The title pretty much says it all. New to the guild. Another Gaia friend recommended the guild to me smile Figured I'd drop in, say "Hello" and what such.
Um, I'm Kitty, but I don't expect you to remember that. You can just call me Jackie or Aurora. Whatever. Doesn't matter.
I'm 23, married to a wonderful guy who servers in the military. He's been in for just barely over 4 years. We've been married for 4 years as of June 18th, and on December 15th we will share 6 years together! Yes, I married young. No kids. Just three furr babies. My ferret Chewie *points to siggy* My golden retriever/lab mix Sadie, and tiny robo hamster Johnny 5.
I've been active on Gaia since 04. I left for 7 months earlier this year. I figured I wouldnt be back because we were busy, so I gave everything away. (I guarentee that wont happen again! >.<) Recently I returned, and started fresh.
Uh, I'm from Washington State...that's about it. I'm pretty boring for the most part. I kinda do my own thing, read a lot, listen to music, keep to myself. As a military wife, online is pretty much my default way of socializing

You know, I've wanted a ferret since I was a kid, but my mom always told me that they stink. True?

LOL, they are spazzes! Mine is quite the menace, but his cuteness makes up for it. He's a nipper, but always in play. And yes, when we bought him, he was litter trained. However, he tends to be a brat and tip the litter over. And it's so expensive, I just removed the litter box because I was tired of him dumping it out everyday. He always goes potty in the same corner though. So I just try to pick it up so it doesn't smell up the house. I don't think it's the ferrets the smell, it's their poop!
I'm thinking about buying another one because I feel bad that I took him from his little friends. He's about 6 months now. He was 4 months when we got him.
I live in Federal Way. Not far from Fort Lewis, Seattle, Tacoma and Renton. smile
Edit: And yes, naturally ferrets have a musky odor. But it's not offensive and not as bad as people credit it to be. Especially if you get them fixed. That helps. I try to bathe mine once a month. I also use bedding that kinda helps with that. Of course he's just a baby. As they get older the smell gets stronger But it's really NOT that bad. Like I said above, it's their POOP that smells so yucky. So if you keep their cage clean, keep they poop cleaned up, and bathe them once a month, they actually don't smell bad. But you aren't really supposed to bathe them more than once a month. If you do their smelly glands work harder. Or something of the sort lol

I was told no more then once a month because their skin will dry out. Ferrets are kinda oiley naturally. Except when their winter fur comes in- then they are fluff balls! If they're bought from a pet store, they're about 95% likely to be de-scented and neutered. This is because females can bleed to death if not breed, and for the stench. It is pretty much their poop, and the even make a liquid you can put in your water that makes that smell less.

Yes that too. It does dry out their skin. I gave mine a bath today because he was itching a lot. So I wanted to make sure he was clean and didnt have any fleas. However, I'll probably give him one again the first week of December
I bought mine from Petco.

I can never differentiate Petco from Petsmart. Once I even went to the other one when I had an interview to be a groomer eek I will say that ferrets are happier in pairs. When I just had Luke, my albino, he HATED being alone and would rip at his cage. So we got Scrat, my fat little caramel one, and now they can amuse each other when I can't let them out. Luke also hates squeak toys with a passion. He never bites, but if you squeak something- you'd better be wearing armor.

That's hilarious! Mine likes just about anything so far. Yesterday I gave him a paper bag and I'm telling you, he was in heaven! He played around inside of it, jumped on it, attacked it, and everything else. I also gave him a sparkley golden lid...again...he loved it. They are so easily amused. We bought him one of those two story cube play centers for cats. He absolutely goes nuts with that thing.
And yea, ferrets are better in pairs like you said. They require a lot of attention and play time. Just like the lady said, it's like taking care of a 2 year old all the time. They always want to play and be the center of attention. Unless they are asleep. But mine is a lighter sleeper than what the Petco claimed most ferrets to be. She said they sleep pretty deep. But Chewie...if he hears us enter the room, he snaps out of sleep so fast...and he's ready to play lol.
And Suede, that dog is adorable!

Hmm...I've never seen white German Shepherds. I love Corgis, too. I also like Border Collies and Huskies.

There have always been white shepherds, back to the first few. It's just when Hitler came into power he deemed the color 'unpure' and kicked them out of the registry. They can be registered now, but not shown in AKC showmanship classes.
I also love Huskies and of course my Gordon Setters, but both breeds are way too active for the possible apartment living in my future.
