Metallers
and
Hip Hopers
Have in common?
Well in my opinion... idiocy, in others Martyrdom.
So why idiocy... well its best demonstrated in this way, the gay pride chant of:
We're here, we're queer, get used to it.
Now heres my retort everytime I hear it:
No one would care if you stopped drawing attention to yourselves.
And thats just it, those lifestyles and cultures listed above... they draw attention to themselves, when if they toned down the extremist elements then there would be less of an issue, I'm not saying all the hatred is brought on by themselves, but a good portion of it is. I'm also not trying to stifle creativity, individualism or independant thought, but there is a time and a place for certain things and common sense needs to be applied, not this sense of righteous indignation.. because lets be honest here... how many people here have wanted to hit someone from the above categories, wether it be someone insisting Slipknot is goth, Spikes are Metal, 50 cent is the best rapper ever or simply for being a screaming queen? I bet theres a very slim minority if we're honest with ourselves about this. So take a long hard think and ask yourself, are people in the extremes really martyrs or just idiots who crave attention?

A large portion of humanity in general are idiots.
If you're going to be on the extreme you have to be ready for what the world throws at you for it. Just brush it off and go on with your life; you know what you've gotten yourself "into." The people that have the "we're here to stay" rallies just piss me off. By drawing attention to yourselves you’ll just put yourselves on the spot light for more hate and negative attention, not to mention you’ll be annoying thousands of people who wouldn’t have hated you if you had just kept your mouth shut and gone on with life. If their lifestyle is extreme, who cares? If their opinions are extreme and they go out there and broadcast it everywhere, then people care. If their part of one of the above cultures, it can be even worse. Now you’re adding this image to the cultures and making everyone it in look potentially bad!
I think that the people who are truly part of the extreme know what they’re in for and just brush it off and deal with it. The other people in the extreme are just illogical idiots who wonder why everyone hates them and wonder why they have all these stereotypes biting them in the arse. They have their opinions, good, making a huge deal of yourself and trying to force people into your beliefs just pisses everyone off. No one would care about you or make a big about you and your opinions if you just shut up and do it in a civilized, logical, informed, calm way. It really isn’t fair because these people make it bad for the rest.

For gaining acceptance, I think a bit of public action can help. For example, I think the gay and lesbian rights movements helped to stimulate progressive attitudes towards people who have different sexual preferences.
Still, I think that unwarranted self-importance of people - simply by being in such a group - tend to drag the respectability down. Also, it seems like too much spotlight can lead to potentially being marketed to hell later on (like the peace symbol, the anarchy symbol, the rainbow flag, and so on).
