In the finer words of my favorite Asatru Norse Deathmetal fan- "******** ENYA!" ~ahems~

Sorry.

So- the concept is pretty simple. A lot of people will put a song on to change their mood. A lot of people will use music in ritual.

Drumming and the like is all well and good- but what about some pop-music?

When my mother hooked up with my step father who worked at a radio station, he drastically influenced my music tastes (when they first got together, none of my music was in English).

Do you use pop-music in magic?

Do you think to do so would be fluffy? (that question isn't just loaded, it's double barreled!) ninja

If you do- how about an example?

I don't so magic, so I'll talk about misc. ritual, meditation etc.

I don't like pop music that much sweatdrop , and so I don't. I'm a bit of a rivet head. xD
I like to listen to industrial music whilst meditating sometimes, it knocks the thoughts out of your head.

I've been taking meditation classes--my college has them free every Friday afternoon--and they tell us we're supposed to have silence for meditation.

I more or less ignore them. My mp3 player goes with me to the sessions, and I listen to music when I'm in my room at all times. Usually I'll listen to classical music, but I've been known to meditate to Darren Hayes. People think I'm nuts. sweatdrop

Most of my applications of pop-music focus on "directing" or "grounding" extra emotional energy in useful ways.

This is my favorite for turning out depression.

This one helps with spring fever when followed up with this one.

Warning (and OH GODS SHOULD THIS BE IN BRIGHT RED TEXT)
I have repeatedly offended people by linking to my taste in music. I have this uncanny knack for producing the song which will have the most profound effect possible on them.

On depression
For ctharsis, as opposed to counter patterning, I like
this one, this one, this one, this one

For counter patterning
this one, this one, this one

See, this post could take me a while to do.

Forgot this counter patterning one

As a side tangent, though a related one,
I cannot express, quite enough, how strongly this song and this song effected me

For the general feel good songs, I have in my list there is
this, this, this..... in fact I could continue listing JoCo for ages (all but two if memory serves).

For when I'm feeling solitary, I have

This one comes with special explicit warning:
This one is me. This song is almost the best lyrical musical expression of Wing there is. I have written two songs which, together, provide better, but for another person's music, this is it.

Whatever gets you there gets you there, that's my policy. xd

For me, sometimes it's airy female vocals (which hollywood seems to have adopted as its dramatic movie soundtrack ever since Gladiator.. grr), sometimes it's insane techno, sometimes it's weird experimental stuff, and... sometimes it's just regular mainstream music that hits the right note at the right time.

Right now I'm stuck on Lisa Gerrard's "Space Weaver." (Youtube fanvid)

I'll echo patch here. I'm a rivethead as well, so generally I make it Feindflug if I need music for some reason. They keep the vocal samples to a minimum and the beats are repetitive enough not to distract me.

Usually, I prefer absolute silence though.
