Moshi Moshi: hello

This term's used on the phone. When answering the phone, this would be the first thing you would say.

im learning so much!

Instead of 'shi' for 4, it's better to use 'yon', no?

Iro (Colours):
Aka (Red)
Ao (Blue)
Midori (Green)
Murasaki (Purple)
Momoiro (Pink)
Kuro/Kuroi (Black)
Shiro (White)
Kiiro (Yellow)

Questions that seems rather handy to know:

O genki desu ka? (How are you?)
which you could reply to with:
Hai, genki desu. Anata wa? (I'm good. And you?)
or if you're just feeling okay - mama genki desu.
Alternatively, if you feel like crap - Iie, genki jenai desu.

If you're asking a group of people how they are: Mina-san (everyone), o genki desu ka?

Toire wa doko desu ka? (Where is the toilet?)

If your Japanese isn't so good at this point, it might be good to add:
Nihongo o hanasemasen. (I don't speak Japanese)
Nihongo wa amari yoku wakarimasen. (I don't understand Japanese very well)
Watashi wa Nihongo ga amari jouzu jenai desu. (I'm not good at Japanese)
and
Eigo ga dekimasu ka? (Do you speak English?)
etc...

Ooh, and:
Byoki desu. (I'm sick)

Direction words:
Hidari (left)
Migi (right)
Massugu (straight ahead)
Tonari (next to)

To be polite:

Hontouni arigatou gozaimasu (Thank you very much)
Arigatou (Informal thankyou)
Doitashimashite (You’re welcome)
Sumimasen / Shitsurei shimasu (Excuse me)
Hontouni gomennasai (I'm really sorry)
Gomen / Gomenne / Gomennasai (I'm sorry)
Chotto matte kudasai (Please wait a moment)
Moo ichido yutte kudasai (Please say it again)
Yukkuri hanashite kudasai (Please speak slowly)

And... that's all I can remember right now. Lol. (The question marks at the end of the Japanese questions are kind of superfluous, as the 'ka' is effectively the question mark in Japanese)

PostPosted: Sat Aug 02, 2008 2:22 am
Ha, I used to be a bit of Japanese geek... I studied it from the start of primary school right up until I graduated high school.
