa and toast some marshmallows, then greet the sun when it rises.

As to recipes...I am not much of a cook. I'll have to pick hubby's brain for something good. (that didn't sound right, did it blaugh )

Merry Hogswatch! XD

I'm in favour. cool

I'd be more in favour if I'd actually seen the movie, but..

Anyway, I've got some gaia gold I can burn, so feel free to count me in!

.. I'll.. have to update my wishlist though, I guess. gonk

.. Which will have to wait. 8D I'm off for two, three days now for a combination of work and relaxation, but I think I'll be back come Saturday at the latest.

Might have internet before that, but we'll see. XD;

Ciao! 8D

I do wish y'all the best of Hogswatch.
For my part, I have my Christmas.
Then again, I am technically a non-abrahamic Christian. wink

I am more than happy to help celebrate tho. 3nodding

in!

muwhahahaha!

now how on earth can i get my hair like her's....mmmaaayyyrrrhhhh!

oddly, my favoritest winter memory is last year - i was severely depressed because it was the first winter without my ex of 2 1/2 years. i popped a bottle of Ravensgrove wine i had gotten for Yule and proceeded to drink it all for myself (Christmas Eve btw).

a friend called, i answered, and she got the story out of me, how i really didn't want to celebrate too much. and how happily drunk i was getting.

she convinced her husband and roommate to hop in the car, they drove to my house, kidnapped me (there was a comment i made while amazingly inebriated that had the whole car flooded with laughter, but for the life of any of us, we can't remember what it was) and made me spend the night at their house and Christmas the next morning with them. i had my own stocking and it was bursting.

lesson learned: whole bottles of wine lead to warm and fuzzies for at least 24 hours, 4laugh

We have a channel called ION (didn't even know I had it). I was flipping though the other night and caught it right at the beginning. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I've never actually read any of Pratchett's books, redface though I've known about him for years. I acutally used to have the Discworld game on my PC (way back in the day). I feel like I've been missing something. gonk

By the way....Amazon.com has Hogfather for $9.99
